Learning a different instrument.....
Metalmoore replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
I know banjo has been mentioned, but i think they seem cool and not too loud. If i could get my hands on a cheap 5 string banjo i would be happy. -

I would also recommend the Audere jazz. Gotta love it, i can get a kind of p bass sound out of it i think. Also about the same price as the varitone and im sure there is plenty of us with them on the forum.

Got a G2 by stagg XB300-BK that i bought about a year ago as an upgrade to my ebayed PJ bass but in the end went back to the PJ as i prefered the neck. Only problem is there are some slight grazes on the body and a chunk of finish has came off too on the back which you cannot see from the front (seen in pictures 3 & 4) but apart from that plays fine. Bought it for £130, GAK sell it for £150. Only problem is it will have to be collection as i dont have anything suitable to post it in (unless you dont mind the neck and body individually wrapped up in bubble wrap) or you could provide something for it. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Product page is HERE

Just wondering if anyone knows anyone who can make me a custom nut or know a place where i can get one from. I need a 5 string nut for a 4 string P neck, it would have to be 1 5/8" and the usual fender size. If it helps its a Mighty mite 4 string P neck i am using, i know it can be done as Ric5 from TB has done it but he says he makes them himself from blanks. I you need more details on the neck drop me a PM. Cheers

Thats insane. Anyone know the make?

I have finally decided the final specs of this bass. Body: Custom T-Bird body using a template of ric5's from talkbass Neck: Customized 4 string mighty mite maple P neck made into a 5 string neck with a custom nut Machineheads: Hipshot ultralites PUPS: Pair of wizard gems Bridge: Schaller 3d-5 Finish: Blueburst Preamp: Audere 3 band Schaller straplocks The body is now going to be a mahogany body with ash veneer on the front and back of the bass so i can get the grain i want similar to the mockup. All hardware will be black. All i gotta buy is PUPS (£140), Paint (£50-65), Preamp (£100-120)), straplocks and get the custom nut. Dont mind the price as long as it feels and sounds as good as the jazz i just made.

Gotta love all those blue guitars  The two basses look AMAZING. I am wanting to go for something in between those two basses with the light blue going out to that darker blue with a black edge but i don't want a thick black edge like how the second bass has got a really thin black edge. This is one of my plan's for this so far: Spray the Trans blue on the whole body, then make a template of the body similar to this and using the same technique but with a much smaller template and spray more of the Trans blue to build up a darker blue then using another template the full size of the body again like the above link and spray a thin black edge. My other plan would be this: Using a template do the black edges first then go over the whole body with the Trans blue. I think the Trans blue over the black overspray would just make the Trans blue look darker. Any feedback would be great. @ ezbass: not thought about a matching headstock but am now that you've brought it up. iirc the neck i have has some nice grain on the headstock so it might look real nice. @ maxrossell: cheers for the advice, it is my second refin but i am pretty confident about it. But i have decided just to use Trans blue and black and i am going to contact the guy from Manchester guitar tech to see if he knows hows dark the Trans blue gets once a fair amount of coats over it as i think Trans blue then black would be odd and rather have a light to darker Trans blue then black similar to Brave sir robins second bass he posted

As some people know i am slowly building a Fenderbird which will be a mix of the two pictures below and will be doing a blueburst finish. BUT im not sure if i should do it in a trans blue, blue, black or trans blue, black. I will be using spray cans from manchester guitar tech so if any advice would be great since the colours are there. I was thinking trans blue, medium blue, black but i dont think it will "flow" that well. Cheers

Well if you buy the body unfinished you gotta take your time. I recently made a jazz bass using a unfinished ash body and regret not taking more time to grain fill and sand between sprays. It still looks great but if you look carefully you can see its not perfect. I did enjoy it but, makes it feel "closer" to you. Some sites around giving advice on burst spraying: Manchester guitar tech Project guitar Reranch PS: i will be doing my own Blueburst finish on my fenderbird once it makes more progress so let me know how this goes if you do decide to spray it yourself and any advice you can give from the experience.
