  1. Gentlemen, I can't help but admire your brickwork! I'm 2nd left circa 1994.
  2. Giving my age away but this... I'm sure the forced happiness inadvertently inspired the Goth movement!
  3. I play in a CCR tribute called Creedence Clearwater Revival Revival. It formed largely as a jokey conversation down the pub but we take it pretty seriously now. Two of the band are ex-pro (Chris the drummer was in Mega City Four and Richard the guitarist had some success with the Britpop era). Most of us do other bands but it's very much a social thing.
  4. When you consider it is a business selling and they are going to milk The Pretenders link, sadly it isn't overpriced - just overpriced to about 99.9% of potential buyers! (but yeah, a bit of a stretch when you consider Nick isn't from the classic line up)
  5. I'm in a couple of local bands but my main act are based from just outside Swindon to South London. We meet in High Wycombe, which for me is an hour away.
  6. Just to rival this, John Paul Jones recognised the singer in my band. He did reply, "shouldn't this be the other way around?"
  7. Probably a million things that sound impressive to those on the outside but actually achieved little - from playing the O2 in London to being featured on Prime time CBS TV in the US. To be fair I was happy when we first had an LP pressed on vinyl and back when I played London's Marquee. Getting to play bass on a session for Total Guitar magazine was also pretty cool too.
  8. Moderator Action: merged into existing thread
  9. Presumably new products to come (not that I need any more Ampeg gear, as I'm sure my wife would agree)
  10. Many years ago (early 90s) Live at The Marquee. We went to obscurity after the show! (in case you haven't grasped that this is Basschat, I'm on the bass - one would hope that didn't need pointing out!?).
  11. I definitely looked the part - I did miss the part with the £10m beach hideaway however... unless by £10m beach hideaway you mean getting signing on and going back to a grotty bedsit?! In which case, I can tick that box 100%!
  12. The strap button was moved by Gibson on my 2013 Thunderbird and it balances perfectly. Not quite sure why it took them so many years to work that one out but needless to say the problem is no more on my bass. Enjoy your bass. I love mine
  13. Don't fret, Eric!
  14. A lot of my heroes were only in cult bands and never "made it" in the sense of being massive. I love the Stones but I'm not selling a kidney, just to get a ticket that has me standing 1/2 mile away, surrounded by a load of disinterested people watching the show through their iPhones. if you are making music, inspiring people and can keep going, this is success in my eyes. This can be done at club or Arena level or even working sessions.
  15. You'll all feel pretty stupid - I've just seen it says "100% authentic" so there's nothing to worry about after all
  16. In my rock 'n' roll band we use Elvis mics but this is very much an aesthetic thing.
  17. Nice. I was hovering over that but space at home was a factor.
  18. The retro stylings of Eastwood's bass range are surely reflected in Nissan's 1991 modern classic, the Figaro?
  19. Um, Thunderbird - Thunderbird
  20. Damn, I'm too old & I suspect I'll be dead before he grows up
  21. My 80s went something like this...
  22. My main band CaseHardin took their name from a serial killer in Boston Terrain's book God is a Bullet. The Jimmy Sixes is an engine part & we just thought it sounded cool. Creedence Clearwater Revival Revival we just thought was funny & to be honest we just formed the band around the name from a jokey pub conversation.
  23. Even if it was my dream band, I would never audition for a band advertising for a base player. It's just a principle thing - if you can't spell the instrument, you sure as hell won't respect the role!
  24. I spent 28yrs of a 30yr playing career with no pedals. Recently I have been using them. They are fun to have but not essential. They do sound good though. The best improvement to your sound is practice though.
  25. My first instrument was drums (as a kid & I was terrible) but I started seriously learning guitar around 2004. It helped me massively and I have played lead in a couple of bands. I'm currently exclusively bass across all my bands at present but the guitar definitely gets you thinking with a different side of your brain. Even if it isn't your favourite instrument it is definitely worth having some knowledge around.
