  1. My favourite site colour matches with my amp.... what's not to love? I have signed up!
  2. I said this on the Orange thread you started but this rig ALWAYS gets positive comments, usually from puzzled bass players who can't understand why it sounds so good. If you turn it on the cat moves!
  3. I remember when Q magazine first came out and they ran an article about how the Rolling Stones were now all in their early 40s, so it asked the question how much longer can they realistically have playing rock n roll?! Times change.
  4. I play in 4 or 5 bands and it has never been a problem. Some of my bands have very loud drummers and guitarists. I also play in some bands where everyone is more sensible too. I tend to raise the cab by putting it on a flight case but my volume (Terror head) is usually well under 5. In some venues I have even been asked to turn DOWN! With the loud bands I don't think I have gone past 7. Obviously I can't speak for others but volume has just never been an issue.
  5. Sorry to read this Stu. Sending you online positivity. There is an undercurrent to your post which says you won't be beaten though.
  6. Beautiful colour scheme & as said repeatedly, those Japanese Squiers are great.
  7. I had a beautiful butterscotch one, light as anything. I just picked up a white blonde one. Lovely neck but much heavier.
  8. I originally had an SP210 cab back around 2011, loved it, got loads of comments but ultimately sold it as I was always always doing kit share gigs so it was a lot of cash to lie idle. I missed it a lot so ahead of a long UK tour in 2019 re-bought the SP212 and did 2 full UK tours with it. I used it with two pro bands and everyone raved about it. My drummer is loud but in bigger venues it all gets mic'd up anyway. Everyone is different but I LOVE Orange & would always recommend them. I now have the OBC115 and OBC410 cabs too but that is as much for the visual at the larger venues. The SP212 still comes out regularly.
  9. I thought I'd posted this here but this is my Fender Precision. Black on black with maple... that's just the strap partially obscuring the body.
  10. I thought all 15 basses were actually owned by one Bassschat member with chronic GAS. That wasn't listed as an option though.
  11. I like to mix it up. The white ties in with the block inlays but the black ties in with the pickup and knobs. I'd alternate between those to keep it fresh. The tort kind of works as an alternative. The black pearl looks a bit too aftermarket for my tastes.
  12. I started on drums when I was 8 because my Dad was an ex-pro drummer and I therefore assumed it would be easy. Surprise surprise the logic of an 8yr old me was highly flawed and it didn't last. At 15 2 friends and I were getting into a crop of new bands and decided we wanted to be in a band of our own. We all saved up for our instruments over the course of a few months. As we saved, my best mate and I used to chop & change as to who would be the bass player (the bassist was generally regarded as the cool one at that point in time). I think being tall and slim meant the bass suited me better and fast forward 32yrs it is still my main instrument of choice. Over the years I have learnt guitar to a reasonable standard and can play mandolin and a few other stringed instruments. Bass seems the most natural and effortless for me and it's usually where I get gigs.
  13. I have them on my P and J basses. That black J is tempting...
  14. Greasey Groove on EBay do them, shipped from Canada. I've bought 3 or 4. Excellent.
  15. It was scratchplate but more recently the Americanisation of our language means pickguard is now the default. I went through a phase about 15yrs ago of buying dozens and recall the change happening around that era.
  16. Pretty much most budget basses are halfway decent these days. In the 80s you could get some real dogs but these days the quality has gone right up. Normally the worst case scenario is just the bass needing a better setup. Add a few mods and you can get usually get a very reasonable instrument.
  17. My Orange Crush practice amp has an aux input for laptop / iPhone and a headphone jack so I can play along with whatever I like. Having grown up in the 80s it still blows my mind that I can do that. Technology moves on... who knew?!
  18. It's trial and error. I went through a phase of putting the heaviest flatwounds I could find on mine but my current Precision has Roundwounds 45-100. I have a 51 tele bass that I will probably stick flats on but I guess it comes down to whatever you are hoping to achieve from that bass. It's amazing how string choice can change the dynamics of the same instrument.
  19. That's actually better, in the sense that at least the Les Paul looks a bit more modern. Ace was playing an early 70s Les Paul with a late 80s Floyd Rose. At least with that design they look like they have tried to meet in the middle.
  20. Not bass but when I saw ex-Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley in the late 80s at the Hammersmith Odeon, he had a Floyd Rose tremolo on his Gibson Les Paul. It was a bit like touching up the Mona Lisa with a sharpie!
  21. He's changed the listing as it wasn't doing that yesterday.
  22. Totally up my street but £2.5k for a (admittedly brilliant) crafted in Japan range is optimistic in the current climate. It'd be cheaper to get a 50s classic vibe & get it resprayed.
  23. Ha! Probably like many I clicked on this thread because I remember the craze. I think I was one of the minority of Basschat members at the time who DIDN'T buy one! But of course I did consider getting one!
