As said it is all subjective. I wouldn't have put myself down as a sunburst fan but I've owned some really cool looking sunburst basses. The example of PRS in the OP is personally not to my tastes but then there is a market out there for them. I think basses do look cool and sexy but over 25yrs of playing my tastes have moved around a lot. I'm back to a black body / white scratchplate look at present which is something I thought I'd never go for again.

It was a brilliant amp. I don't think mine ever went past 4 on the dial & in fact my guitarist uses it now as I've kept it going since returning to bass.

I had the same couple of basses for all my playing career until I got on Bassworld (the old Basschat). I guess I enjoyed buying but after a period of about 5 or 6 years where I owned an embarrassingly large amount of instruments I realised there was more to life. I have spent an age selling them off and actually downsized the £1500 Fenders for a couple of perfectly adequate / actually pretty decent Squiers. I have no plans to buy any more but still have 2 or 3 instruments that I will list on here / eBay but I've just been spectacularly lazy. I'm not one for bumping sale threads as they'll sell when they sell. It was all good fun whilst it lasted but I think GAS can be a little dangerous. I think 2007-2010 I was certainly a name associated with GAS and NBD, thankfully I would hope I am not now.

The Bass Doc did my Squier and actually in terms of cost he worked out cheaper than it would have been to order the part from the US. Plus the North East doesn't incur customs charges

I have to echo the comments about Squiers. I've sold off my Fenders and play them exclusively now. The VM and CV are simply stunning (basswood bodies typically) but the Affinity range are great and likewise the old silver series too

I had the same thing myself last month but rang them up and they put it right straight away. They are good with customer service - I've placed a few orders over the years and one went wrong before as well and they were the same then. Very laid back, apologetic and quick to say they'd sort it. They'll get you to return the original back 2nd class but refund the postage once it arrives. As you say at £50 it should be right but speak with them and they'll sort it for you, I'm sure.

I think it took me a couple of years but it really is worth knowing at least the happy one & the sad one as WoT put it. I spent most of my 30s playing catch up because my teens & 20s were spent posing

Personally I think since cleaning up his act I think Duff is pretty genuine and doubt this is about money for Duff at least. http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/news/guns-nroses-duff-mckagan-return-confirmed/ I like Duff, liked his book and on some level he is probably a small factor as to why I've been a bassist since the late 80s.

For what it is worth, as a Forum mod I can't do it on my own listing so I think it is a case of updating in the title and the main body of the text. I reserve the right to be corrected by an Admin but as said it has indeed come up before.

I once joined a band (briefly) where I was told that "I was tall and looked like Duff McKagan with that long blonde hair" (a LONG time ago!) but then given instructions to stand at the back. I dyed my hair and quit. Most bands I've played with have had an image of sorts being an important aspect but this hasn't meant they needed to resort to being idiots.

Mandolin Cafe is a good forum & I used that a bit when I started out. Kentucky is a great make so I assume that one is solid top?

How we all love a politician looking slightly silly; all jolly harmless really. I don't care for Gove personally but he comes across almost sweet here. And I must confess I was sharing this clip last night with friends on Facebook. Working a lot in schools myself I deliberately tend to name check Showaddywaddy or Shakin Stevens whenever I get asked about music by the kids. He does gain / lose kudos (depending on your angle) for name checking Chuck D and stating that Wham are a bit vanilla. But perhaps that's just the way they roll in his 'hood!? Bear jokes, innit?

I don't recall seeing one of these before. I love the look of old retro instruments that look sort of futuristic at the same time. Good effort and worthy of a brand new Basschat acronym in NVBBD

I absolutely LOVE going to gigs. I occasionally struggle watching some of the bands that support my band (& then slope off whilst we're playing despite having politely watched their often unspectacular performance). I have even seen some of the so called past it acts play bigger places and had a good night. I guess we're all different.

I think Tom Petty has been much more hit than miss over a very long musical career. Didn't spot anyone mentioning The Traveling Wilburys either which I thought was OK at the time but rediscovering them about 15yrs back I realised I'd been a bit harsh first time around - brilliant stuff.

I don't think this is a stupid question but then I've been around long enough to have seen a couple crop up, usually in off topic! My thoughts are as follows (pending someone with a better idea popping up). The DB is a huge part of the image of rock n roll so as practical as an EUB is (and I am often dreaming as one whilst descending stairs after midnight) most bands will want you on an old fashioned looking upright bass. Advertise in Items Wanted on here for a flight case as brand new they are pricey but also start scouring EBay. The alternative would be to either divide the kit up with other band mates or wrap some waterproofing like tarpaulin around a gig bag and stick that on the roof rack. There are basses that fold up too but I fear this might not solve your issues. I think this is an interesting thread, good luck resolving the problem.

I definitely notice trends on here. Wayne mentioned Sue Ryder basses and there was a phase where loads of people were snapping them up. Equally I remember HighwayOne basses being the essential purchase of choice for a while as was a Jack Cassady bass. Amp wise the Orange Terror seemed really popular for a time as did the Mark Bass stuff. A lot of these choices seem reflected by indie bands on TV too. I guess we reflect a new product coming out and people want to snap it up. A few people stay with the bass of choice and most wind up getting sold on for the next wave of GAS. All good fun and completely irrelevant in equal measures.
