I remember when i first started i had 80 quid from my birthday to spend to get everything, managed it in the form of a no name PJ ibby look-a-like from ebay for 60 quid with amp and everything else, back then that was a lot of money to me (still is tbh )

How do I convert a Jazz to Active?
Metalmoore replied to popitinpete's topic in Repairs and Technical
I have sheilded all cavities in the body and the PG and lined the bottom of the bridge with copper tape and connected them all to each other with wire soldered then another wire to the ground wire that audere provided with there drop in preamp and i get zero hum (at least i cant hear any). I think the Audere is great, nice wide range of tones and easy to setup too. -
New Squier VM Jazz Bass :-) Floppy E String :-(
Metalmoore replied to s1mon321's topic in Repairs and Technical
I have played a few VMJ's and were all setup great in store (was surprised to say the least). I would maybe take it back and ask them to have a wee look seeing as its brand new and all, could be something as simple as a bad string as 7string mentioned. -
Yeah you gotta get a cable seperate, might be able to get one around here if you ask for cheap.

So it's trivial and it should be what I want..
I really like the white. The Black with white pickguard really works with the rosewood/block inlay 'board. It's a good look.
+1 -
Cheers for the link hillbilly deluxe, i will have a look into it.

I have laney rb2 and it's nice and loud and it's great for a practice amp. I wish I could get my hand's on the ashdown wayne has I wouldn't need a practice amp again.
-
For 30-40 quid more i would take the VMJ as it's not the best, but it is the best in the price range and alot of people are preferring these over fender jazzes and even curing Jazz GAS
There was an excellent product that i used a few years ago called Re-paint,i painted this bike with it.3 coats then wet and dry paper, finish off with rubbing paste or solvol autosol for a high gloss finish.
Could you gimme a link to where i might be able to buy it? Cheers, Andrew

Well I got the body stripped (kinda, it needs a quick sanding) and it seems like 5 pieces of (ugly) unknown wood but NOT plywood I plan on using a chisel to make the routes rectangular to make the job easier (idea borrowed from ou7shined and his pingray build) and flatten the floor and sides of the routes (not so sure how to at the moment as its a bit of a mess) and finding some pieces of wood to plug up the routes and glue them in and do the usual sanding and filling to get a nice flat surface. My great uncle has a router that he is willing to loan me so I can do the MM and Reverse P route (going for a true MM pup position with the EA P pup side in the normal place but the DG side closer to the neck). This is all I will be able to do for a while until I can get some cash to do the finish. I would like a cheap black gloss finish for it but would not like to go for the spray on nitro route as it was a right pain in the arse so is there a paint on black gloss available.

I have decided to not go on with this any more as I can’t afford to do it in the foreseeable future even though I already have everything apart from the body and electronics. I am already really happy with my jazz bass and by the end of this week I should have an Aria Pro II ZZB Deluxe bass which will be my metal bass and not so sure about a 5 string any more either. I will keep a note of the URL just in case I do decide to go back to it later.

Can I Put a 34" Neck on a 3/4 size body?
Metalmoore replied to Chris2202's topic in General Discussion
Seeing the encore you linked to you cant move the bridge any further so would need some sort of custom neck that would make a nut to bridge length of 34". i dont think you could just find any old neck that would fit and acheive a scale length of 34". Can i ask why you want to do this? If its to save money i think you would be better off buying a cheapo bass than doing this. -
Yeah, get yourself to a music shop ASAP and spend some time just playing around with different basses within your price range and one or two thats not to compare. Try the VMJ and compare it to a fender jazz and youl feel how good the VMJ really is.

Very nice, will be worth something nice when its 50 and the 100th anniversary jazz comes out
I'm sitting in a room full of Fenders and I'm playing my VMJ at the moment, without doubt the best value for money bass there is.
If i were to have my custom jazz stolen i would buy a VMJ and throw in a audere and i would be VERY happy (obviously very sad too seeing as my custom cost quite a lot)

Shuker Classic Jazz. Baby blue. NOW TRADED Thanks Dean!
Metalmoore replied to bobpalt's topic in Basses For Sale
Its most likely worth it, but im a student without work at the moment. I know shuker makes some great basses, but how much would this cost to build new and how does your price compare to how much shuker would charge? Maybe that could put people off? NOTE: I'm NOT trying to start anything or claiming its too much as it IS a high end bass. -
Well they all have there own kind of trademark sounds but physically a P pickup is two small single coils and one goes under 2 strings and the other under the other 2 (each one wound differently to cancel any hum). A J pickup is just a single coil under all the strings. A hum bucker is in essence two single coils in one case but wound differently from each other under all strings. I'm sure someone else will explain this better than I or you could even check out wikipedia. Just with a PJ bass you can work out which sound you prefer and when you eventually spend more money on a better bass you might decide just a single P is what you want or a nice pair of J pickups is your thing. I like both the P bass and J bass sounds but prefer the Jazz because...... hmmm, I dunno why I like it, just sounds right to me. Everyone has their favourite sound and eventually you will work it out, it’s all in the fun of playing different basses and finding it. Just remember, there is no right or wrong choice when choosing your bass, one mans favourite could be another’s worst nightmare and all we can provide here is our own experiences/opinions because if you were to ask me what bass you should get I would straight away say a Jazz bass because I love them and to me they sound great but someone else might swear by P basses and wouldn’t touch a J bass. If I were to go back in time to choose a bass I would have started with a squier VMJ, I recommend you try one.

"Blue Flower" MIJ Fender bass
Metalmoore replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
God that thing looks horrid... Why go through with all the heavy modding like that just to sell eh? -
Watched the "making of" over on finnbass and gotta say it was interesting to watch it getting made. But thank god you cant see whats under that pickguard, this is one bass that will NEVER look good with a clear PG
-
The drop in Audere is a great preamp and i highly recommend it, i have it in my custom jazz and once you get used to it you know where to find all those usable tones very quickly. I have Wizard 84's in my jazz and they sound great to me, maybe give andy @ wizard pickups a call and he can make custom pups for you (usually no extra charge) and all you gotta do is describe the sound you want.
You know, most people's first bass isn't the most interesting piece of equipment. Remember, you're looking for something to learn on. When I started, I got an instrument that wasn't the greatest to play. When I decided that I was dedicated to the instrument and that I wanted to continue to play, I bought a better one, and the difference in my playing ability was notable. Perhaps you should aim for an instrument that you're comfortable learning on, rather than an instrument that you want to show off. I mean, if you have something to show off, but you can't play it, then what's the use, right?
+1 Thats why i have been recomending second hand and the rbx170.
