1. We played at What's Cookin' in London last night which is one of the main venues on the alt.country / Americana circuit. Great crowd, good night & we played well. I love the set up on stage (see pic). I took my smaller Ampeg BA115 combo as it's more portable & it sounded great (I thought that during the support band too which is encouraging).
2. Great photos - I'm dying to know what it sounds like
3. I believe they did. I had a natural one from around 1999 but this was certainly the more popular choice.
4. I have a little Kustom 16w practice amp that is great fun. I think there is a lot of choice on the market these days & its harder to go wrong
5.
Ive picked them up over the last 5 yrs ranging from £800 for the the P without pickguard plus shipping from USA
I assume that'll be the one with the black pickguard on the left then? It's a really awesome idea for a collection. I love the P-bass of yours that is fairly centre stage. They all look great
6. I had my amp die on me at soundcheck at the last gig. The cause was a 4a Slo Blo fuse that are pretty rare. Incredibly the venue had a bass amp & 4x10 cab that I was able to use. I found the fuses on EBay and stocked up accordingly. I have spare tubes etc but lesson learnt on the Slo Blo fuses
7.
I've never heard of them. I wonder if you mean D'Addario?
No but I bet they sound great on a Fonder Jozz bass!
8.
Most (all ) i've come across were '77 and'78 maybe other years but i've not seen them antony
Hey Antony - What sort of price range are you picking these up for or have you owned them for years? I was watching a P-bass on EBay that I forgot about recently that went for £1000. I love that collection shot of yours. An incredible collection.
9. I've owned a couple (white and sunburst) and played a few - they are amazing value for what you pay for. The neckdive didn't bother me but as Jean Luc Pickguard says, an easy fix. I would always recommend one to anyone curious over trying one.
10. I heard this the other day. Incredible story
11. I really like the Phil Spector album with Christmas (Baby Please COme Home). We did Rocking around the Xmas Tree last year which was good fun. It's just a bit of fun after all
12.
Good price at £300. I'd have it if I were you.
+1
13. Looking good. I recently acquired an old Antoria Jazz myself (from these very pages) so you've certainly got my interest
14. I think often the repairs wind up being stronger than the original wood but the risk is it seriously devalues the instrument and can bother the owner. I wouldn't run away from such a sale but I'd certainly be looking to proceed with caution and the word discount would certainly have to be in the sellers vocabulary.
15.
Nice link & some nice stuff on there, too. A couple of the Jazzes seem to be priced a little on the optimistic side, though, especially the '65!
+1
16. Looks great though - undeniably a con but great pics. I'd prefer a 73 though!
17. Welcome. I'm a bit of an ex-punk myself & coincidentally supported Norman Watt-Roy (in Wilko Johnson's band) just the other week. An incredible player!
18. They both look great. I've been playing MIJ / CIJ for 20yrs and I reckon you'd get £400 each as a fair price. Although the prices have since been hiked up since you bought them the second hand prices don't seem to have massively raised by comparison. I'm not in the market for them myself but they make a fine set
19. I tried my USA P-bass through one and I was blown away. It is insanely light and portable & I'm sorely tempted myself. It does remind me of Stonehenge but looks of amps don't bother me. If I had the money I'd buy one
20.
OK, so what about us baldies? Should we wear hats on the principle that hats are cool so why shouldn't we get to wear them like hairy bas***ds, or should we avoid them on the 'Edge' principla that everyone is going, 'well we know why he wears a hat'? fatback
My personal view is people should do what they want to do. My guitarist wears a hat all the time because he is greying but has very cool hair. You do what you want. I hate this whole stigma of you can't do this because of a certain reason. The basic premise of rock n roll was that there were no rules. I don't personally care for U2 but I don't see the deal with The Edge - if he wants to wear a hat, fine. A bit like with nose jobs - it obviously doesn't bother Pete Townsend where as Cilla Black obviously was concerned enough to have surgery. Live and let live, I say. Do your thing Fatback, I know I do!
21. I've done a bunch of biker shows and they are great fun. usually charity events too. I'm sure it'll be alright on the night
22. I think everyone is different. Personally I love a P-bass and I've used one for a variety of different genres. Ultimately though the rule is there are no rules and people should use whatever they like.
