1. Don't forget the Classic series which don't have the active pups but favour the retro stylings. I think these are vastly improved on the MIM Standards and a serious step up. Future classics even
2. Welcome to Basschat, original Wiltshire boy myself
3. He's from near my parents place too. I like the bass but I see it as more clutter. I'm sure someone will get a good deal
4. Gear shares are pretty common place from a lot of shows I've done and it doesn't bother me. I'm with Mog in that the local band brings a backline. Ultimately you can say no though. More recently I've been playing bigger gigs and we're not doing the kit share. Last time I had another band use my amp / head was Wilko Johnson and I'm hardly going to say no to Norman Watt-Roy! Ultimately though, if it's your gear it's your say.
5. Welcome to Basschat. We do seem to be very troll free compared to other sites.
6. I agree with the above comments. The pics are good (not great but they show it for what it is). There absolutely will be somebody who would kill for this bass. I like the reverse body personally but I'm put off by the 5 string factor. Other people will be the opposite, some will not like anything about it and some will really go for it. I think EBay is the way forward. Some stuff moves quickly on Basschat, other stuff takes a while. Good luck with it
7.
Nice, is that an Underwood pickup?
It's a shadow pickup & a lot of soundmen at gigs comment on how good the tone is
8.
I think that a key point here is whether you want a site to refer people to or a site to advertise yourself? I use Myspace to refer people to after I've made contact. It has all the basics for me and I've tailored it to look good using site software such as 'Coolchaser'. But....no one is ever going to find me if they are looking for a bass player so some of the alternatives that are mentioned above may be a better choice. Cheers, Jim
I'm 100% with this. MySpace can be tailored to suit your look with coolchaser, make it as simple or garish as you like. I got myself out on every site possible after I last found myself bandless. I wound up inside of a few weeks with 5 really good offers so was in a rare position of being able to turn down what would otherwise have been several potentially great opportunities in favour of what looked best to me at that time. I've recently discovered the MySpace video option as well as the MP3s. Whether I'm on Soundclick or the local musicians site I would usually refer people to MySpace. As a point of interest Freewebs lets you host your own site and you can build it up with little to no computer skills. The problem is you then need to get your url out there or nobody will know the page exists. I'd also add that as MySpace's popularity is starting to die, Facebook finally seem to be getting their act together a bit more for musicians. A situation that I can only imagine will get better
9. Here's mine I don't think I have a straight full on shot of it on it's own but you get the idea...
10. I would never use it personally but it wouldn't fit the music I play. It's like anything, don't worry about what others do - if it works for you, go for it.
11. I'm pretty cool with people playing my gear, it doesn't happen so much at gigs though. Mainly when people come around they try my kit so I guess I have more control over it. People coming up at gigs tends not to happen and I have good gear - I can only assume I look stand offish!
12. We'd need to see condition, where you advertised it (just on here or EBay too?) and whether it was realistically priced. I find loads of good quality pictures mixed with a fair but upbeat appraisal and a decent price will shift pretty much any gear. I suspect the main reason why it hasn't sold is because you've not maximised the sale's full potential in some way. Difficult to nail it without more info
13. I'm impressed by them as a whole, only found the website recently. B'ham would be my closest store I believe
14.
I wouldn't bother with a powerball personally-they fall into a similar catagory as hand grips,to me. You are much better off studying correctly and then practising slowly and accurately. If you are doing it right, you will gradually and naturally develop more strength in your hands with no pain.If it hurts, you need to step back and look at what you are doing wrong. Only a teacher will be able to tell you exactly where you are going wrong.
I don't know for certain but I suspect Doddy is a better player than me so if I were new to the forum I'd be more guided by this than my powerball corner cutting
May I ask which book and dvd you got? Im in a position at the mo where I could just afford one or two lessons but the nature of my work means my working hours are all over the place so lessons arent really ideal just yet
It was http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Learn-Play-Bass-Upri...=item53ddb5cc85 no book for me
15. Some great answers here so I'm sure my 2c will pail into insignificance by comparison. Firstly I bought a starting double bass DVD and took on board all the advice (£12 well spent), secondly little and often practice, thirdly get a powerball and finally get a lesson or two. I'm still stuck on 4 and I must pull my finger out. I've gone from not being able to do a whole song to doing 4 gigs this year on it.
16. Is the coat hanger in the first photo included in the sale? I should co-co!
17. Del Shannon. It was 20yrs ago today that he killed himself.
18. Tis a great bass & Stevie was very easy to deal with. Perhaps this could be the most owned bass on the forum? It's one for all the Precision boys to dip a toe into the water with!
19. Welcome to Basschat. I had a break for a few years and it did my playing the world of good longer term.
20. Well that Hofner looks pretty great to me
21. Hey Ross - hurry back with those pictures.... and welcome!
22. As a fellow bassman head owner I have to say, you did well there. Looks great, bet it sounds good too
23. I love the look of those Rickenbacker 4005. Oasis always do have cool looking instruments
24. As an aside it can also be down to the individual players. This was summed up recently by Paul Stanley of Kiss (of all people!) who was recently recounting a tale of seeing some player from Kevin DuBrow's band hand his guitar to Randy Rhodes. Same gear, same settings but tonally a world apart! Of course it can also be that the jazz player fiddled with the amp settings unfavourably. Not disputing anything said here, just offering a couple of further thoughts. And FYI I'm mainly a P-player.
25. All looks good to me & it's in keeping with the rule that there are no rules
