I never used to use pedals and I use this one. All the time.
And how do people package them up safely to post?
I buy a fair bit of vinyl online (EBay and Amazon) and the standard seems to be card with card card inserts to reinforce the packaging. The going rate for posting a record seems to be about £3.50. Some people tend to have these already made card record packages and others seem to secure the record within some cardboard, DIY style. Most mark them as fragile or do not bend but some sellers (a minority) seem to apply a reverse physiology.

Thunderbird pickup replacement (MOJO pickups)
Cat Burrito replied to police squad's topic in Bass Guitars
You can buy the chrome pickup covers and rings on the net. They're not that expensive (£10-15 or so, IIRC)
Do you have any links? I'd heard nothing quite fits right on the Gibsons if you go down that route. I'd love to be able to prove that wrong. -
My first bass had a glossy neck, as did the next couple, so it actually has become a requirement for me when buying a bass. I get the satin finish idea but it just feels wrong to me when I play them, it feels unfinished.

Punters wanting to talk to you when you're playing.
Cat Burrito replied to Les's topic in General Discussion
I lean towards telling them it's a great song (even if it isn't), going on to explain we have yet to learn it (assuming it isn't coming up later - usually not though as I don't work the cover band circuit) and get the next song started asap to cut short any conversation. Unfortunately as drunk people are unpredictable this only works in about 70% of cases. -
It is a bit though, isn't it?! Best way is that everyone shares a giggle and gets on with it within a beat or two. Don't try and hide it, make it a bit of fun that the audience are in on.
To be fair, I don't make (too) many mistakes and we all do it to each other. I think there's a difference between being nasty and being a bit silly. If my comment was *that* serious I wouldn't have been playing with the same guys for over 8 years.
had a lead guitarist once who would not just glare at somebody else but go into a a complete rant at them in between songs and off stage after the gig whenever he made a mistake, sometimes even the following week at rehearsals after one of his mates had given him some poor feedback about the gig - no matter what he did wrong it was always somebody else's fault. One day he chose the wrong band member to pick on, being the drummer in both the bands that he was in at the time, who responded by telling him not to bother coming to any more rehearsals for either bands because he was sacked.
A glare is cheeky but that takes it too far. Serves him right.

The best way to cover any mistake is to look disapprovingly at a random band mate and hey presto, the audience thinks they are the one who messed up. Works every time!

Happy birthday. I'm 44 and it does start to speed up... not that I want to ruin the surprise!

500w head and cab suggestions. Tech 21 VT 500?
Cat Burrito replied to TNLBass's topic in Amps and Cabs
I run the Ampeg PF50T but was looking at that Tech 21 head as a back up - I was put off by a few reviews saying it was especially noisy and I wondered if this was why so few UK shops stock it. So in the end I picked up an Ampeg PF500. The early ones didn't last but this glitch seemed quickly fixed. Combined with an Ampeg Portaflex cab it sounds great. -
What's the gig scene like round Lewes (East Sussex)
Cat Burrito replied to RichardH's topic in General Discussion
I've played in a couple of times as part of tours and it was great. We did an instore at the local record shop and played the Con Club, both very well attended. -
I've own both a Gibson & have an Epi as a knockabout. My Epiphone was / is listed on here but I never bumped the thread as I seem to play it so much (plus I prefer having the cheaper one on display because it's no drama if the kids or cats knock it over). T-birds don't seem to have the resale value of Fenders but the through neck construction gives you an amazing bottom end that I never had in 20 years of Fender playing. The higher end Epi with the through neck and Gibson pickups is, in my mind, comparable with a high end MIM or CIJ Fender. Even the entry level Epi T-bird with the cheaper pickups and bolt on neck is a lot of fun. Sure my Gibson is superior but like with all bass kit, costing 5 times as much doesn't mean it is five times better.

I must, must, must like the music we're playing. Nobody who gets on my nerves over the course of a rehearsal / gig. People who can play something at least halfway decent and are prepared to learn the parts. Reliable people. Not afraid to buy the occasional drink at the bar. Professional attitude towards the band.
Which is odd because it has been posted before and in this very section.
As a forum moderator I click on far more posts then I would if I wasn't moderating & I missed it. "Sound on Sound Article" isn't the most revealing of topic headers to be fair. I'm pleased it was posted again as I really enjoyed it and even took time to share it with several friends.
Well worth 35 minutes of your time. I know there's a special section for 'Recording'. I felt this deserved a wider audience.
Couldn't agree more on both these points. I'd love to record at Sugar Rays. Cheers for sharing, I hadn't seen this.

When I've been on a shift pattern I've booked the gigs so it meant I didn't feel bad when I was offered clashes. After 8 years I'm just going back to 1 weekend in 4 so I'd best raise my game again.

Unbelievably, people are still trying to defend the 80s.
Cat Burrito replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
I'm just pleased my school photos weren't heavily featured on social media! I'd have a lot of explaining to do! -
My current P-bass and my original are CIJ. I've owned several in the past and the QC has been more consistent than the MIM and USA ones I've owned (to be fair only one weak USA one but the point is these are great).

No brain for bass? MH issues and playing
Cat Burrito replied to GreeneKing's topic in General Discussion
This reads as a really open and heart felt post. I'm sure you are not alone in what you have shared. I think many of us can relate to at least some aspects from this too. -
Playing AC/DC songs in a different key - Do they work?
Cat Burrito replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
I play in a CCR tribute and some of those songs are a struggle in the original key for our singer. I learn something up in E just to get to the rehearsal and be told we're doing this in C. Personally I opted for playing higher up the neck. Most people are listening to the vocal and I would rather that was right than the bass part was in the right key. 5 string or down tuning are both viable alternatives and I think it's just a case of whatever works for you. Does the singer sound great in a different key though or might you want to think about somebody better? Our guy totally delivers in the keys he picks so it wasn't a difficult decision to adjust the band to fit. -
I love the Tech 21 Sansamp VT pedal and could absolutely just manage with this. To be fair this pedal aside I only really occasionally use a bit of chorus and a tuner pedal so there isn't a big list of things for me to do without.

What period/style of music inspired you to start playing?
Cat Burrito replied to TheGreek's topic in General Discussion
Mum's old LP records of country music, 60s soul and old 50s rock n roll probably kickstarted my interest in music as a small boy. However it was the short lived Glam / Sleaze scene of the 80s that inspired me to actually start saving for my first instrument. I've probably spent most of my playing career trying to get back to those roots of the first records I've heard, whilst still having a soft spot for the guys who made me want to play too. -
Whats the longest you've had a bass for?
Cat Burrito replied to OliverBlackman's topic in Bass Guitars
I had my 57ri Fender P-bass for 19yrs and still have it's pickup and pickguard.
