1.
I saw The Queer Boys in 1986, at the Bierkeller in Bristol, supporting The Babysitters and The Cherry Bombz. They got heckled alot and so one of the band announced there and then that they were changing their name to The Quireboys in order to (and I quote) 'stop everyone calling us p**fs'...
Many a happy memory of the Bierkeller. I never saw The Babysitters but I saw Buttz's next band Last of The Teenage Idols and again never saw the Cherry Bombz but I saw Andy & Nasty in Hanoi and several other bands (Cheap N Nasty, Demolition 23....). Great days!

7.
Not one of any note! We were called 'City Heat' and The 'Boys played a club called Monroes in Stockport just after they got signed - we were local so got the gig.... They were way grittier than us!
Thanks for that. I remember the name of the venue with bands like Sweet Addiction and Gunfire Dance playing there "back in the day". Never been personally but we played similar venues all over the UK.
8. I quite like Epiphone basses and had a few earlier on in the last decade. I had the EB3 over the EB0 as I'm just shy of 6'3" so thought I'd look odd with a short scale bass. I like the look of these though. I did find the pickups ranged from really good (Jack Casady, thunderbird etc) to quite poor (Flying V) on the ones I had. Still I like the back to basics vibe of the EB0
9. Sort of intersting but I wouldn't want one myself
10.
A band I was in supported The Quireboys in the early 90's.... don't remember much apart from a very rock'n'roll attitude, Spike's voice and their drummer - he had a three piece kit and he was amazing! Jimijimmi on the forum was bassist for them until recently... we worked out that he wasn't even born when I played on the same bill as them - how to feel old very, very suddenly!
What band were you in back then? I got to back Tyla from Dogs D'Amour which I guess is the other side of the same coin
11.
I remember seeing The Quireboys when they were The Queer Boys.
I was into them from the first couple of indie singles so about a year after the name change. I don't reckon I play their stuff more than twice a year now (although I saw the reformed band a handful of times from 2002-9) but it was a big appeal as to why I got playing. I liked the bass lines in old tv shows too & my parents records had some great players on them but it was that scene that finally kick started it for me.
12. I could reference the cooler aspects of my parents record collection whilst growing up but it was the late 80s sleaze / glam scene (especially The Quireboys) that finally made me want to play. I always thought the bass players were the cool ones
13.
He's wily, saying that " I don't know anything about guitars" he frees himself from any responsability.
Classic con, up there with selling for a mate
14. I blew a slowblow fuse on my bass head. It was a 4a one which was rare but luckily I picked up a 10 pack on EBay. I'm very much plug in & play too
15. I had an Epi Les Paul which was great but I sold it to tarcher as I'm more of a Fender player. Floyd Pepper has just bought a Gibson & I know he was very pleased with it.
16. I kind of like it without actually wanting one
17. MU gives you much more than any insurance quote in my opinion
18.
The trouble with that (correct) argument is that it really only was P-basses around at the time!
Production began on Rickenbackers back in 1957. Gibson had 2 EB basses by the end of the fifties and a lot of choices come the early 60s, as with several other makers too. So bearing in mind most of those bassists classic recordings were done in the 1960s I don't think it's quite so straight forward. I think there is more choice and better quality across the boards these days if that is what you mean but to say that Fender Precision was the only choice doesn't quite seem right.
19.
Love the Jazz Bass - if only this was in the UK to try out!
Plus one. I'd love an Antiqua but would want to try it first. Looks great though so have a bump!
20. A few questions (not wanting to get your hopes up) as I am in the market for a Rickenbacker Bass and can realistically could pay cash this week if the right deal is there. I'm looking at a couple already but like the age of this and you are only a couple of hours from me. 1) In the initial post you state you have more pics to follow? The one attached is ok but if the back is suffering buckle rash and the tuner has been replaced I'd need to see what this looks like. Also close up shots of the bass. 2) What's the weight of this one? 3) Any history? How long have you owned it etc. Why are you selling? 4) Original case? Thanks in advance, Tim
21.
That is proberbly how the 60's/70's ones came, bearing in mind that the red and yellow will have faded by now and the black often takes on a brownish colour with age.
Yep, I agree. I still think the MIM Classics are good quality and a lot of the standards I've seen look ok although admittedly I haven't tried one lately
22. I assume you have no backing tapes... or do you? It depends on how good the players are. I remember doing Town Called Malice by the Jam in that format and it sounding good. You can presumably play anything you want and just get in a groove. A good song always sounds great when things are stripped back a little. Maybe popular songs stripped back from that era.
23. I know a few left handed people who play right handed. The singer in my current band is a lefty and I'm amazed how many people have said it looks odd. It just looks left handed to me.
24. Welcome - some great looking basses. I too have a 70s Mocha brown Fender bass. Enjoy the forum.
