1. People get enjoyment in many ways and because you like one thing it doesn't mean you can't enjoy something else. I suspect that is why the question hasn't been asked before...
2. Was it the same backline across the 3 bands? At the height of my GAS I had 6 P-basses and they all sounded like me in the mix of a band playing but subtly different if compared to one another.
3. My lot roll into Staines tomorrow night if anyone fancies a bit of Americana based swagger down at the Riverside Club. Here's a recent clip from our performance at the O2's Country to Country festival.
4. I view charity as a personal matter (I privately donate to carefully screened charities) and not one for my bands to get involved in. Sadly there are too many people who take advantage and money goes missing etc. I've heard horror stories of 50% cuts and all sorts. It might be business as said but when bar staff are getting paid, landlords are getting a regular flow of drinking punters and the bands are getting no soundcheck, no thanks and being ordered to share kit, I will pass. Been there, done that.
5. I played Hemel back in the 90s... and I'm not just showing off, I really did! And it was the White Hart too. Great venue. This ain't no dress rehearsal, this is the big time!
6. I used to be an idealist and think you had to like every song... now I think you can have one or two in a set that you are not so keen on. It's a compromise with band mates after all. Having always done originals bands, until a few years back - I found that I liked learning and studying other players, getting paid better and having a crowd go mad. It's a balance though - I'm 30yrs in and have never played Sex on Fire. No problem with the song, just not for me. Mustang Sally I'd probably do but it has never come up within any band I've played in. I think I like to try things before I decide it is definitely not for me.
7.
If you've already got the two cabs and they sound good together there is a case to be made for not overthinking things!
I'm all up for not overthinking things (PS good post - I actually followed that!)
8. It's not impossible but you limit your options. I didn't learn to drive until I was 24 so I was always reliant on keen band members to help me out. I think if you are not driving you should make sure you are pulling your weight in other areas because driving to and particularly from gigs is a pain. It's not an automatic "no" but anyone wanting to audition for one of my bands immediately gets us thinking about how realistic the logistics are. Rehearsals are easy enough but gigs where you need your amp can be harder.
9. Thanks Dave. I have a picture of a bassist upstairs who is playing a 1x15 with 4x10 combination but had read the same re speaker size. I may yet switch the 1x15 for a 2x10 so I have the option of 2,4 or 6x10 depending on the venue but for now it works well. I also emailed Ampeg's support service and they were almost but not quite as quick as Mark to reply.
10.
8 + 8 equals 4 :-) you're fine
Thanks, I find your confidence reassuring - I don't need to get why, just that I am not going to damage anything. Out of interest should the head be switched to 8 ohm or 4 ohm? I'm thinking it should be on 8.
11. I'm the least technical or science-y person I know and I am just about confusing myself further than ever now. I have an Ampeg PF50t head (50w all tube into 4 or 8 ohm, apparently). I have been playing it into a cab from the same series, the PF115HE which is 450w RMS at 800w (typed as if I actually know what that means!). Recently I have been wanting to add a second cab, particularly as I like the sound of 8x10 cabs and I picked up a PF410HLF, again from the same series. There is one input out the back of the head but I know you can daisy chain between the two cabs. It certainly sounded good in the kitchen - loud too! Watching various videos on YouTube I am getting confused as to whether this could damage the amp in any way or is a good idea. Googling around it does rather seem like a 2x10 paired with a 4x10 would be a more obvious pairing than the 4x10 with a 1x15 but I was hoping someone could clarify in the simplest of terms whether I could damage any kit here or if it is fine as is. It certainly sounded good but I am an absolute rank amateur when it comes to the technical side of kit. Thanks in anticipation.
12. When I had cancer back in 2009 I was signed off work for 3 months but had a gig 10 days after surgery - the Doc described the gig as "a good idea" as it would "help aid recovery". I couldn't argue
13. I can rival the Micra with my ex-wife's VW Fox. No problem. Just go a bit careful as you said.
14. I had flats on mine and it sounded great. I put them on a Rickenbacker too. We need to stop having rules for music.
15. I'm more with Charic in terms of how I read this (& Finn Dave who cropped up as I was typing). I suspect they are probably easy going and laid back. An audition cuts both ways so if it isn't for you, you can say no. Go there with an open mind, relax, have a laugh and if it isn't for you chalk it up as experience. I didn't *necessarily* read this as they are unorganised but that may be the case. Listening to some bands in the style is bound to help. Auditions are as much about "can we get on" as "can they play"!
16. I've put several bands together, often by hooking up with at least one musician I like and then advertising around. My current bands are both ones who I joined but I think if you are prepared to put the work in people will come to you,
17. As much as I love Ziggy Stardust, I rate Young Americans as a personal favourite. Lows, I don't know. Although I never play them I tended to enjoy most of what he put out to a certain degree.
18. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr but partly because I'm vegetarian. So Joan Jett, the guitarist from Def Leppard and apparently Vanilla Ice would also be welcome.
19. I think one issue is that the key of the song is usually set for the lead singer so may not suit the range of the backing vocalist. I definitely prefer a simpler bassline if singing but anything comes with practice. I know the limitations of my voice so I am never too shy in saying no if a song or key isn't right for me. Why sing if it doesn't add anything to the song?
20. Great couple of sets at London's O2 as part of the C2C Festival.
21. I have Buddy's glasses tattooed on my arm. Amazing when you consider how young he was. Same with Eddie Cochran.
22. To echo the above comment from Mickster, I ordered a stand. No big deal I thought and I wasn't in a rush. I had an email saying delivery by March 1st and a link that didn't work so I could track the package. It got to the 3rd and nothing so I emailed. I then got ignored which I found mildly annoying. They then emailed me to invite me to review them on Trustpilot. No problem, I politely listed the service I'd received. Suddenly they pulled out the stops and I got my stand and an apology. If companies are going to use automated emails and third party sites to review, they need to raise their game.
23. Playing in a Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute, I like Hey Tonight.
24. Not sure if your computer was freezing out but you created 5 identical threads. I've closed the others down. Obviously shout if this was the intention as they can be re-opened but I figured you just wanted the one, so this one isn't locked.
