  1. The Liquifier sounds like it has huge potential as a future purchase for me. The Opto Comp looks pretty cool too. Has anyone tried one yet? Or have any interest? Or know when they hit the shops here?
  2. Kevin, I hope you don't mind but I just edited the title as the word plectrum was missing a "T" in the title. I'm not trying to make an issue of it, it's just it is showing as me having edited it and I wanted you to know that it was nothing more sinister than a missing letter re-added. First time I've done it, next time I'll add the reason so as not to draw attention to it. Move along people, nothing to see here!
  3. My Upright bass was the longest, about 8 days but they did a set up too. The smaller items tend to be a few days and never more than a week.
  4. Does it come with a Sony Walkman and will I get it in my Mini Metro?
  5. I love my 50s P-bass (mine's Japanese though but I love the look of those lacquered ones). I've found the worst thing about buying online is often something that can be fixed with a decent set up and even then it usually doesn't even come to that. I like the look of the 50s bass in black
  6. It does and I flight cased mine! It looks and sounds great but perhaps not my finest decision.
  7. The Ampeg Portaflex stuff is great. People still bring up the initial run of the PF500 heads going wrong (which was corrected years ago) but this was never even an issue with anything else from this range. I still have an old PF500 as my backup head. I'd looked at the PF800 as my upgrade but opted for the PF50T when that was released because 1) I liked the all tube nature of it and 2) the aesthetics of it appealed. To be fair most stuff these days is pretty good but if you like the Ampeg PF range, I kinda think your mind is made up.
  8. Packs of the CR2032 batteries are also cheap as chips on Amazon and EBay. Not sure why Tesco can't do better here.
  9. Not only are D'addario makers of my favourite string but they win extra kudos from me for having environmentally responsible packaging. These things are important to me.

Until their staff have all signed off on a commitment to never use wet wipes as a substitute for toilet paper again, I'm not convinced that they are truly serious about protecting the environment.

You can not wipe your bum with a signature on electronic paper.  Sorry.

  10. No, although he did too and probably more high profile. Dylan came to a few Clash shows and, Mick Jones aside, Paul Simonon actually played on Dylan's dreadful 1988 Down in the Groove LP too.
  11. For me it isn't pride, it's just stating that I haven't particularly kept up. I was never really one to follow the latest fashions but more of a statement than a celebration of my ignorance. I would also suggest that whilst it is sad to see musicians being ignorant of modern music, there is something sadder when you get older people trying to be "down wiv da kids". My eldest was laughing at me with my wife the other day because I had said I liked an act but wouldn't buy it... his point was "who buys music these days? ANy response from me is simply me being comfortable with myself and where I am at this stage in life.
  12. Looking at the headstock in that photo, it's actually a rack tom for starters!
  13. It hasn't hit my radar in years. Is it still Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood?
  14. Bob Dylan co-wrote Waiting for the Morning Light with Kiss bassist Gene Simmons (on Simmon's 2nd solo album). Dylan also had Mick Jones from the Clash in his touring band at one point.
  15. I'm assuming you just did a small surface area initially rather than the whole pickup? Duct tape and patience would should get you back on track.
  16. A tip for the OP - Very light surface rust can be removed by gently rubbing the screw head (or other chrome part) with a dry brillo pad.
  17. Gene Simmons too. Sid Vicious released "Sid Sings" but I think that was debateable on many levels!
  18. Ironically I only got poor service and condescension when I did look like I'd fallen out of Guns 'N' Roses.
  19. The worst for me is the snidey, disinterested and condescending attitude often offset with someone slapping the bass that I've asked to try for ages before handing it to me. Thankfully what was a constant in my teens and early 20s never happens now I am middle aged.
  20. I've done it. I was still sort of enjoying it, just not as much as I used to. I had nothing new to go to but was involved in other bands. That one was earning a fair bit through the band I left but I haven't regretted it and I still look back fondly on the time I was in that band. So for me it was the right decision and we all stayed friends.
  21. If they are going to be like that I'd have flipped to Bb for the solo, just to make him look bad!
  22. I'm another one seeing The Damned on tour, but for me it's Bristol. As much as I love Elvis and the Stones I try and keep up with some of these younger groups!
  23. I've had two and I regret selling both (the only basses I do miss!). The Squier version is also really good (the reason why I sold no. 2) and was actually my main player for years. I can't imagine me not owning a 3rd Fender one before the end of time.
  24. At the risk of lowering the tone, I'm seeing the Dead Boys in Birmingham on Friday
