2.
It's all good, but if you really wanted to go 70s you'd fit a black guard...
I have an old brass 70s pickguard that has been kicking around for years too (that was the classic mod back then) but it's more the glam vibe I was after as opposed to being period correct.
3. For years I've had Fenders strung with flats, chrome covers on and gone for that proper old school vibe. However recently I've been appreciating the joys of a slightly more modern tone. So I wanted to bring my 50sRI P-bass crashing into the 70s / 80s. I picked up a cheap pickguard on EBay and likewise sourced some different pickup covers. The rounds went back on the bass and to my surprise the action didn't need adjusting. I just thought it'd be cool to have something that wouldn't look out of place in T-Rex or the Alice Cooper band. And at an expense of £9.47 I figure I can always go back when the mood takes me. (the right hand pic is the bass during it's last live outing). 4.
Anyone else familiar with Birdeatsbaby?
Hana the violin player was playing with my band at the same time. We did one album together before she moved on - all very amicable, she's rejoined us for a couple of shows and played on a couple of tracks from the last album.
5. Although I like a lot of big name acts from Elvis to the Stones, my original love was the 80s sleaze scene. Even the bigger names like Hanoi Rocks and Dogs D'Amour are a little obscure these days but I am / remain a big fan of Gunfire Dance, Soho Roses, Skin N Bones, Flies on Fire, Motorcycle Boy and a whole host of bands who haven't been heard of anyone outside of immediate family.
6. Having grown up listening to Hanoi Rocks I wouldn't mind being in Michael Monroe's solo band.
7. None really. If I miss them, I get another one - ultimately they go for a reason. I have phases of missing something (usually 51RI P-basses) but at the moment I wouldn't have minded keeping an old through neck white Epiphone T-bird. I have a great T-bird so it's purely fantasy and completely unneeded. I'm 100% confident that desire to re-own it will come to pass.
8. Black nylon strings have always been a great alternative to flats. Having sung the praises of flatwound strings since the 90s, I'm just discovering roundwound strings (yes, I'm painfully aware I'm doing this in reverse to everyone else). The reality is tastes change and different strings do different things.
9. I like the original post but the jury is out on clip on tuners (no issue for me) & I think we have touched on the topic before. I think;

Learn your parts.
Show up on time.
Don't moan about everything.
Know your place in the band.
Buy the odd drink.
Enjoy it.
Seems to have worked for me over the last 30yrs!
10. That July '17 release looks incredible. As much as I love my Gibson, I would prefer the chrome covers on the pickups. I have absolutely no reason to buy it BUT that just isn't the Basschat way!
11. My wife and I quite like REO Speedwagon's I Can't Fight This Feeling.... surely I have won (or lost?) this thread?!
12. I was in a 50s rock 'n' roll band that got asked to do Oasis. More than once too!?!
13. The high end Epiphones are through neck with Gibson pickups so that would be a good start. Equally T-birds don't hold as high a resale value as Fender so you can get bargains out there. Personally I'd go with the Epiphone. The Tokai ones I tried all weighed an absolute tonne and they are a light bass.
14. Anything with a Sansamp VT plugged into it! What don't you like about the Portaflex range? I find the PF stuff more than holds it's own playing rock.
15. It is a bit reflective of basses - a £300 pedal isn't 10 times better than some of the £30 Joyo pedals in the same way a high end Squier doesn't sound 10% as good as a Fender custom shop. I do feel the pedal companies are applying the instrument price guide to something that isn't the same.
16. I grew up listening to Hanoi Rocks and guitarist Nasty Suicide is now a pharmacist in Helsinki. Understandably for professional reasons he doesn't practice with his stage name!
17. My 2014 Thunderbird
18. I started out with a pick right by the bridge (sounded awful) but learnt in the late 90s that the sweet tones are much, much closer to the neck.
19. I enjoyed julesb's recent thread of the reverse so it got me to thinking, which albums dismissed as rotten are we all rating? I'll get the ball rolling with the 1986 Rolling Stones album "Dirty Work". Universally slated but from the Jimmy Page intro onwards I just hear the soundtrack to part of my youth.... Over to you.
20. Kinda interested but I suspect a lot of us found what we were looking for with the Sansamp stuff.
21.
Many thanks Tim. I couldn't find a feedback thread for yourself.
It's hidden under a load of dust and an older variation on my username!!! 22. Now with added chorus...(but less rock 'n' roll automobiles!)
23. Having bought from Peter last month, I'm back again for a chorus pedal this time. Same story, effortless transaction etc etc.
24.
Nice looking chorus
Oops that reminds me, I was going to leave you feedback once I posted this... and then I got sidetracked. Cheers all!
25. A snip for £140. Dano basses are usually great fun, at least the ones I've tried have been.
