What was the band? I'll ask. -
Which drummer you would like to have played with?
Cat Burrito replied to Bassman Sam's topic in General Discussion
The two drummers in my main two bands are both exceptional - one is Chris who played with Mega City Four in the 90s so spent 10yrs at pro level. They are both such a pleasure to play with that I don't fantasise about other drummers now. I feel very lucky. -
Chinese New Year 2021 -- The Year Of The Ox
Cat Burrito replied to Chezz55's topic in General Discussion
I nearly made the same good for metal comment, although for that to be strictly true I'd have to be have been born either today or in 1961 - 1962 according to that chart. I'm good for water, apparently, which doesn't have quite the same ring. -
Chinese New Year 2021 -- The Year Of The Ox
Cat Burrito replied to Chezz55's topic in General Discussion
Interesting, I didn't know it was Year of the Ox. I was born in '73 so fall under the same sign; 1925 January 24, 1925 – February 12, 1926 Wood Ox 1937 February 11, 1937 – January 31, 1938 Fire Ox 1949 January 29, 1949 – February 16, 1950 Earth Ox 1961 February 15, 1961 – February 4, 1962 Metal Ox 1973 February 3, 1973 – January 22, 1974 Water Ox 1985 February 19, 1985 – February 8, 1986 Wood Ox 1997 February 7, 1997 – January 27, 1998 Fire Ox 2009 January 26, 2009 – February 13, 2010 Earth Ox 2021 February 12, 2021 – January 31, 2022 Metal Ox -
Another big fan of Girl. I was never much of a heavy metal fan but I do like some hard rock, especially glam and I thought Sheer Greed was something of a lost classic LP.

I don't want to detract from issues around missing band life (gigs, rehearsals, studio etc) or the impact on people's livelihood in a lot of cases but just wondering how this has impacted on people's actual playing? I miss playing louder with real musicians but have been practicing much more regularly over the last year or so. Mostly with records or playing along with streaming services / videos. I have looked at a couple of different styles and even touched briefly on some simple keyboards for the first time. I can't wait to return to playing with people but it's not been without a couple of positives in these very dark times. How about the rest of you? Similar stories or is your bass gathering dust?

Fitting a right hand ledge or holder to a pickguard?
Cat Burrito replied to TJ1's topic in General Discussion
I have the zero mod one on my Rickenbacker. I don't recall it being so expensive but I would have thought it would solve the problem of not wanting to drill holes. Also if you don't get on with it, I would imagine it would keep most of the resale value if you need to sell it on. If it is going to solve a problem with a bass you like $40 doesn't sound like a huge amount in the grander scheme of things. -
^^This^^ My answer would be, it changes regularly which is why I like to have the collection.

My Epi Pro sold really quickly. As much as I loved the chrome pickups it was twice the weight of my Gibson and the Epiphone didn't sound as good. I wish Gibson would do a (cheap and easy to install) chrome pickup cover for my bass then I would have best of both worlds.

I really wish the makers would put the binding around the F holes too. It looks amazing but that would really make this sing for me. I'm already interested.

Westone Raider (Who's in a Glam Rock band?)
Cat Burrito replied to Maude's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
His band is fantastic and they're all really nice blokes too. I think Andy is a bit, ahem, odd but Michael, Sami and Nasty are all really down to earth. Sami particularly has done a lot to promote bass and does a really interesting series called Sound Tracker where he looks at music from around the world. Over the years he's played with a range of cool people and is probably my bass idol. I would rather have had his career than some of the bigger names. -

1 x 15 & 2 x 10 in a stack, will there be issues?
Cat Burrito replied to Gray C's topic in Amps and Cabs
Just seen this thread. I run my Orange 4x10 with an Orange 1x15. Never had any problems at all. I've changed the head since this photo to the Orange AD200B and it sounds even better. -
Music for pleasure vs for music viz learning
Cat Burrito replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I pretty much play music I like but lockdown has been a great excuse to learn stuff I'd never buy. I have been jamming along with pop videos from the last 10yrs, 80s electronica and a whole host of bands that aren't strictly "my bag". Whatever you are doing, the important thing is to keep it fun. -
As the owner of a massive Orange rig, I'd be giving people headaches with those colour choices!

Hats AND waistcoats. No music stands... I guess even I have to draw the line somewhere!

I have both a bezel and the zero mod thumbrest on mine. Ironically my band calls for mostly pick playing these days. I like playing a Rickenbacker bass with a plectrum, ideally with a clip on headstock tuner, so I can guarantee that at least 75% of players online will be irritated! 😀

Rickysounds.co.uk bank transfer?
Cat Burrito replied to THISISDINOSAUR's topic in General Discussion
Now you can join all the Rickenbacker groups on social media where an embarrassingly high number of bassists get disproportionately upset as to whether to keep or remove the USA flag sticker! Whatever you do, they are great fun basses and hopefully you'll get years of enjoyment from it. -
I practice standing, sat on the bed or sat on the sofa. More often this year it's sat on the sofa but I tend to vary it. I have been playing more than ever during this lockdown.

Rickysounds.co.uk bank transfer?
Cat Burrito replied to THISISDINOSAUR's topic in General Discussion
I've used them a few times for parts and they are very well respected. He's not going anywhere so I would be surprised if he would try and rip a customer off. All the Rickenbacker Facebook pages rave about him. As said, I suspect as a small business he's looking to avoid fees. -
How/why do people allow their gear to get in a state?
Cat Burrito replied to TheGreek's topic in General Discussion
Most people I know are really good but there are one or two that are horrific. When I bought my Rickenbacker it was described as immaculate but had a few small chips and knocks in the headstock and at the other end. The seller would have known and we had a chat about what "immaculate" actually meant before I paid him. I also picked up an acoustic for a singer and when the seller got it, it was by far the most bowed neck I have ever seen. Most of my stuff is regularly played and looks as new.
