With any pickup replacement you need to ask yourself 1) what you are looking for and 2) what is it that the stock pickups are not doing for you? The CV stuff sounds good to me but there are plenty of improvements out there. If you want a more traditional sound you would be looking at anything 50s or 60s reissue but if you want a bit more high output then something different would be on the cards. Cost is also a factor. Personally I like the Seymour Duncan range (Antiquity especially) but then if I was playing something else I'd probably go for a different pickup from their range.

There are pictures of him playing upright bass too on some of the rockabilly groups on Facebook. I'm sure he could play a bit but I don't suppose he gave Billy Sheenan a run for his money

I started on a 4/4 bass which I didn't realise until I really got into it. I sold it on and moved to a 3/4 which has been a bit easier when it comes to sharing / borrowing basses. I'd stay in my comfort zone from now on in.

My band with the indie deal has a webpage that cost a few hundred and my knockabout band has a free site where we paid a few quidd for the domain name. I think the expensive site looks good but is a real battle to upload new information (designed by a computer programmer who forgets we're all simple musicians). The other band literally has all of 2 pages and serves a purpose. I agree that in an age of Twitter and Facebook they are less essential but both direct people to see us on the various social networking sites, can sell merch and have the capacity to capture those who don't tweet etc. I think they are a good idea. Googling cheap easy band sites or similar should get you started.

These threads never get too far before someone mentions the early 90s when Bassist magazine broke off from Guitarist.... so I will, what a great magazine! I stopped my BGM subscription and the very next issue they had Lee Rocker on the cover and I kept forgetting to pick a copy up. That aside I really don't miss it. One article in over a year doesn't really justify it for me.

I don't know about "even more" famous but the Brian Setzer Orchestra did pretty well after the Stray Cats.

I don't think there is a definitive one but I like the old school looks of a bassman, an Ampeg or an Orange rig myself.

That feedback is very sneaky though, 100% in the last 12 months but a fair few red ones for so few transactions. I suspect he won't be happy unless this gets to a decent amount.

From my experience the good bands that I've been in, as a rule, naturally find the music shifts direction rather than suddenly deciding they aren't one thing and are now another. Personally I'd talk it through with them but it does rather sound like the writing is on the wall.

I was going to suggest Squier Bronco, the Gretsch Jet or an Epiphone EB0 which are all fairly inexpensive and obviously cheaper 2nd hand.

Having read the responses on here I'm too scared to comment

I heard / saw these back in 2007 on holiday in Cape Town. The buskers were amazing and sounded great. I doubt they'll rival the strat but I reckon there could be a market for these.
