  1. I'm in (to varying degrees) about 5 bands at present and they are all friends. I won't work with people I can't get on with. I don't earn enough for that! I've done it in the past and life is too short.
  2. I'd contact the manufacturer or have a look on their website. Sometimes you can download the brochure that comes with the amp. My Ampeg PF50t is all valve and you can plug it in for recording direct to the desk - it sounds really good like that too.
  3. Sadly not! 😼
  4. For years we've been trying to lose the drummer's girlfriend... any tips much appreciated!?!
  5. Post hidden for rule breach - trade offers only to be done via PM. If unsure please check the rules in the forum.
  6. Away from my parent's record collection, punk was my first discovery and I played in a few punky bands when I was younger. I think history has been rewritten slightly to imply that all music was poor beforehand and punk was totally fresh - just so long as nobody ever played any 60s Garage bands or the New York Dolls, you could be fooled into believing that! Punk is an attitude and it is still there in so much music. And in business. And in other walks of life. I feel the slightly cartoon-y take on a lot of it today with the identikit bands kind of misses the point. And history should also re-write the Pistols to acknowledge that Glen Matlock was actually way cooler than Sid Vicious.
  7. I picked one up this week. I've reserved posting on it until I can use it in anger but the early indications are very good.
  8. I play in Creedence Clearwater Revival Revial, mostly around Swindon. It was formed as a laugh (the name came from a jokey pub conversation) but we take it really seriously. I probably wouldn't have picked Creedence as my preferred band to do a tribute too but I really enjoyed learning six albums of material and studying those bass parts. It definitely made me a better player, having predominately done 30yrs of originals bands. We have two ex-pro guys in the band too. It sounds nuts but we were actually taken aback when CCR fans started showing up to see us - we really hadn't thought it through! More bizarrely we've had people request for us to do Oasis covers & been told if we want bookings we need to do a few more covers!?!
  9. It is. I had one - great bass and short scale wasn't a problem. The long scale version is the 500/8, which I now own.
  10. I think you could get your birth year bass within that price range and still have money left over to have a cool break somewhere. I went to New York for my 40th and looking back a few years later, I find that preferable to a bass I would have probably sold on at some point.
  11. Having owned a PF500 (twice) & an Orange Terror, I think I'd favour the Terror. Neither's wrong but the Orange is louder and would work well in combination with those cabs.
  12. Who ordered a pudding? Drummer! 😉 Set paused!!! 😣
  13. I think if you play rock or pop you usually have to accept that some bass parts will be pretty easy. Personally as long as I have a moment or two in any set or in any album where I can stretch out a little, I don't mind having a few songs that are relatively simple or repetitive. I guess if I didn't like that I would be playing another instrument or genre.
  14. Did you mean? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1990s-Charvel-Surfcaster-Bass-Guitar-Orange-Flame-/323646496793
  15. I don't know about order of most important but I'd say the 50s is pretty significant because bass went from upright to the bass guitar and this surely was a key player in the birth of rock n roll music going mainstream.
  16. The Sixth Form Pantomine 22nd December 1989. My Glam / Goth band played Dolly Parton's Jolene to a bemused entire school! There were no winners in this scenario beyond the fact that I can lay claim to having started my live career in the 1980s.
  17. I'm the exact opposite. I think because I play work colleagues etc feel that they can't tell me about their tastes in case they get it wrong!?! Music is personal and just because I play doesn't make my preferences any more or less valid than anybody else's.
  18. I think there are loads of choice these days. I was firmly in the big Ampeg stack camp but after 30yrs of playing my Osteopath didn't share my optimism in having another 10yrs of heavy lifting. Everyone on these pages raves about Barefaced & I really like my Aguilar cab. I don't know who is best but certainly the choice is must wider now than it ever used to be.
  19. 2018 with a bit of modification 😈
  20. I think perspective is the key. The vast majority behave impeccably here with just one or two moments of silliness.
  21. Super cool. Probably going to take this on my European Tour next month. It just screamed rock 'n' roll to me. 😺
  22. Growing up, I was pretty clued up about everything from David Bowie to the Rolling Stones. I think I had a pretty good musical education. I actively sought out stuff that was supposed to be classic so knew Led Zeppelin, a lot of punk and Motown etc. I never liked grunge so Nirvana's Nevermind was never part of my musical vocabulary and Jeff Buckley's Grace didn't do it for me. It wasn't until my mid 20s that I discovered Curtis Mayfield and my 30s that I got into The Band, both of whom I love.
  23. I won't be able to afford anything else this year so perhaps if a yellow card could be put on my file, I can start afresh
  24. I'd missed this thread which probably explains why on the evening of January 1st I ordered an Ebony Thunderbird
  25. I don't worry about it. Things move in cycles. I haven't kept up but this week everyone's talking about the Bros documentary so I feel back in the know!
