1.
BUT, the caveat is, Bass will always be No 1.
Indeed
2. Just as an aside, my Dad was offered the gig playing drums on the maiden voyage of the QE2. He turned it down and went back to college. What a missed opportunity, I'd love to do it
3. I played a bit of guitar the other day for the first time in months; really enjoyed it. I also play my mandolin & banjo periodically. I have little time for snobbery around other instruments - it's all good to me!
4. I don't know that I'd use the word dull as the bands obviously have some success. A lot of what I like is simple playing; root, fith with a few simple runs. Although there are a lot of funk & jazz fans on this site I like straight rock n roll and country so if anyone's looking for advanced harmonics on unusual frets, I think you might be in the wrong place!
5. It does seem a lot - I assume you have a big tour or recording to do? I was once in a band for 3.5yrs who only managed 7 rehearsals in the whole life of the band- the other extreme! My current lot are struggling to find a weekly slot due to shift work, distance etc. I see a weekly rehearsal as somewhat of a luxury
6. Thanks Jigster - They were custom made by my friend Rick Green who runs my local guitar shop. His brand is called Voodoo and he has made about 200. Dave Dee owned one and a couple of pro players have owned them but they are pretty exclusive. The Leather one was inspired by Waylon Jennings' guitar and I grew up watching The Dukes of Hazzard. The white one was inspired by Steve Cropper's guitar, the blue bound one was because I wanted a maple necked bound body and Fender only do that with rosewood; and the tremelo one Rick made and I liked it. It was the only one I didn't have designed to my specs. And Clarky, yes to both of those. I do own an Ampeg Classic USA head that is solid state and an Ampeg Classic USA 2x10 cab too.
7. Sounds like it needs a set up.
8. And my non-bass collection... including a mandolin, a 5 string banjo, two Epiphone acoustics with custom made twin leather pickguards and my custom made telecasters.
9. Great review - I take it you won't be selling it on in a few weeks?!
10. Welcome to Basschat
11. Plus one on the Squiers. It can sound a bit muddier should be ok. I wouldn't do it the other way around though.
12. It's taken me ages to find this thread! I just wanted to share a few images I snapped on my phone yesterday evening. My 1978 all original Mocha, My 1989 MIJ (with replaced CIJ neck) tobacco sunburst and my 2006 orange anniversary model. I also own the 51RI but didn't have a 4th stand to put it on! Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone thought the collection lacked maple (my 89 P-bass was maple until Wednesday).
13. Has anyone heard any updates on this book? Amazon have changed the status from available June to currently unavailable and I can't find anywhere else so much as mentioning it. Cheers.
14. I owned one for a while, traded it off ChrisWilliams666 & sold it on to Stevie who sold it on again. I thought it was a great value for money bass but moved it on for the same reason as Chris, I'm a Precision player and the active style wasn't me. It was a good well built bass and I reckon it must be on it's 5th Basschat owner by now. I don't understand it. Some basses do seem to hold their value (Epiphone T-birds for example) where as others don't seem to at all.
15. There are a couple on here who know more about 70s Fenders than me but I do know a bit and own a 1978 Precision. The 3 bolt neck isn't a problem but can be on older basses. Weight is the main thing to watch for on late 70s Fenders. If you are not sure get advice. The vintage market is different from spending £1200 on a new Fender. Potentially I wouldn't be put off with this bass but do your homework before committing to a sale. Best of luck
16. It is if it has the original parts that have been replaced with it as spares. 3 bolt neck though & have you checked it out? The weights can be ones to watch. An all original 78 Fender is just the wrong side of £1500, without going on much more than those photos I'd say that was priced fairly.
17.
Eagle eyed BB! Yep, my family is big into plastic figures
That's the way we roll in my house
18. I have seen sellers give partial numbers out which is what I think I'd do. I'd worry about it being cloned. Don't know why!?
19. Summer dates added to original post
20. I've always liked the look of cream pickup covers... ...also do I detect Paul Stanley on your mantelpiece?
21. The 70 was the smallest one. They ran from 1976-83 and the 100 was the middle one. They do crop up fairly often both here and on the Bay. Best of luck
22. er, back on Planet Earth I have a Fender Bassman 135 head. It's a 1978 model. These ran from 76-83 and came in 3 sizes, the 135w being the loudest. I'd quite like the matching cab but I hear the heads are good (a great one trick pony, if you like what they do great, if not they ain't for you) but I've heard the cabs are a bit weak. Anyhow, some pics to share...
23. Two of my Fenders have it, two don't. I like the string through option but there is little difference and I certainly wouldn't look to 1) have it added or 2) be put off by a bass that didn't have the option.
24. I don't think I want to know what the reserve is, scary stuff! Great piece of history though
25. Funnily enough OTPJ I thought of your bass when I snapped the photos. It's all original and what the photo doesn't show is the fairly horrendous lacquer cracks along the underside of the bass. The neck is from a 2004 CIJ so it really is looking a lot newer now. And Clarky, a hot sweaty night - I was spitting in that picture. How terribly uncultured of me. Turned out nice in the end though!
