  1. Nice job & great thread Painy. Zilla never replied to my email but did read my Messenger, which they couldn't even be bothered to reply to. Even a "sorry, can't help" type reply would have been something but I'm seriously disappointed with them.
  2. My main bass has changed so many times now that I have no issues swapping any kit out for anything if the deal is good. It's taken a long time to be able to acknowledge this but I have no loyalty when it comes to kit.
  3. and... Seeing them on Thursday in Bristol. Can't wait, although it's a shame we were in the running for the support slot and lost out.
  4. Who's Bill? Is there a link. I'm certainly curious, although still scarred by the memories of the string cutter that I made in woodwork back in 1985!
  5. I owned one of the early Jack Cassady basses, simply because it was the only bass like it on the market at the time. I went as far as to check out his music and it wasn't for me but I did like the bass. Kinda weird to have a signature on the headstock of some guy who's music I didn't much care for.
  6. Mine would magically change every 8 months (according to my GAS) from a Precision to a Hofner to a Ric to a Thunderbird and round again. Said with no pride whatsoever!
  7. Just wondered what experience people had in terms of getting a custom build cab in the UK? Zilla haven't replied to my email (& looking through Basschat, I'm not alone with that). I'm after getting a sleeve for a bass head with some very specific ideas but don't know who strikes the balance best between quality, price and speed of service. Thanks in anticipation.
  8. It took me ages to find it. I knew it existed as I'd posted a fair bit in it but it was definitely squirreled away.
  9. Quite a few bass ones in this thread
  10. Flats on a Precision bass was my default sound for about 15yrs. I agree it's probably worth getting the Fender flats as they are amazing value for money and streets ahead of other Fender strings. People rave about Labella flats and some of the other more costly brands but I thought the Fender ones were amazing and would have paid a lot more for them.
  11. I find the quality of gear in many rehearsal studios highly questionable. Even stuff that I know to be good has simply been ragged to death. I've come in and everything has been on 10 (or perhaps 11?!). It's a balance between dragging down my own kit and sounding how I want or compromising. Often now I bring my head down to plug into their cabs in case it's sounding flat.
  12. No dramas Move along people, nothing to see here 😻
  13. Sorry @stewblack, I didn't think it was a huge issue. Members often comment on prices on other listings. They shouldn't but people do. I edited the comment on a listing being a bargain & rather than a discreet edit, it suddenly popped up with displaying the edit reason. I didn't have you down as one of the bad guys & I'm sorry it made a bigger deal out of it than was intended.
  14. I know it was for charity but (ducks for cover) Band Aid!
  15. I'm 6' 3" (or was, I think I may have shrunk a half inch with age) but slim with it. Funny to see the top 25 musicians in the OP are all actually taller than me. From experience I do think being tall people tend to assume you play bass... but of course there are exceptions to any rule.
  16. Two shows supporting the Wildhearts this week, Wolverhampton and Dover. Wolverhampton was massive (1000 punters) & KK Dowling apparently liked the band. Dover was a 300 capacity but both were great shows. Photo courtesy of Black Velvet Magazine.
  17. My introduction to music was Mum's country, soul and early rock 'n' roll records. Then they had friends with older kids who were into punk bands like The Clash, the Pistols and the Buzzcocks. I was massively into music but didn't think to play. What turned it to me was the 80s Glam / Sleaze scene with bands like Dogs D'Amour, Quireboys, LA Guns & Faster Pussycat. That was when I decided to play bass.
  18. This video and the one from the other thread I posted earlier were but on my band page by a female fan.... make of it what you will! 😻
  19. I'd play bass, no question. It's in my DNA. I started out on drums (aged 😎 and have tried numerous other instruments since playing bass. Bass is where I am comfortable.
  20. I had one during a brief phase of playing guitar about 10yrs back and with 2 telecasters I thought it weighed a tonne. It proved far easier to have two guitar bags and spread the weight. I can only imagine how heavy it would be with basses.
