  1. It took me ages to find it. I knew it existed as I'd posted a fair bit in it but it was definitely squirreled away.
  2. Quite a few bass ones in this thread
  3. Flats on a Precision bass was my default sound for about 15yrs. I agree it's probably worth getting the Fender flats as they are amazing value for money and streets ahead of other Fender strings. People rave about Labella flats and some of the other more costly brands but I thought the Fender ones were amazing and would have paid a lot more for them.
  4. I find the quality of gear in many rehearsal studios highly questionable. Even stuff that I know to be good has simply been ragged to death. I've come in and everything has been on 10 (or perhaps 11?!). It's a balance between dragging down my own kit and sounding how I want or compromising. Often now I bring my head down to plug into their cabs in case it's sounding flat.
  5. No dramas Move along people, nothing to see here 😻
  6. Sorry @stewblack, I didn't think it was a huge issue. Members often comment on prices on other listings. They shouldn't but people do. I edited the comment on a listing being a bargain & rather than a discreet edit, it suddenly popped up with displaying the edit reason. I didn't have you down as one of the bad guys & I'm sorry it made a bigger deal out of it than was intended.
  7. I know it was for charity but (ducks for cover) Band Aid!
  8. I'm 6' 3" (or was, I think I may have shrunk a half inch with age) but slim with it. Funny to see the top 25 musicians in the OP are all actually taller than me. From experience I do think being tall people tend to assume you play bass... but of course there are exceptions to any rule.
  9. Two shows supporting the Wildhearts this week, Wolverhampton and Dover. Wolverhampton was massive (1000 punters) & KK Dowling apparently liked the band. Dover was a 300 capacity but both were great shows. Photo courtesy of Black Velvet Magazine.
  10. My introduction to music was Mum's country, soul and early rock 'n' roll records. Then they had friends with older kids who were into punk bands like The Clash, the Pistols and the Buzzcocks. I was massively into music but didn't think to play. What turned it to me was the 80s Glam / Sleaze scene with bands like Dogs D'Amour, Quireboys, LA Guns & Faster Pussycat. That was when I decided to play bass.
  11. This video and the one from the other thread I posted earlier were but on my band page by a female fan.... make of it what you will! 😻
  12. I'll let you know how I get on... I should be old enough to know better!
  13. I'd play bass, no question. It's in my DNA. I started out on drums (aged 😎 and have tried numerous other instruments since playing bass. Bass is where I am comfortable.
  14. We don't all just stand at the back, y'know!
  15. I had one during a brief phase of playing guitar about 10yrs back and with 2 telecasters I thought it weighed a tonne. It proved far easier to have two guitar bags and spread the weight. I can only imagine how heavy it would be with basses.
  16. The deal's off - it has a broken E string! Read the small print, potential buyers!
  17. As the video isn't embedded in your link, here it is! 😻 I just stumbled upon this on YouTube so was scrolling through Basschat to see if anyone had beaten me to it. You had! The Precision one was excellent so looking forward to this.
  18. I've decided to take legal advice... but if anyone cares to trawl through years of Basschat (2004-2009 was a particularly low point), a number of my sins are all too well documented.
  19. My list would probably look something like this; Elvis Presley – Elvis Presley Sticky Fingers – The Rolling Stones Schools Out – Alice Cooper Young Americans – David Bowie New York Dolls – New York Dolls Give ‘em Enough Rope – The Clash Self-Destruction Blues – Hanoi Rocks In the Dynamite Jet Saloon – The Dogs D’Amour The Fine Art of Self Destruction – Jesse Malin American IV: The Man Comes Around – Johnny Cash
  20. I'm only reading this thread to make myself feel better. Quite frankly I wouldn't know where to start with myself and I certainly couldn't narrow it down to just 3!
  21. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned football songs. I struggle with those at the best of times. I swear I was the only one in the UK who didn't like Three Lions on a Shirt. Gazza's version of Fog on the Tyne was also pretty hard work and as for that Glenn Hoddle track....
  22. As an aside I met Jonathan Ross walking along Oxford Street back in the 90s. I gave him my bands demo tape which he politely took whilst obviously not being at all interested!
  23. I've followed him since '94 so met him a few times (agreed, nice guy). The new record is another peak in his career. He's had the same band for a while. Cat Popper (bass) was with Ryan in the Cardinals. I had a cool chat with her at the Oxford show a couple of months back.
