1.
I'm the one playing bass (oddly enough)
Looks like the sort of band I wind up playing with. Is that a bouzouki on the right?
2. I guess it's the house band but I missed the start. A hippy girl with a cool as mustard surf green rosewood 'board Jazz bass. Anyone what model it is or is it a custom jobbie?
3. Stuff comes around soon enough. I always find whenever I'm interested in a certain bass it seems to suddenly go from 3 being available of that model to nobody listing one for months. Patience is the key.
4. Me too, but no. I helped get £80 off my singer's cheapie Epiphone about 18 months ago but they would not budge on my last 2 purchases - the far more expensive USA P-bass (reason - it was heavily discounted already) & a MIJ Jag bass (credit crunch was the reason - even when I mentioned a mere £30 difference in a shop I'd been to that morning)
5. It's your bass - do what you want. That said, natural wear & tear is definitely cooler
6. I've had stuff price matched in the Reading store but they have tightened up since the credit crunch & they wouldn't do it last time
7. Great advice from Wil - I often use a metronome or play along with demos to improve timing
8. Welcome - I've making my first trip to Vegas on Sunday. Can't wait!
9.
How much does a decent bass cost? It depends on your idea of decent. The Squier Classic Vibes are good instruments and are really well priced-but some people won't look at them because they say Squier on the headstock. Some people think £2k for a Rickenbacker is decent, others think they are horrible. Don't go looking at instruments by price. Try them all.... you may be surprised at the one's you like the most.
I whole heartedly agree. I own a Rickenbacker & it is lovely. It felt like I was buying into a lifestyle when I bought it. However with a good set up etc a £300 bass can play brilliantly
10. I always thought it was flatwounds. If you want a big thumpy sound try Rotosound Trubass - i.e. what McCartney used on the rooftop gig. Not period correct but they sound just great
11. I've filmed most of my gigs for the last 5yrs. I can reveal exclusively that for a bunch of oldies my current band is a big bunch of posers! Me included!
12. Warning L.S.D. alert - not the drug, Lead Singer Diesease. It affects far too many bands. Trust me, you can do better - ditch him
13. Try as many as you can and go with what feels right for you. If you can't play too much at the moment just try holding it and seeing how it feels. Owning a musical instrument is a very personal thing and you should just enjoy the hunt for that all important first one. Welcome to Bass.... Welcome to Basschat
14. Welcome to Basschat. I had a break from playing for a few years, years ago & it was very healthy for my playing
15. Don't know anything about these but it sure looks good!
16.
www.soundslive.co.uk is my personal fave. Fantastic service, good prices and a great supply of stock
Plus one. Best in the UK
17. I like the stock one but I won an EBay bargain of a Seymour Duncan Antiquity pup for a mere £26. The bass sounds simply awesome now.
18. Personally I found it hard to navigate. You can create an account to add bits but I don't know how you find out who wrote it.
19. Presumably you mean when trying & not online listings? Any work that needs carrying out post sale usually suggests to me it hasn't been looked after if they can't be bothered to fix it prior to sale
20. All fine & well until you play a gig with bigger boys
21. They will delete a lot of smaller band pages & they frown on people writing about themselves. This page looks pretty well established so I think you are in!
