1.
Good price at £300. I'd have it if I were you.
+1
2. Looking good. I recently acquired an old Antoria Jazz myself (from these very pages) so you've certainly got my interest
3. I think often the repairs wind up being stronger than the original wood but the risk is it seriously devalues the instrument and can bother the owner. I wouldn't run away from such a sale but I'd certainly be looking to proceed with caution and the word discount would certainly have to be in the sellers vocabulary.
4.
Nice link & some nice stuff on there, too. A couple of the Jazzes seem to be priced a little on the optimistic side, though, especially the '65!
+1
5. Looks great though - undeniably a con but great pics. I'd prefer a 73 though!
6. Welcome. I'm a bit of an ex-punk myself & coincidentally supported Norman Watt-Roy (in Wilko Johnson's band) just the other week. An incredible player!
7. They both look great. I've been playing MIJ / CIJ for 20yrs and I reckon you'd get £400 each as a fair price. Although the prices have since been hiked up since you bought them the second hand prices don't seem to have massively raised by comparison. I'm not in the market for them myself but they make a fine set
8. I tried my USA P-bass through one and I was blown away. It is insanely light and portable & I'm sorely tempted myself. It does remind me of Stonehenge but looks of amps don't bother me. If I had the money I'd buy one
9. Knock 'em dead!
10.
OK, so what about us baldies? Should we wear hats on the principle that hats are cool so why shouldn't we get to wear them like hairy bas***ds, or should we avoid them on the 'Edge' principla that everyone is going, 'well we know why he wears a hat'? fatback
My personal view is people should do what they want to do. My guitarist wears a hat all the time because he is greying but has very cool hair. You do what you want. I hate this whole stigma of you can't do this because of a certain reason. The basic premise of rock n roll was that there were no rules. I don't personally care for U2 but I don't see the deal with The Edge - if he wants to wear a hat, fine. A bit like with nose jobs - it obviously doesn't bother Pete Townsend where as Cilla Black obviously was concerned enough to have surgery. Live and let live, I say. Do your thing Fatback, I know I do!
11. I've done a bunch of biker shows and they are great fun. usually charity events too. I'm sure it'll be alright on the night
12. I think everyone is different. Personally I love a P-bass and I've used one for a variety of different genres. Ultimately though the rule is there are no rules and people should use whatever they like.
13. My mis-spent youth included The Ex-Boyfriends* & I'm sure we played with you a handful of times. Great days with Paul & Bluefire records. We used to love playing The Maltings. *I was about to add that I used to be the bass player but bearing in mind where we are, this would be really quite dumb!?!
14.
Playing Guidford Festival around 1999
Were you in Inter? I think I played with you! Musically speaking!!
15. Not mine but http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ibanez-70s-Style-Bas...=item20ae210efa I was on EBay and saw this before I saw Mr.Foxen's link!
16. Chris - try rotosound trubass nylon strings. A fair bit cheaper than mucking about with pickups & the most double bass sounding tone you'll ever get on a bass guitar. If you play with fingers they really are very upright-y.
17. I came to it at 36yrs old & the best tool / piece of advice I had was get a powerball. Really worthwhile in building strength & stamina. I really should get a couple of lessons too but touchwood no issues at present.
18. I love it. I had one of the early reissues on a CIJ tele but these were much greener than the 70s ones. I'd love an original 70s P-bass if I could afford one. I know they are not to everyone's tastes but my view has always been "I'm the one who is playing it!". The tele is long gone but it served me well. Incidentally there were some great pics of these on Basschat when I did a search for them the other week.
19. The bottom two pics appear to be a different P-bass!?
20.
The Squier Classic Vibe 50's Precision & the Fender '51/Sting all have a tree trunk of a neck that's surprisingly comfortable to play. Also, the new MIM Classic Series 50's Precision (the ones with the small/tall tuners & gold anodised guard) has a lovely thick neck profile.
Beaten me to it, although it's worth pointing out that the standard 57RI is shallower than the 51 which feels like a Louisville Slugger by comparison. It put me off initially but since I have been playing an upright the 51ri feels like heaven
21. Are you rebuilding that bass around the original nut?
22. We played last night at The Betsey Trotwood in London. Completely acoustic! No mics, nothing. No chatting in that crowd! I thought we were good and I got the biggest cheer when the band was introduced. The bass player from the headline band was better than me but then I've only been on the upright a few months. My second gig since I started battling cancer so I can only look at it as a complete success. Tired today mind!
23. No 2, No 4, No 3, No 1. That order. They all seem fair to excellent.
24. I mix both and tend to play with a pick on the rockier numbers, fingers on the softer songs. I have to say there is some excellent advice here. Fair play to you for wanting to stretch yourself as a player. I experiment too - sometimes what I think will be a plectrum tune works out better vice versa. Keep practicing and it'll all sound good
25. Five years whilst away from this site and I managed to go years without before I had the web. I'm back on these pages now so it's a good year for the shopkeeper!
