1. Passive is a good way to start imho as its simple to get a nice sound out of it quickly. A yamaha rbx170 aint a bad thing, only played one for 10 mins but im sure my mate gigs with one. Cheap and cheerful in my eyes.
2. I was starting to wonder what happened to this project. Nice to see its still going on
3. Dread, where do you live as that might help us a little keeping an eye out for things. I personally wouldnt buy the dean for a few reasons, its a 35" scale AND its active, when starting i went for an obscure ebay'd PJ bass that was your typical 34" scale (which most 4 strings are) and was a passive bass (V/V/T/T) meaning i would find THAT tone very quickly compared to messing around with an active EQ and when your beginning you shouldnt be worrying about about EQ control at the bass. You really should buy second hand from here as most basses/practice combos are well looked after round these parts and will get alot more bass for you money than buying new also if you do decide to stop playing you can sell it back here making a minimum loss (or even a slight profit, you never know). If you play your cards right and wait around a little while im sure some great bargains will come by as they always do here.
4.
How about a P/J with an amp for £85? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...IT#ht_624wt_958
If i lived near doncaster i would take that, but i would end up tearing it apart and making a project out of it...
5. Mate, your best off getting some sort of PJ Bass with a amp and bag as the PJ gets you the best of both worlds and as mentioned before is very versatile. eBay used to have loads but now there seems to mostly be P basses. If your interested in a metal bass i got one for sale HERE. If your not 100% about playing bass start cheap, i got my first bass, amp, strap, tuner and cable for 60 quid just under 4 years ago.
6. She i beautiful! I really have a thing for light blue jazz basses... Good luck selling it
7. I would go for the ibby or the jazz but i would suggest trying some cheap basses in a local shop and one or two expensive ones to compare to the cheap ones too especially the vintage modified range of squier. I would have a look in the for sale section here for a practice amp and a bass too.
8. Thought i may show what some evil people are capable of... LINK
9. I am sure he was only fooling around btw. so dont take it to seriously
10. Wow, old topic reborn.
11.
I could do trades with it for something you have (girlfriends excluded) or you could wash my car for a month + cash
Dont tempt me. Not working at the moment and once i do i got a lot of other things with priority over bass related things. Fingers crossed for saturday nights lottery
12.
A shameless plug for my defretted Aria ZZB Deluxe http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=STRK:MESELX:IT Took it apart yesterday to give it a good clean. and added a shim to the neck pocket so that I could adjust the action at the bridge - with the frets gone, the saddles couldn;t go low enough for reasonable action Cheaper here if anyone wants to make an offer by PM
If i could afford it i would take this off your hands right now, its beautiful...
13. If you dont mind me asking, How much is it costing? As i am also thinking of a Shuker bass. Obviously i will understand if you dont want to post it. Cheers, Andrew
14. Still cant get over how good it looks...
15. Well its mainly only 5 string basses i am looking at and mccormacks and merchant city music didnt offer many or any. Just seeing as edinburgh is the capital thought there would be a few more shops out there.
16. I love that bass!! reminds me of my own Daphne Blue (thats what it said the colour was on the can) Custom Jazz bass. In my eyes you cant beat a maple neck, pearloid pickguard and light blue jazz bass like this and my own jazz  . There should be more of them
17. I am thinking about going to Edinburgh (less than an hour for me and i also have a mate up there i could grab a few pints with while im at it ) to try out some 5ers to see what feels right. So is there any decent guitar shops over to the East that stock 5 strings as i cant find many in sunny glasgow at the moment. Cheers, Andrew
18. Well i have only had 3 basses and one combo in the ~4 years of on and off playing/interest. A Stagg Warlock copy, a P/J no name bass (looks similar to an ibanez) and my Jazz i made and my Laney RB2 combo. Hope i dont get as bad as some others here... lol
19. @ Delberthot: Out of curiousity, why did you sell them?
20.
Fuxake! I thought I was gyppo-ing it to the max when I got £80 for one of them! Plus he should've left it stock - at least the pup - the stock pickup on these is surprisingly good. Jon.
The stock hardware and PUP are included, its mentioned in the listing somewhere. Tbh i like it, one of the few natural finishs i have seen and not wanted to cover it in paint, bit pricey for me though
21. I know warmoth are known for the great build quality of their guitars but wondering if anyone has any here. Would like to see what it is you have, how they feel and anything else you can tell me really. I am really interested in the Gecko 5 so would really like to know how the neck feels on it and how it balances and again any info you have. Cheers
