8 + 8 equals 4 :-) you're fine
Thanks, I find your confidence reassuring - I don't need to get why, just that I am not going to damage anything. Out of interest should the head be switched to 8 ohm or 4 ohm? I'm thinking it should be on 8.

I'm the least technical or science-y person I know and I am just about confusing myself further than ever now. I have an Ampeg PF50t head (50w all tube into 4 or 8 ohm, apparently). I have been playing it into a cab from the same series, the PF115HE which is 450w RMS at 800w (typed as if I actually know what that means!). Recently I have been wanting to add a second cab, particularly as I like the sound of 8x10 cabs and I picked up a PF410HLF, again from the same series. There is one input out the back of the head but I know you can daisy chain between the two cabs. It certainly sounded good in the kitchen - loud too! Watching various videos on YouTube I am getting confused as to whether this could damage the amp in any way or is a good idea. Googling around it does rather seem like a 2x10 paired with a 4x10 would be a more obvious pairing than the 4x10 with a 1x15 but I was hoping someone could clarify in the simplest of terms whether I could damage any kit here or if it is fine as is. It certainly sounded good but I am an absolute rank amateur when it comes to the technical side of kit. Thanks in anticipation.

When I had cancer back in 2009 I was signed off work for 3 months but had a gig 10 days after surgery - the Doc described the gig as "a good idea" as it would "help aid recovery". I couldn't argue

I can rival the Micra with my ex-wife's VW Fox. No problem. Just go a bit careful as you said.

Your thoughts re: Flats on a Jazz bass?
Cat Burrito replied to Papabull's topic in General Discussion
I had flats on mine and it sounded great. I put them on a Rickenbacker too. We need to stop having rules for music. -
I'm more with Charic in terms of how I read this (& Finn Dave who cropped up as I was typing). I suspect they are probably easy going and laid back. An audition cuts both ways so if it isn't for you, you can say no. Go there with an open mind, relax, have a laugh and if it isn't for you chalk it up as experience. I didn't *necessarily* read this as they are unorganised but that may be the case. Listening to some bands in the style is bound to help. Auditions are as much about "can we get on" as "can they play"!

I've put several bands together, often by hooking up with at least one musician I like and then advertising around. My current bands are both ones who I joined but I think if you are prepared to put the work in people will come to you,

As we're talking about Bowie..career highest & lowest
Cat Burrito replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
As much as I love Ziggy Stardust, I rate Young Americans as a personal favourite. Lows, I don't know. Although I never play them I tended to enjoy most of what he put out to a certain degree. -
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr but partly because I'm vegetarian. So Joan Jett, the guitarist from Def Leppard and apparently Vanilla Ice would also be welcome.

I think one issue is that the key of the song is usually set for the lead singer so may not suit the range of the backing vocalist. I definitely prefer a simpler bassline if singing but anything comes with practice. I know the limitations of my voice so I am never too shy in saying no if a song or key isn't right for me. Why sing if it doesn't add anything to the song?

I have Buddy's glasses tattooed on my arm. Amazing when you consider how young he was. Same with Eddie Cochran.

To echo the above comment from Mickster, I ordered a stand. No big deal I thought and I wasn't in a rush. I had an email saying delivery by March 1st and a link that didn't work so I could track the package. It got to the 3rd and nothing so I emailed. I then got ignored which I found mildly annoying. They then emailed me to invite me to review them on Trustpilot. No problem, I politely listed the service I'd received. Suddenly they pulled out the stops and I got my stand and an apology. If companies are going to use automated emails and third party sites to review, they need to raise their game.

Playing in a Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute, I like Hey Tonight.

I think it depends on the band. A covers band of mine I would expect the dep to take the same as the rest of us but my originals band we usually pay a bit more on the rare occasions we need someone because they have had to learn a set of original material.

I spent an evening looking for one online a few months ago... then it dawned on me that I have my amp flightcased for tours so on the individual shows where I can just put my amp in a padded cover to transport in the car I take the bottom of the flightcase and hey presto, same thing.

Early 90s Fender 57RI Japan P-bass on a silly length long strap into an old Peavey 130w combo we picked up for £50 from a garage sale. No effects. Heavy pick and stock strings.

80's brands that tried to kill your bass playing.
It's probably got a lot to do with just being a better player too.
A mix of being a better player and actually having the instruments serviced or set up properly -
Your most interesting piece of bass/musical equipment
My first Gibson Thunderbird was bought for me by my girlfriend at the time (nice). She said the guy in the shop told her it had been custom-built for Floyd London of Glasgow band The Almighty. It's stamped on the back of the headstock "For Promotional Use". Gibson USA confirmed it was from their custom shop, but didn't have a record of who it was made for. About 15 years later I came across Mr London's email address, and wrote to ask him if this could be true. After a bit of describing it turned out that it had been his - and he sent me a pic of himself rocking it up at Manchester Arena with the bass, supporting Alice Cooper.
Cool story -

Did anyone ever buy an Axe from the Kerrang adverts? I think a lot of it came down to poor setups and lack of experience because all the rubbish gear I played then that I have since played as an adult seems MUCH better. Unless it was just the good ones that survived? -
All my transactions on Gumtree have been good. I sound out any seller if I am worried and the SLIGHTEST hint of doubt and I leave it. To be fair I've only had pedals posted. An amp or bass is a bigger gamble. Fingers crossed you get a good reply.

So, what do you think brought you to the bass?
Cat Burrito replied to Dazed's topic in General Discussion
My interest probably started with something like this.... ...before developing more into me playing through watching stuff like this... -
Yes, I had to change from fingers to pick after a motorcycle accident which left me with restricted wrist movement and no tendon to raise the middle finger of my right hand. One year since I was able to resume playing, I am starting to get used to the pick.
Fair play. I'd assumed it was going to be a "suits the band" type response so respect to you.
