1.
Don't quote me on this but I'm 99.9% sure my mate chose the Dan over the Boss even though he had the cash to buy both Again, just my $0.02
We're all allowed our own taste. I spent several evenings researching 50s slapback and the Dano was rated very highly indeed. However, I went with the Boss after several sound tests and read reviews. I'd heard of many other good makes from Strymon to Keeley's Memphis Son. It's just a mindfield.
2. Different echo pedals do completely different things so it depends what he wants. I was playing 50s rock n roll / rockabilly guitar and used the Boss RE-20 after a LOT of research BUT of course that is much more of a tape echo slapback sound and some people want more digital sounding repeats.
3. My Dad was a pro session drummer in the 60s and back when I started playing (late 80s) he had me changing notes as he played brushes on the strings. It sounded amazing - him, not me!
4. I'd answered this in the thread mentioned in the original post but I don't feel so bad reading everyone else's lists! 5. I've always done them, and have some dating right back to 1990! Usually EBay has a few sellers but I'm liking that link shared by the Greek.
6. I have my main Ampeg portaflex rig and an Ampeg BA108 practice amp - that's it. I'm wondering about getting a second cab for the portaflex rig which is where I stop. My journey has been; Peavey 130w combo for years and years. Roland DB700 very briefly. Laney combo even briefer! Ampeg 115 cab with Fender bassman head 1978 for about 18 months until the weight won out. Orange Tiny Terror and SP210 cab sold on as I was doing kit shares and it was a lot of money tied up in something that was doing 1 in 3 gigs. What I have now for the last couple of years (originally with the 500w head but upgraded to the 50T last summer.
7. I'm with Mark on the Hercules GS414B. I have my T-bird on one. I'm sure someone will be along soon enough to say they do balance on standard A frame stands but these are more secure. The Hercules stuff supposedly doesn't damage the finish either.
8.
How's it doing 5 months in? Like you I only recently saw these. Used to have a Gibson EB2 but didn't like the short scale s traded it. Not seen a semi with long scale other than the Gretsch but really don't like orange much!
It has been sidelined by a Thunderbird when I play live but is still very much a firm favourite at home. If I went down to 2 basses, this would be number 2.
9. My very modest effort... edited because I gave up on Photobucket!
10.
Your links dont seem to work.....just so you know.
They worked fine for me https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B0BPSSAdBlTiOTFlN2VHZndxV2c https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B0BPSSAdBlTibnNBUjluU1NMQWs The seller just didn't separate out the word pics: from the links but I could select them & go to the pages just fine.
11. Mine is only two pedals so I'm sure that most would argue it is pointless. However it is MY board so whether anyone would approve or not is fairly irrelevant. I'd never used pedals before but heard such good things about the Tech 21 VT bass... and I do like to silently check my tuning. 12.

You beat me to it! One of my favourite bands of all time!
13. I've owned two and it is a great bass. It got lost to two great bass culls. They periodically show up on here and of course EBay / Reverb / Gumtree are the places to go looking too.
14. I finally learnt the importance of personal practice and proper study of the instrument. The flipside is it made me less tolerant of any band member that was not learning the parts.
15. My Ampeg rig is much heavier than the little Orange SP rig I had for a few years. I thought that it'd be lighter but I just like the Ampeg sound. I wish I had roadies sometimes!
16. Fender make mass produced products and they usually aren't set up well in the shops. A quick professional set up usually transforms any instrument. Also worth noting that new woods shift around so occasionally a new instrument takes time to settle down.
17.
Sounds like there's some overdrive in there too. If you want scooped mids and some dirt then a Sansamp will fitbthr bill. If you fancy doing it forca bit less money then z Behringer BDI-21 will do it all for significantly less
I have the Sansamp already, great pedal
18.
That's the sound of a Warwick Streamer Stage 1
Thank you. Never played a Warwick but I like his tone (& playing). Cheers.
19. I've never really been much of an effects user but really liked this tone - totally different to anything I use. What is the effect that helps get this sound? The link should kick in on the bass solo. Thanks in anticipation. http://youtu.be/1kZ3nK06UGc?t=2m14s
20. £25 on vinyl... as much as I like to support these up and coming bands, that was just a tad steep for my tastes!
21. I think flats lend themselves particularly well to both Precision basses and especially fretless basses. Any jazzy or dub or early rock n roll tone and you are virtually 90% there. I appreciate they have their haters but try them for yourself, I say. I use rounds on my Gibson because they don't suit every situation but they do have a place in modern music.
22. Rock Around the Clock is just a brilliant song. I learnt the guitar parts and solos for an old band that then didn't do it. It made me realise that it is a much cleverer song than I'd given it credit.
23. I bought my first Squier back in the 80s in Windows, in the arcade in Newcastle. What a great place that was!
24. I've trained myself to view instruments as tools of the trade. If I don't use it, it gets sold and if I then decide it would be useful to own I get another one. I have a small collection that gets played rather than a large arsenal that sits in cases. I seem to have caught myself out by genuinely falling in love with my latest bass and I can't see a change coming.
25. I think every band member has the same functions in; 1) learning their parts 2) showing up on time 3) Buying the odd drink for the other band members 4) Only moaning about the things that really matter On top of all that I usually play bass (electric and occasionally upright), sing an occasional b.vox and do the internet / band FB page.
