1. Reminds me of being a kid in the 70s so thumbs up from me!
2. Got up and played mandolin with my old band this week at a gig in Swindon which was both interesting and good fun. Funny how an 8 string instrument draws so many comments from the audience.
3. I had a CIJ one from 2000 which was awesome. Don't know if you mean the US or the MIJ ones but I generally only hear good things
4. Very sad and my thoughts are with his family / friends. I do remember his posts. My brother is autistic and went through hell at school until he was moved to a Special School (this was pre-Rain Man when people really didn't understand Autism). Some people don't appreciate what is funny for them is hell for others.
5. I had a Morley wah for a while. Excellent pedal but I never used it so I sold it on in the end
6. Welcome to Basschat. Did the Marquee myself a couple of times back in the day... just a shame nobody I work with has actually heard of it!
7. I think there are a lot of half decent basses out there really cheap & with a few smaller modifications they become great. Face it, if you buy a starter drum kit you can really spice it up with some decent cymbals. Equally a lot of great kit is vastly over priced. You can pay a third of the price to get something that is 90% as good. Same with amps, same with most musical kit.
8.
I will BAN anyone who buys this lol Si
The voice of common sense
9. Well I use those and make no apologies. I don't like to skimp on cables and thought those looked pretty cool. It doesn't make me play better, it doesn't make me more attractive to women but they are pretty sturdy and reliable. Worth the money? Maybe not but I'm happy with mine.
10. I played one last year and was amazed at how good it sounded
11.
Are these genuinely rare? I thought they were just the standard Jazz shape for about 4 or 5 years around the early 90s? If so, there must have been thousands sold.
That's what I thought - I think rare just means a little bit hard to come by these days.
12. Only ever had good service from GAK. I've not ordered for a couple of years but I've used them a fair bit in the past
13. I too disable comments on my videos. Some of the stuff posted is actually quite offensive. I've seen racist remarks that have remained for months that YouTube don't seem interested in taking down. Just bizarre. I agree, ignore the comments. And good call on the arm chair critics being asked to show us how it's done!
14. Wayne beat me to it. Although I think black might be a bit more appropriate for church?! Danelectro are uber light, uber cool and come in several hundred pounds under budget. A serious contender surely?
15. Probably worth more to you than to sell it. Effectively you have an old MIJ neck on a MIM body. The fact the tuners are from a 78 MIA is neither here nor there. You'd probably fair better breaking it up for parts. Don't get me wrong, the love that has gone into assembling it is clearly there but as a package I reckon you'd not get much more than £350 at most. Split it up and it'd be a different story. Looks great but from experience the modifications are always a personal thing and not to everyone's tastes
16. I played on some demos about 10yrs ago and was lent one by Andy Lewis who now plays for Paul Weller. I was blown away. I think they are great for recording. Obviously not the most sturdy but if you don't throw it about in the back of a van there's no reason why one couldn't be taken on tour. I bought a 63 long scale bass last year. Not as classic as that 90s Longhorn I used but decent for what it was. I'd say I was a fan overall
17. We played Bedford last night. A good show, we were well looked after, good crowd & headliners Nashville's The Bittersweets were really cool.
18. Hey Andy - I didn't start playing until 1988! Those Squiers back then were awesome & they seem to have come full circle with the new ones too. Been there with the Japanese P-basses & the 4003 too. Welcome to Basschat anyway
19.
It was a Sunburst, torty guard, maple neck with rosewood board, I suppose the only other thing was the strap button. again
Yep sounds like a 62RI, good luck with the search for one. They are great fun & you should be able to find one you like
20. I have an I serial number Fender MIJ P - bass from the following year which was my main bass throughout the 90s. The MIJ stuff is just great anyway. It might well be a 62RI but without more description it's hard to tie it down.
