  1. The retro stylings of Eastwood's bass range are surely reflected in Nissan's 1991 modern classic, the Figaro?
  2. Um, Thunderbird - Thunderbird
  3. Damn, I'm too old & I suspect I'll be dead before he grows up
  4. My 80s went something like this...
  5. My main band CaseHardin took their name from a serial killer in Boston Terrain's book God is a Bullet. The Jimmy Sixes is an engine part & we just thought it sounded cool. Creedence Clearwater Revival Revival we just thought was funny & to be honest we just formed the band around the name from a jokey pub conversation.
  6. Even if it was my dream band, I would never audition for a band advertising for a base player. It's just a principle thing - if you can't spell the instrument, you sure as hell won't respect the role!
  7. I spent 28yrs of a 30yr playing career with no pedals. Recently I have been using them. They are fun to have but not essential. They do sound good though. The best improvement to your sound is practice though.
  8. My first instrument was drums (as a kid & I was terrible) but I started seriously learning guitar around 2004. It helped me massively and I have played lead in a couple of bands. I'm currently exclusively bass across all my bands at present but the guitar definitely gets you thinking with a different side of your brain. Even if it isn't your favourite instrument it is definitely worth having some knowledge around.
  9. I've been a Kiss fan for over 30 years and Gene does this to get a rise. I saw the article and wondered how long it would be before someone shared it. Thankfully with good humour too! There are plenty out there that are quick to bash Gene, but then he does set himself up for this.
  10. Very cool pictures. I have pics of my Dad in the 60s where he was drumming around Portsmouth / Southsea area. I'll save them for Drumchat!
  11. It's what I use and it's the best practice amp I've owned.
  12. There's every chance! I'm afraid that I can be a bit of a cowboy when it comes to repairs so I'm sure this would explain this one! I can manage simple stuff like swapping pickguards, changing strings etc but some bigger jobs definitely need a more professional touch.
  13. I think the reality is what you think you'll like sometimes disappoints and what you weren't too excited about occasionally blows you away.
  14. That chrome plating was sorely missed on mine - loads of hum when I took it off so it went straight back on. Mine's a 2nd hand 4003 that wasn't the best looked after so that could be a factor.
  15. Just had my 1st unrequested slap bass demo in at least 20yrs, when asking to try a bass in Dawsons. For the record, I've not missed those!

So Cat, did you buy it?

@discreet Sadly good sellers, you know those asking questions, are quite rare and have always been. We only get those label readers talking only for themselves and they seem to ignore the fact that they are simply useless. The worst of all being certainly the car (re)sellers : they never ask you a single question and talk about things we don't give a s**t. It takes only 5 seconds to know if the seller is a good one or another arrows shooter.

@Happy Jack I need to see how things lie at home first but a good salesman could have seen me buy it and worry about the former later on.

  16. Except when you take the pickup cover off of a Ric it is noisy as hell. The Fender ones are more cosmetic but that Ric one definitely has a purpose. Funny comment though
  17. I think I've relaxed in recent years but for me it would be a mix of A drummer who unloads his cases in front of the bass amp so I can't set up (he's finished but can't be bothered to move them!) A guitarist who spends ages in soundcheck but then when I hit more than 3 notes tells me to hurry up People not learning songs when others (me!) have put the time in A singer in another band not seeming to want to return to any venues that aren't Madison Square Gardens! Probably first world problems and generally I am pretty lucky with all my bands.
  18. I did for years as I liked the look. When I say years I mean at least 15yrs. More recently I've taken them off and yes it is a little easier to play but I always adapted before.
  19. I'm sure my cowboy like ways will horrify some of you but I bought a white paint pen cheap on Amazon and just gently dabbed over the old dots. It looks alright to me.
  20. I have 5 pickguards for my Precision and I chop & change them according to my mood. It also really helps reduce GAS.
  21. My singer is well read and writes a lot of story songs about down trodden characters. There is occasionally the odd swear word and thankfully my 9yr old step daughter is on hand to pick him up on how naughty he is being!
  22. I'm just in the process of doing an entire album with my Sansamp - arguably the best bass sound I've ever had!
  23. My Jump Blues / Rockabilly 3 piece just sees the guitarist going through the PA via a multi effects unit using some slapback echo. I plug my bass guitar through the PA direct and only use an amp for the upright. It sounds fine. To be honest if we had an extra channel I'd gladly stick the upright bass through the PA too.
