1. I was after one but settled for a resonnator bass. I suspect it's all more of a pose than a truly great instrument or it would be more mainstream. That said I'd still love one! Might yet happen one day
2. Missing the buzz from live playing as we've been working on new stuff so the singer & I jumped on a train to Reading and did a couple of tunes at a local Open Mic night. I took the Resonator bass restrung with flats and it sounded good.
3. Now I remember these back in the day & they were Squier's budget range. £130 is a bit hopeful or am I missing something? http://www.josaka.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24895
4. Ah, ok. Do they sound like roundwound or are they closer to the nylons with the coating?
5.
Sorry to hijack, but how different do they sound and feel from stainless flats? I don't plan on changing strings too often, and I'd like to make a sensible choice.
I think they are similar certainly but flatwounds sound a little more fretless-y too me and trubass sound more upright-y. As I type that I'm immediately unhappy with my descriptions as they are close tonally but slightly different. I actually restrung my resonator bass with flatwounds last night and it sounds awesome. I'm a big fan of flats too. It's also to do with the feel on your fingertips that I like so I'm certainly not against flats, just wondering if this product exists and also curious as to why these strings tend to always be black.
6.
Is this what you mean? They do pink too. http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/18...ed_bass_strings
Gotta be worth a go, cheers
7. We've just pressed 500 copies of our last record & it worked out around £1500. A lot of bands are offering free downloads with the records to encourage sales. That can be set up for free on sites like this http://casehardin.bandcamp.com/releases It generates codes for free downloads. We paid extra for deluxe sleeves & that price included mastering again for vinyl format. If you can sell the albums it's worth it
8. Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim played bass in the Housemartins. Then you had the rockers like Rick Savage (Def Leppard) and Alec Jon Such (Bon Jovi). The Smiths had Andy Rourke & The Sisters of Mercy had Patricia Morrison replacing Craig Adams who went on to The Mission. Oh & one of the fools in Bros used to mince around with a bass but that's best forgotton.
9. I find this attitude is typical of most of the Denmark St shops but as mentioned comes down to some staff, not all. The last couple of times I've been in there I got polite & friendly responses. That said I haven't spent money in that road since 1995 when I bought a turkey, cleverly disguised as a bass guitar.
10. I have my late 80s bass still too & have just had to buy a new neck for it. A refinish does affect resale value but this is a point seriously undermined by owning a genuine keeper. I considered refinishing mine too & it may yet happen. Expect to pay around £300+ This seems to be the standard Basschat approved link http://www.simscustom.com/html/links.htm
11. Doesn't surprise me at all. My 2006 anniversary P-bass (USA) had the 62ri pup in it which I thought was a nice touch.
12. I would normally have said Stringbusters but GAK have undercut everyone at present. Don't know why
13. I have & do use flatwounds too. I have my oldest P-bass strung with them. I find that although very similar to nylons there is a slight difference. I have one strung with flats, one roundwound & then the nylons. Happy with the black ones but I'd like to see a different colour on the market. I do wonder why they were only made black, there must be a reason?
14. A GREAT string! At the moment with a £1 p&p charge GAK is your best bet http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/rotoso...115-long-s/3661 I wouldn't bother importing from the US as you may get customs charges too
15. Just wondering if they do and if so, does anyone have a link? I love the tone on mine, love the feel and I'm now used to the heavier gauge. However I'd think I'd prefer them to look more traditional on some of my basses. Ever the slave to image... can anyone help? I'd love some silver / grey ones.
16. I wanted a 4001 as it happens but owning one decent vintage bass I thought I'd opt for new and relic it myself slowly over the next 20yrs!
17. Looks great. I was considering getting a custom made effort myself but I think the boiler packing up has put the breaks on that idea for a while. I really like the idea of recreating an old favourite. Cheers for sharing
18. Welcome Mark & remember fashions do go full circle!
19. In terms of listening to music, I've never really connected with music that features bass prominently like funk. I did like stuff where the bass has little florishes that on repeated listening really got inside my head & in my mind made the song. It'd be those bits that I liked. Then in an early band a guitarist said I suited bass because I was 6'3" and I liked that comment at the time. Years later I went on to play guitar for 5yrs until recently. It took me probably 3yrs to stop feeling like a bass player masquerading as a guitarist. Just as I got to that point where I was happy with my lead playing I was offered a gig as a bass player and it just felt natural the moment I hit the first note.
20. And still the snooker runs on!
21. I suspect you'll struggle to get any money without small claims court judging by the attitude & lack of offer. We've all been there & it's not nice.
22. Kent Armstrong is ok but I wouldn't upgrade with them again personally - purely because I've found better since. It depends on your budget & what you are looking for tonally. I like classic vintage tones so the Seymour Duncan SPB-1 and the Antiquity II have boosted 2 of my P-basses. Both excellent. The Antiquities are not cheap though but you might grab yourself a second hand bargain on EBay. I also recently acquired a Wizard trad for my 60s P-bass which has a lovely woody tone.
23. Those strings sound great, I have them on my 62RI
24. First time, eh? GAS is like shin splints - once you get it, it never goes away
