  1. Presumably "Road worn"
  2. Now you can join all the Rickenbacker groups on social media where an embarrassingly high number of bassists get disproportionately upset as to whether to keep or remove the USA flag sticker! Whatever you do, they are great fun basses and hopefully you'll get years of enjoyment from it.
  3. I practice standing, sat on the bed or sat on the sofa. More often this year it's sat on the sofa but I tend to vary it. I have been playing more than ever during this lockdown.
  4. I've used them a few times for parts and they are very well respected. He's not going anywhere so I would be surprised if he would try and rip a customer off. All the Rickenbacker Facebook pages rave about him. As said, I suspect as a small business he's looking to avoid fees.
  5. Most people I know are really good but there are one or two that are horrific. When I bought my Rickenbacker it was described as immaculate but had a few small chips and knocks in the headstock and at the other end. The seller would have known and we had a chat about what "immaculate" actually meant before I paid him. I also picked up an acoustic for a singer and when the seller got it, it was by far the most bowed neck I have ever seen. Most of my stuff is regularly played and looks as new.
  6. I play in a Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute (more a bunch of mates having a laugh) called Creedence Clearwater Revival Revival. Bring it on!
  7. Any of those with no need for a fish pun!
  8. Threads have been merged, in case anyone is coming to this wondering what's going on. I'll hide the merge request comments.
  9. When you consider the small resale value of the original 80s ones, I am amazed at how much they cost.
  10. Once again Fender have really ripped up the rulebook with these models!
  11. Not really. The Hofner Verythin has done a lot of shows across Europe and the UK but the Rickenbacker has done a lot of recording. So between those two and the Thunderbird, the black precision and the Gretsch, which all get played at home a lot. Potentially all of those and the Jazz get rotated live when we're not in the middle of a pandemic. I don't think there is anything that I am unsure about. The Burns is for recording so not a main player and the V is short scale which is a slight put off but I don't plan on getting rid of any of those any time soon.
  12. I'd personally be within the 30 days but it's the wider picture of crew and people outside of my band that are impacted upon too. This does knock on to smaller bands. We've now lost a touring deal with a Norwegian promoter and because of the pandemic we've got rescheduled tours of Spain, Norway and other parts of Europe that are now looking more problematic. It just pushes it closer towards the "too hard to do" box. Nothing is certain yet and I am trying to remain optimistic. It isn't a great move though, on top of everything else.
  13. My dodgy sixth Form goth band used to do a cover of this in the late 80s. Obviously Sisters style. With the twist of not as well!!!! 😂
  14. if you ever listen to a band recording minus the bass line, even with the quietest most mundane bass part, the song sounds sort of, wrong. We make music not sound wrong.
  15. I got recognised on holiday a few years ago when I was first with my missus. I played it cool but was secretly delighted. I think a lot of bass players like to shun the spotlight which is why they play bass but there are a few posers covering the low end and with absolutely no pride I can confirm I am one of them!
  16. If it bothers you, Ped or one of the admins can change your username so it isn't as shouty. No dramas if you are fine with it. Just don't review us on Trustpilot if we do! 😉
  17. It was nearly Motorhead. I remember when Lemmy died and they had a show to play Swindon; the promoter said "no, the show is still going ahead, they've only lost the bass player!" (**true story! It was front page of the Swindon Advertiser at the time)
  18. When Leo Fender invented the bass, it was designed as such so replacements necks could be fitted easily. It's amazing how little this actually happens. I've done it a few times and it really does just feel like getting a new instrument, albeit one that is familiar and you are settled into playing. So I would also add that the neck is the smart option here.
  19. I vary my technique a lot but seem to be doing a lot of pic playing at the moment. 1mm custom design ones.
  20. Paul bought a pickguard from me & reading 4 glowing pages of fine reviews, I can only echo the comments already made. A pleasure. Trade with confidence.
  21. Although a 73 Precision is my YOB bass so perhaps more in common than would appear.
  22. I thought I'd done a family portrait recently but it was way back in 2017 according to my search. Here's the gang in all their glory (missing my upright and uke bass - not pictured, with all my amps in the kitchen). My kit (l-r) front Gibson Thunderbird, Eastwood EEB-1, Burns 6 strong bass, 51 bitsa, Rickenbacker 4003s, middle Fender Precision & Fender Jazz, back Eastwood BV, Gretsch G5440LSB, cheap Acoustic Bass and Hofner Verythin long scale bass.
  23. Having flown the flag for vinyl even well into the CD age, I appear to have inadvertently become fashionable by default. I would wager a fair few of those vinyl sales during lockdown can be traced directly to my house. I like all the formats and find streaming good during exercise and CDs are okay in the car but I do love the ritual of putting on a record.
  24. I had three quite specific ambitions as a teenager; 1) Release a record (done that, initially on cassette and then on CD with vinyl finally coming much later - I had never specified vinyl at the time but upon reflection, this is what I had meant) 2) Play the Marquee Club in London (my teens were spent watching a VHS cassette of Hanoi Rocks at the Marquee & thankfully this ambition was far more achievable than I had anticipated - pleased I never picked Madison Square Gardens!) 3) Make a controversial appearance on the Wogan Show (the closest I got here was Jonathan Ross very reluctantly taking a demo tape off of me - that I assume went straight in the bin - in the street back in the 90s so I definitely fell very short here). I did make an appearance on 90s ITV rock show Noisy Mothers in early 1995 but we were on around 3am! In every case the reality was different to the fantasy but all good fun at the time.
  25. My kit (l-r) front Gibson Thunderbird, Eastwood EEB-1, Burns 6 strong bass, 51 bitsa, Rickenbacker 4003s, middle Fender Precision & Fender Jazz, back Eastwood BV, Gretsch G5440LSB, cheap Acoustic Bass and Hofner Verythin long scale bass.
