  1. Two many to choose from but a stand out for me is The Carrie Nations from Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.
  2. To be fair, he's not really improved it 😽
  3. It's going to have a cream pickup cover with either a black scratchplate or my black / cream paisley scratchplate. I've read a lot about the Player series on here... it needs a setup but I'm optimistic it'll be killer.
  4. Arrived today, a Players Series P bass that I bought to modify. I love my precision but being as it is the same colour as my Jazz, I thought a good old fashioned black & maple would be a good bet. Early indications are that it is light, well balanced & easy to play. The same can't be said of the cat!
  5. It probably changes to suit my mood but right now I like something with a bit of a punk angle. Not punk as in "can't play" but with that urgency to what is played.
  6. Thanks for all the replies. I'm leaning towards keeping my cabs in the house having read all your comments. Luckily I have a couple of step kids that I can put in the garage instead. Problem solved! 😼
  7. Orange is my main brand of choice and you usually have to dial in a bit of the gain to get any response from the volume. You should however be getting a lot of volume from it for what you are using it for.
  8. 50w solid state bass is not that loud but I have the Vox practice amp (VX50) that when cranked up, it keeps up with a drummer and a guitarist in a 3 piece rock n roll band. Are you playing alone or with musicians?
  9. I may be moving soon and space will be an issue. What are people's thoughts on storing cabs in a garage? They have heavy duty covers and would be off the ground slightly. I have too many to keep in the house and would rather the limited space was reserved for my basses / heads. Any thoughts or experiences?

It works like a 12 string guitar in the sense that there are 2 E strings, 2 A strings etc. So from what you say, you's only be avoiding the 2 Gs.

I'd love an 8 string 4005 but that isn't going to be cheap!
  12. Manufacturers not giving me free kit to use until my next round of GAS. I've been polite and not said anything until now!
  13. I'm coming up 47 in a few weeks but yeah, missed it first time around but saw the film over 20yrs ago. Most of my tastes in art, music and film are older than my years, so yeah, I was happy with the comparison.
  14. Friday night in Lewes and the local paper said "I haven’t come across Last Great Dreamers before, but I like them straight away. Visually they are striking, looking like a Clockwork Orange droog gang who have stumbled across boho chic. Musically they get straight to the point with superbly catchy glam tinged pop punk, stacked with killer riffs and lush vocal harmonies. The songs are immediately engaging, and on stage every band member is really going for it, and you can’t ask much more than that." and then Saturday night was the 100 Club, which was my favourite gig of the decade (although the decade is but 12 days old!)
  15. If you contact Orange direct through the website I've found them to be really quick to reply and helpful. They can give you the official line on how to use their products. I use Orange all the time now and find them perfect for my needs. I must confess I have a total brain freeze when it comes to science so the first whiff of an ohm and I am lost, so I emailed them too about this - jrikx's link is great. I alternate between one and two Orange cabs when using my Terror head and adjust my ohm setting accordingly.
  16. No photos but we played a sold out show in a tiny pub in Acton... the trick to a sold out show at our level seems to be existing club nights in small venues! Anyhow, 14 seconds of video exists of our song "Turn It Up" - Johnny Thunders meets Adam Ant, anybody?
  17. A massive venue that was changed at the last minute to an industrial estate in Milan. The change wasn't really advertised so we pulled 10 people in a venue that could have held 1500.
  18. Pretty much anything old school looking that isn't going to play havoc with my ageing shoulder. i.e. not too heavy!
  19. Pretty much anything old school looking that isn't going to play havoc with my ageing shoulder.
  20. 54 shows, including new territories for me like Italy, Sweden, Norway, Austria and, um, Stoke.
  21. I actually think it's more to do with the combination of what the other players are doing too. My 3 piece is more old school rock 'n' roll and the Jazz doesn't sound so good up against a Getsch type guitar. I'm sure with Jimmy Page or Jimi Hendrix, I would have less of an issue! Or perhaps I just need to play with somebody called Jimmy?!
  22. I prefer the look of Jazz basses but I always found they do get more lost in the mix. I put flats on mine and boost the upper mids BUT they don't work well in stripped back bands like 3 pieces. Better in a bigger band set up, in my humble opinion.
  23. I played my band to the young newbie girl at work, who clearly liked her rock. "Old school" she said. "nah," I replied, "we're just old!"
