When Leo Fender invented the bass, it was designed as such so replacements necks could be fitted easily. It's amazing how little this actually happens. I've done it a few times and it really does just feel like getting a new instrument, albeit one that is familiar and you are settled into playing. So I would also add that the neck is the smart option here.

I vary my technique a lot but seem to be doing a lot of pic playing at the moment. 1mm custom design ones.

Paul bought a pickguard from me & reading 4 glowing pages of fine reviews, I can only echo the comments already made. A pleasure. Trade with confidence.

Although a 73 Precision is my YOB bass so perhaps more in common than would appear.

I thought I'd done a family portrait recently but it was way back in 2017 according to my search. Here's the gang in all their glory (missing my upright and uke bass - not pictured, with all my amps in the kitchen). My kit (l-r) front Gibson Thunderbird, Eastwood EEB-1, Burns 6 strong bass, 51 bitsa, Rickenbacker 4003s, middle Fender Precision & Fender Jazz, back Eastwood BV, Gretsch G5440LSB, cheap Acoustic Bass and Hofner Verythin long scale bass.

Having flown the flag for vinyl even well into the CD age, I appear to have inadvertently become fashionable by default. I would wager a fair few of those vinyl sales during lockdown can be traced directly to my house. I like all the formats and find streaming good during exercise and CDs are okay in the car but I do love the ritual of putting on a record.

I had three quite specific ambitions as a teenager; 1) Release a record (done that, initially on cassette and then on CD with vinyl finally coming much later - I had never specified vinyl at the time but upon reflection, this is what I had meant) 2) Play the Marquee Club in London (my teens were spent watching a VHS cassette of Hanoi Rocks at the Marquee & thankfully this ambition was far more achievable than I had anticipated - pleased I never picked Madison Square Gardens!) 3) Make a controversial appearance on the Wogan Show (the closest I got here was Jonathan Ross very reluctantly taking a demo tape off of me - that I assume went straight in the bin - in the street back in the 90s so I definitely fell very short here). I did make an appearance on 90s ITV rock show Noisy Mothers in early 1995 but we were on around 3am! In every case the reality was different to the fantasy but all good fun at the time.

My musical taste is affecting my bass purshace...
Cat Burrito replied to Pedro_Mendonca's topic in General Discussion
As well as the eternal quest for tone, I think it's a visual thing too. And I suspect it is something most musicians experience. -
Gene stopped playing Thunderbirds around '74 so clearly it's a long relationship he's had with the model! I loved those Grabbers he used but he ditched those by the end of the 70s too. Shame on Gene but shame on Gibson for such an obvious cash in.

NBD - 1971 Precision (with a bumpy start)

You're really working the room with this thread! 😎 -
^^^This^^^ for me would make the most sense. It would be a missed opportunity if they just launch a blue one.

Aguilar Ltd Edition Colour Cabs - Poseidon Green
Cat Burrito replied to Mikey D's topic in Amps and Cabs
I like the purple ones and those green ones. Aguilar do some great colours. I have a super cool chocolate brown one that has been for sale on these very pages for a little while now. They definitely stand out! -
How do you structure practice time?
Cat Burrito replied to Nickthebass's topic in General Discussion
Generally I play along with records / YouTube / demos etc. I play a lot at the moment but my practice is definitely geared towards what I need to know, rather than some quest to be better. That said, on a semi regular basis, I try to teach myself a new trick to keep my playing fresh. -
I have a jumbo no brand ebony acoustic bass that I strung with flats. It sounds pretty decent. Acoustically you lose a little volume but I find rounds on an acoustic bass tend to sound pretty horrible. (personal view) I have never been a fan of Fender's acoustic range as it isn't their strong point. Some of the cheap brands can sound just as good, if not better than the Fender range when it comes to acoustic basses. My bass was only a shade over £100 but I would never sell it as it is not worth it for the resale. I'm used to mid to high end electric basses so I guess it must be halfway decent. It was recommended by a well respected player locally and I have taken it out on some pretty big shows. It's mostly sat at home in the bedroom and I use it to play along with the Alexa speaker. Big bodies and flatwound strings seems to be my preference with acoustic basses.

I don't know but it wouldn't surprise me. He's very approachable so if you go on his site and drop him a message I am sure he'd have that conversation with you in a non-pushy sales kinda way.

I have a 4003s that I use very frequently. The s has the all important 60s stylings & I love mine. There's a lot of hate online for them (a mix of the way the company has been run & not being as easy as a Fender in terms of playability) but I really like the tone and the look. £1200 is good money for a 4003s - if you didn't like it you'd make money selling it on in the UK. I rarely see them go under £1400.

I've shared a couple of these now on here and people have been really decent about this. Our record company decided to put our album out this year despite Covid-19 so we haven't been able to tour it (like many of you). Luckily we had enough video making skills to do a few videos and this is our last offering of 2020. This song was picked up by El Pias in Spain where we recommended along with The Rolling Stones, resulting in a 923% increase to our play on Spotify. This was the (title) track they liked and it's due to feature on the cover mount CD of next month's UK magazine RNR. The video is just camera phone footage of an old rehearsal.

What are you up to band wise these days since leaving Knock Off @Lozz196?

Having owned a Fender 51 and a couple of Squiers, I had been missing owning one. Just in the last couple of weeks I finished getting some parts together (mostly Squier) and assembled this one. Cheap as chips and plays great. I have been playing it for at least an hour every day and found it quite inspiring.

‘74 Jazz bass and the fear of getting it refretted
Cat Burrito replied to mike f's topic in General Discussion
My father in law has a 73 P bass in the same position. The answer is leave it if it is retired and purely on show, otherwise life goes on and you should get it done. Do your research, get a refret done by someone who knows what they are doing (rather than just someone who does setups) and there is no problem. -
Put together out of some Squier bass and parts from here;

Keith bought some Ashtray covers off of me. Smooth and effortless transaction, typical of the very best of Basschat trades.
