1. Played Open Mic last night & backed a couple of other acts on the Upright - some country guy from Louisana & a Jazz singer. Loved the country guy, less into the Jazz singer but nice to be asked.
2. Bump for Bedford! This is now an acoustic show 06 Feb 2010, 20:00 08:00 PM - Harpur Suite, Bedford with The Bittersweets The Harpur Suite at The Corn Exchange, Bedford, MK40 1LE - £12 Full band acoustic set opening for Nashvilles The Bittersweets http://www.eastwestpromotions.co.uk/ http://www.myspace.com/thebittersweets
3.
I've got one of the MIJ 70s reissue Ps. Brilliant bass, and personally I think you'd struggle to get a better Precision within your budget.
I agree. Slimmer neck too so if you like your Jazz, this fits in nicely
The P I've liked the most is the MIM 50s Classic. Of course you may not feel the same.
I agree with 4000 too. Despite your initial MIM views the Classic is a whole new league
4. Welcome to Basschat - hope you get back to playing soon
5. Hi Sam - Welcome to Basschat
6. Wow, great thread! I can certainly see a lot of validity in the original thread. I've always argued looks are key & I fully agree that most non musicians don't really notice tone. For me tone has been more of a quest in my later playing days. Initially it was about the image, then it became about playability and the tone came later. Perhaps because I got the other things sorted? However right now I'm certainly having a lot of fun on my tone quest
7. Good man Alfie - Happy to help and it looks great.
8.
http://www.dv247.com/guitars/stagg-edb-3-4...ent-blue--49966 have any of these type of electrics been used in orchestral settings?
These sound great and I've seen / played Floyd Pepper's one (better colour). However my current singer is a real traditionalist and such a snob that if I dared show up with one of these I'd be fired! My response at the time was "Calm down Pete, they do them in different colours!". They sound the biz but I too prefer the traditional look - an opinion I usually challenge around 2am as I struggle up the stairs with my upright!
9. Opinions are like a***holes, everyone's got one. Actually joking aside I agree with the general sentiment of what people have posted so far. My 1978 Precision is the mutts nuts. Whilst I would be quick to acknowledge it is regarded as a fact that there are a few turkeys from the 70s, there are also some absolute stunners too. A few things to watch for like weight, 3 bolt necks etc but I wouldn't be put off by the era. I am sure there are more people spouting the 70s were rubbish theory then there are people who have played 70s Fenders. I still remember when Japanese stuff was regarded as rubbish and having played a ton of the older instruments I can only agree with what everyone else is now saying.
10.
The price of this bass with hard case is $3599 plus shipping.
Cheers, mine will be resting over the handbrake for some time yet then!
11. We drove 285 miles to play York last weekend with mine. This Saturday is Bedford. Right now that looks like Heaven! Are they expensive?
12. I hope to keep mine all original for as long as possible but if I had to change it I'd go for the Fender vintage bridge http://shop.absolute-guitars.co.uk/fender-...rome-1032-p.asp
13. Welcome to Basschat Lady Karyi
14. Welcome to Basschat Matt, got to love those Jag basses
15. I played through one & was really impressed. I have the SVT 150h which was what they did in the 90s. A great back up head for sets where I don't want to cart around a great big valve head
16.
I have a Fender bassman 135, circa 1978. People normally say they are too clean for lead guitar but too quiet for Bass. I have used this head at rehearsals and some quite large pub gigs and it stands up well in a 5 piece, with two guitars and a full drum kit, no problem at all.
My head is 1978 too & I have to agree it's plenty loud enough. These really vary in price depending on condition. I use mine through an Ampeg SVT 115E
