1. I've done it on the mandolin a few times but I've never done House Band on the bass. Great fun & certainly a great way to stretch yourself
2.
Just collect this cab from Glasgow
Was that the one on EBay? Very cool
3. The EMG pickup looks a bit, well, silly on that bass. Should've scuffed that up a bit too!
4. My USA 60th anniversary has been sporting them since I picked it up - great tone, welcome to the club!
5. The Dennis Dunaway sig model would do me!
6. I was pleased to see the Danelectro 63 Long Scale bass review.
7. Great collection. We have similar tastes. I like the converse too. Less keen on the curtain but that's more one for www.curtainchat.co.uk surely?
8. I have a couple of through body Fenders and a couple of toploader bridge ones. They all sound good. To be honest my head was hurting too much trying to work out which was better. They all sound good.
9. It is normal I'm afraid. I always phone and do a stock check first these days
10. A bit of both really. I used to try to come across as cool and arrogant as this was always the sort of persona I admired in my youth. After hundreds and hundreds of gigs I have something that is relaxed and natural now. I do think it is all about performance onstage - both as a musician and as an entertainer.
11.
Pics? Im pretty sure most rosewood boards have varying colours all over them, not just one consistent colour.
A couple of pics attached. If you notice at the end of the neck there is a section that is lighter and again around the fret markers there is a slight lightening. Any thoughts from the rosewood experts much appreciated.
12. I've always been a maple fretboard user with my instruments but recently I've been coming around to the qualities of rosewood too. I have noticed there is a bit of discolouration on one of my fretboards. I've lemon oiled it but there are still a couple of slightly lighter bits on the fretboard. Being new to rosewood I have to admit I'm stumped. Do I just reapply lemon oil paying attention to the lighter bits? Is it a problem or is there another way of addressing this? Thanks in advance.
13. Looks good but I am a bit cynical with Fender when it seems to be little more than an existing model in a different colour. I'm a major Fender user but they do keep reinventing the wheel (but what a wheel!). I was on Fender's website earlier and noticed that my favourite sig models are of bassists who I don't really care for. And adding my name to the out of touch club, I thought this was James Jamerson too.
14. Sometimes you get real gems at that price. Usually not though! Still at that sort of price I say go for it. I have a sub £200 acoustic bass that is simply awesome.
15. Thanks guys - it was genuine curiousity. I play 50/50 between pick / fingers, My USA P-bass has black nylon strings and they just naturally seemed to lend themselves more to fingerstyle. Sounds fine with a pick as it happens but I prefer the tone with fingers - perhaps I need to play around more and roll back the tone a little? I like McCartney / Beatles but don't play them much. I was aware he was a pick user but assumed he mixed it up a little.
16. I don't use effects. Occassionally I have the tuner pedal but usually it's just the bass. Two reasons, I don't like bass effects as a personal view and I don't like carting any more kit then I have to.
17. I can only see myself with a variation on a Fender P-bass. I'd go with Body Shape: Standard P-Bass Body Body Wood: Alder Finish: Black or white or a cool shade with matching headstock on the cool shade (my sig bass comes in several colours!) Neck: 1-Piece Maple, Thick “C” Shape,(Gloss Urethane Finish) Scale Length: Standard 34" Fingerboard: Maple probably but coming around to rosewood more in my old age. Frets: 20 Vintage Style frets Pickup: Seymour Duncan SPB-1 or Antiquity Pickguard: tort Hardware: Chrome with ashtray covers
18. Pretty much as the topic title says really? Looking at the video it suggests he does. I like the TruBass strings but must confess I have been playing them fingerstyle.
19. Welcome... and I like the name The Runwells!
20. Fair play! I'm not a Marshall user but it's always good to hear such stories.
21. I was admiring the same bass in Dawson's Reading only the other day. very cool!
