  1. Offered for sale are two full sets of official Fender chrome Ashtray covers. £20 each collected or £23 posted (Paypal or bank transfer both fine). If you want screws too, I have a pack of official Fender ones so can stick a few in with them (not sure how you'd know if they were or weren't official Fender ones, but trust me, they are). Quick phone snaps attached. These are in good condition and a lot cheaper than most of the ones on EBay that will incur import charges (trust me, I found out the hard way). If messaging me, let me know if it is P or J ones that you want. Check out my feedback thread on here if you haven't dealt with me before.
  2. Offered for sale is the body to a 50s Squier bass in white blonde. It came off a 2020 model bought earlier this year. There is a small nick to the varnish / paint BUT this is situated UNDER the bridge so unless you plan to have a bridge free bass (???) it won't show. The finish is lovely and the grain comes through beautifully. Unlike the 51 you have the contour so it's a bit more comfortable. Weight wise, I can't be exact but it is slightly heavier than my other Squiers I have owned. Not a lead weight but weighing in a little more than expected. It comes unloaded as I used some of the parts for another project. Collection from the Wilts / Berks borders OR I am happy to post Royal Mail for an additional £10 (that's with me taking a small hit financially to do that). Check my feedback thread to see that I am okay to deal with / buy from. Generally this is as new as it's only sat around my house for a few months.
  3. In the mid 90s I did a show with a few slightly past their peak indie bands like Neds Atomic Dustbin, Mega City 4 and Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine. Much lower down the bill was "Oizone" who did a set of purely Boyzone covers (who were massive at the time, although probably not with anyone at that gig) but in an "Oi" style. Oizone refused to soundcheck as they felt it was too muso. They also insisted on borrowing some other hapless band's gear. They burst in wearing stockings over their heads like it was a Post Office raid, blasted straight into "Love Me For A Reason" and then did a captivating set that didn't outstay it's welcome. The audience was left with a feeling of "did that really happen". To this day it remains one of the most memorable live experiences I have ever witnessed. I am sure they all work in Adult Social Care or Customer Services now but for one glorious moment they upstaged about 50 bands at an All-dayer in Guildford.
  4. I believe Peter Hook used a Rickenbacker copy on the Joy Division records. So when he upgraded for New Order, Basschat rules would have dictated that he wouldn't have been allowed to sell it on here!
  5. Obviously my comment about the triangle is 100% genuine though. That's exactly my sort of ting.
  6. A lot of silly claims with members pretending to have played bass on Blurred Lines. I can confirm it was me who played triangle on that recording. Lead triangle!
  7. Standard on all Gretsch hollowbody guitars and basses.
  8. Touch down here too. As seen on the Basschat Instagram page...
  9. Dan sold me a bass body. Solid communications, item as described and all within the spirit of a top Basschat transaction.
  10. Will "Dub" Jones in The Coasters did some really low vocals on stuff like “Yakety Yak,” “Charlie Brown” and “Along Came Jones.” - "Don't talk back!"
  11. Just for the two or three members wondering, the Basspirate threads have all been merged on here, which is why the duplicate posts are no longer showing.
  12. 70s reissue model. I had one of these in the 90s and kept it right up until internet Bass forums / GAS took off around 2005. Great basses.
  13. At the risk of giving you far more than you need, his girlfriend went with him! We all wanted to use the loo / mirror prior to going on and couldn't get in. Spinal Tap, eat your heart out!
  14. Having spent 15yrs on the Americana / Alt.country scene, I returned to play on the rock circuit at the start of 2019. My band definitely has a bit of swagger and adds the "roll" to the mix but we have played with some full on rock bands. I find the scene is harder in the sense that there are so many bands, where as more niche scenes like Rockabilly, Americana etc it is easier to stand out as there are fewer acts on the circuit. Whether playing in the midlands or north or going out to Europe we have seen some absolute comedy gold - one Italian bass player was lifting his bass in the air and punching it with the side of his fist. I didn't ever imagine I would see that, especially in 2019! He ran off stage to then go to the toilet for a lengthy number 2 the second he got off stage! I've never seen so much headbanging, fists in the air, two hand tapping and screaming. I grew up listening to Johnny Thunders so none of this is strictly my bag but there's definitely still a market for it and people seem to enjoy it. Fair play to them. I'm having more fun on this circuit not quite fitting in then I did on the more poe-faced niche scenes I have played on.
  15. And within the confines of this thread, she's up there with Miles Davis!
  16. As it's Remembrance Sunday, I thought I'd share this recording of an old 19th Century Shaker song that was sung in the trenches of WWI. It's set to some old footage from the Battle of the Somme. We're not the first rock band to give it a rock edge but hadn't heard the other versions prior to our release (we have now). Here's what it originally sounded like. My Great Grandfather was shot and killed by a German sniper during that battle, resulting in my Grandfather growing up never having met his father.
  17. Aside the Ric 4000, I just like the dot inlays as they look less bling than the full 4001 / 4003. I have the 4003s and it has a similar vibe, just with the extra pickup. Today I like Little Mix just a little more (not a joke), I play along with my stepdaughter's music for the easy win!
  18. Interesting Funkle. I had the butterscotch one and it was one of my main players for a long time. Sold it on when I came into some money and decided I could justify expensive kit but recently bought the white version. The butterscotch one was quite light and as per that review - the white version is great but definitely much heavier.
  19. 80s Fender Japan had a GREAT reputation so as long as it is priced fairly, should be fine.
  20. I have the Ampeg practice amp and the Orange practice amp, albeit the size down from your list for both. Both have line out sockets so you can plug a phone / laptop / iPod in and play along AND both have headphone jack sockets so you can go pretty loud without causing any issues. Both are light and portable. I got custom covers for both mine so I can go to friend's houses to jam. Both of mine have built in tuners too which are quite useful. Visually I prefer the Orange tolex but despite personally preferring my larger Orange rigs, the Ampeg was easier to find a range of good tones. The Orange sounds good too but I had to play around with the settings to find a tone I really liked. My default is I use the Orange all the time now and the Ampeg is upstairs and I have been too lazy to sell it on. Can't really help with the other stuff, except that my friend who used to run the local guitar shop stocked a lot of Laney stuff and it didn't sound anywhere near as good. This was 15yrs ago though so they may have upped their game since.
  21. My only BR OCD is other bassists assuming they can use my bass rig without asking or first putting drinks on my amp on stage. I don't personally care about clip on tuners being left on headstocks or whether people's cables do / don't match. Reading this I think it's fair to say that we are all going to be guilty of doing *something* that other bassists don't approve of! I guess you just do your thing and if people like it, then great.
