  1. I nearly went with that very same example. My cousin is from Texas and she came over here in 1983 with Pyromania and introduced a 10yr old me to rock music. It sold something like 6 million copies which is huge but yet eclipsed by the later sales of Hysteria. None of my friends at school had heard of them but by the time Animal came out in the summer of '87 they were a household name. A very different story back in the US.
  2. @LukeFRC, I can only apologise for the bizarre turn your thread has taken! Something's afoot!
  3. Good write up. I was looking at these this week and liked what I heard. I love the Orange brand and was tempted but as a very occasional effects user went with a Big Muff bass pedal. I'm still curious on one of these further down the line though.
  4. My feet have slightly more specialist requirements than the current range at Tescos!
  5. I get a lot of clothes online. I had no idea I was quite so decadent!?!
  6. Always worth going into settings and adjusting your email settings. I'm still scarred by the 16 emails I got over some socks I once bought. One notably referred to my "customer journey" for these socks. Nice socks, mind you!?
  7. I was a massive fan of the Seymour Duncan Antiquity range and it always struck me as a marked improvement on the stock Fender pickup.
  8. I own 7 main basses and 6 were bought online. They usually require a setup to suit my tastes but if you do a bit of research, it's no worries. Thinking about the 7th was an online ad but a cash on collection deal so I tried it when I bought it. Worst case scenario, if you get one you don't like, just send it back.
  9. I've always subscribed to the opinion that if it is your instrument, do whatever makes you happy. Plus those signature models are just a marketing ploy. I am sure Adam Clayton or Steve Harris won't mind if somebody in Stoke has changed a pickguard!
  10. New Wave of Old School?!
  11. MODERATOR ACTION: I wasn't happy with some of the posts here so this thread has been tidied up. It looked a bit unnecessarily heated in places and I would remind anyone not sure to familiarise yourselves with forum rules. Not all the posts I hid were contentious but if they refered to the disagreement or PMs, I hid them. No formal action to any members at this stage but this got a little out of hand for a "For Sale" thread, and knowing the members involved, you're all better than that.
  12. It doesn't come up in the majority of music I play or listen to but there have been a couple of recordings over the years where I have used the technique. It seems crazy to ridicule any technique (the pick vs fingers debate always makes my eyes roll!) when you are better off having more skills to make you a better player. I do wonder if a lot of it stems from when we first learnt to play. I recall going into music shops, having semi mastered the most rudiment of Ramones bass lines to try some budget bass, only to be "treated" to a slap masterclass by the shop assistant just prior to handing me the bass, whilst simultaneously looking down his nose at me - usually before I had even plucked my first string! Not a fair reflection on the technique but I was probably scarred by that for a fair while.
  13. The record company are putting our album out next month. I played bass and co-produced it. Just a shame we can't tour it! https://www.bucketfullofbrains.net/news/richard-davies-the-dissidents-debut-album-human-traffic-to-be-released-on-june-12th/

👍 I'll have a listen, sounds my kinda stuff

  14. I'm loving these lockdown videos too. That was enjoyable and I found myself watching it twice. We're supposed to be doing one ourselves but it seems to be taking an age to get off the ground.
  15. Black and maple with just a dash of Orange...
  16. Like that Rolling Stones clip etc. Anyone done this and what tips are there for bassists? I have two bands that are going to try this, probably just filming clips on iPhones and wondered what advice there was. I have heard of the iRig that plugs into phones but was probably just going to play via a practice amp.
  17. I can't help but feel that Greco is a tad overpriced. I've seen vintage violin basses cheaper. The mid range Hofners are cheaper and really good. Plus the Squiers are easier to shift if you ever need to sell it on.
  18. Love it! I had two of the Japanese ones and a Squier one, none of which I have kept and it's the only model I regret not keeping.
  19. Welcome to the Red Ric Club! I love that fingerboard! Here's mine which is a bit modded these days;
  20. Yep, I have used mine for roots rock 'n' roll, power pop and 60s style bands. The Mk2 has fixed the issue with the early break up. This is now pretty much exclusively my only head, I would imagine from country to reggae, you'd have no fuss here.
  21. I just think it's impossible to say at the moment. We lost a European tour and our UK tour would have started this week. That one has been rescheduled for October but personally I am not 100% convinced even that is anything other than optimistic. Whatever happens I don't feel the world will ever be quite the same after this.
  22. https://www.amazon.co.uk/BQLZR-Length-Rosewood-Thumbrest-Mounting/dp/B01HSVV6GA There used to be a website for UK Bass thumb rests but he's not operating anymore. Amazon and EBay have a few.
  23. That was my original SP210! The SP212 sounds even better.
