It's weird reading Pat Badger's name all these years later. I remember the kids in the year below at school all being big fans of Extreme "back in the day" but then they all got into grunge. I guess my year were into the crop of bands beforehand. I think playing with a pick over the pickup would get you in the right ball park regardless of bass / rig. I assume the trade value of those Washburns is pretty minimal in 2014 but happy to be corrected.

I played one back around 2008 and was really disappointed (no omph!) but they've upgraded them twice since. The last one I played was much better so I reckon the 2014 ones would be bang on the mark.

Both are brilliant basses, I've owned both. As said the 57 is slightly wider at the nut and there is a small difference in tone that you only really notice if you play them alongside each other but basically both deliver classic P tones. I played the 57 for years and years. The 62 lasted a fair while with me too

The G starts heavier but I picked some up just the other week http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-7350-Stainless-Steel-Flatwound-Bass-Strings-9050L-9050Ml-9050M-/231279579479?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&var=&hash=item35d9565157

I'm with Jono on the Grolsch bottle tops as strap locks. They've been used by me for over 15yrs and never let me down. The violin basses are light as anything and a cheap strap would be fine.

I have a couple of Bass Clef vinyl decals on my car. I only added them about a year ago and they are suitably understated.

An amazing talent

I used the SP210 with my Orange Head for 4yrs and it never let me down. I was always getting compliments on my sound too. Must've been the witchcraft Only got rid of it to free up some cash when a cheaper Ampeg rig came up.

I bet none of you like the bass as hard as this guy

Ah... still a small world then

Are you Julian? If so you booked my old band SkinTrade at The Bell in Old Town back in 1994... if not this has to be a fairly redundant post!?!

How do you enter the stage..so to speak...at a gig?

Case Hardin are looking for additional musicians, sadly Hana has had to move on from our ranks, so we wish her all the best in her future projects. The band will audition any instrument beyond guitar, bass, drums.... so think mandolin, banjo, fiddle, piano, accordion, organ etc. As for singing, the ability to carry a tune in a bucket is certainly preferable, but far from essential. Case Hardin have a new album of material written and will be recording in late July. The campaign for last years 'PM' was enormously successful, Q magazine Roots album of the month, 4/5 stars in The Independent and Classic Rock said 'Pete Gow emerges as one of the UK's most gripping, evocative and under- rated songwriters'. If you are interested, or know of someone who might be a good fit, please get in touch. Many thanks.. Andy, Jim, Tim & Pete

Filling the 'space' in a rock and roll band - help needed...
Cat Burrito replied to dazza14's topic in Effects
[sub]Well last night was a bit of a success.... I think i'm lucky to be in a band with musicians that are open to change...[/sub]
Good stuff. It is good to look at these things as a band rather than blame one guy. As I said the guitarist playing double stops and partial chord shapes will certainly thicken things up whilst creating space. If any of you guys are around for Rockabilly Rumble next Friday that'd be cool. They seem to be getting a bit of a reputation locally so it should be a good night. -
My three electric guitars are (left) a custom made Leathercaster based on Waylon Jennings' guitar as seen at the start of The Dukes of Hazzard. This was custom made in pieces in the USA and then shipped over here to be assembled. Then (right) you have a Gretsch 5120 and below a 60s reissue telecaster. Three very cool guitars for country, soul & rockabilly.
it's not just down to you, your drummer needs to be addressing it to.

Maybe the guitarist is playing too much when he is not soloing and so losing too much when he drops it.
I've been thinking a bit about this thread since my last post and I think it *may* be more than this. A lot of soloing in the rock 'n' roll era involves thickening up the guitar with double stops or chord based soloing. It's easy for us as bass players to think we are the ones who are at fault but I wonder if your guy is doing a lot of single note soloing? Listen to Eddie Cochran or Buddy Holly - it's very heavily based around not just playing single notes and that thickens the sound. Just thinking about your playing from what you've said. In terms of the bass, jazzes are slightly better for cutting through the mix and playing more melody based basslines. A P-bass would thicken up the sound. And I assume you are using flatwounds, playing finger style nearer the neck? All this will make for a more authentic period correct sound. Effects weren't relied on then as they are now. Failing on all that I was deadly serious in my offer to try out on 2nd guitar. And I see Rockabilly Rumble are playing the Vic on Friday 20th. I'll probably venture down to that one -
Squier: Classic Vibe '50s Precision Bass - £120
Cat Burrito replied to Donnyboy's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I too have the Butterscotch one and it is one of only two electric basses I play now (the other is also Squier). I have to say I prefer the Butterscotch to the Lake Placid Blue simply because I like a nice glossed neck. This model would still be an absolute steal at £200, never mind £120. -

Hey Darren - we've spoken on PM about this music. I think space is good & actually live doesn't notice in the way it does in rehearsal. I'm looking to move back to Wiltshire soon & have both a Gretsch and a J200 acoustic so if you do go down the 2nd guitar route give us a shout. -
Would You Want Your Own Signature Model?
Cat Burrito replied to Norris's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, why not? It would promote the band, get me a free bass and appeal to my personal vanity Mine would be the a salmon pink early 50s P bass possibly with an upside down headstock. -
I thought this was going to be a thread about being on this forum too much

With my last rig that I've only recently replaced I was another one who'd flightcased it and sat the cab on top of the empty flightcase. With my Ampeg rig I hadn't actually thought about it until I read this thread but it was plenty loud enough so I hope I'm OK.

How accurate are your opinions on gear?

But it must be true if someone is saying it on the Internet though, right? -
I used to take a backup bass but having only broken one string once back in the 90s when I played punk with a pick and didn't look after my kit I think I'm happy to take my chances.
