Anyone know who the bass payer with Olivia Dean is - no pyrotechnics but tasteful accompaniment. He's not in shot much

I just love listening to people who can sing.

Haven't been on basschat much lately, just trawling through this thread, there's some truly fantastic music on here. Can I add a couple please. -
I suspect that they don't appear on preloved because they're all f*cked as my 3 are. Tascam won't repair them which is really annoying. When working they're quite good, but the slowdown isn't in the same league as slowdown software like transcribe, which is much easier to use. If you've got a pc I'd recommend a usb audio interface and transcribe or something similar.

Courier with Insurance Dec 2022. Any suggestions please?
MilkyBarKid replied to Quent's topic in General Discussion
Be careful with UPS- I bubble wrapped the entire keyboard and they've sent me a bill for the same cost as my original shipping for "manual handling". First time I've used them for about 15 years after a string of items from the US arrived damaged - never did get any payments despite being insured. -
I've just looked at the lineup for this festival and I know amost none of the acts - can anyone recommend some acts with good bass players - funk, fusion that might be worth seeing. Thanks

I had my briefcase repaired twice by the previous support outfit in Birmingham and when I had problems the third time I tried over several months to contact Selectron - no joy. I found a guy in Worcester who repaired it pjb sent circuit diagrams eventually - comms weren't great, but once pjb engaged their tech and my repair man seemed to communicate well to solve the problem. Compared to marshall service - who repaired two 20 year old combo's for free it's not great, (they didn't completely conk out either - it was just a minor problem on one channel). I'm playing my bass through a marshall combo now and to be frank it sounds so much better than my pjb.

Alternative to tascam bt phrase trainer ?
MilkyBarKid replied to Geek99's topic in General Discussion
I have 5 pieces of tascam equipment including a BT10 and a GB10. All apart from one have failed. The one that hasn't failed doesn't get used. The headphone and input sockets are the main culprit - tascam won't repair them. Not a happy bunny. No more tascam equipment for me!. -

Anyone visit Band on the Wall 1986-1988
MilkyBarKid replied to MilkyBarKid's topic in General Discussion
Thanks Dazed, I'll give it a try. I'm really not sure if he was supporting Bruford. I dragged a group of friends along who absolutely hated the music, it was very weird compared to his Berlin / Holdsworth band - I was expecting something similar. Very embarassing evening, my friends were laughing at how bad they felt the music was. I wasn't impresed by their behaviour, but felt guilty for bringing them to something they didn't enjoy. -
I spent a couple of years in Manchester between September 1986 and September 1998 and used to visit Band on the Wall and remember a phenomenal young bass player - I can't remember much but he played through a small polytone combo and he might possibly have supported Bill Bruford. I was just wondering if anyone remembers his name and what became of him. He was really funky. I know it's not a lot to go on but you can only ask. I bought a polytone - trying to emulate him and it was the worst amp I've ever owned.

I did some lock design for ERA a long time ago, even then the premier lock specialists at the Police told me that no one picks locks anymore - they just break the doors open.

I've got six wall hangers and three upright (not bass) stands. Four of the hangers are sticky. My plasterboard is set away from the wall, and I didn't trust it, so I drilled through pasterboard and cavity and into brick wall. I used these. Rock solid.

Demeter Service - Anyone had any luck contacting them?
MilkyBarKid replied to MilkyBarKid's topic in Amps and Cabs
Sorry I should have made clear this was some time ago - I guess I've emailed them twice over the last 18 months last time several months ago - no answer. -
Piffling problem with a bit missing from one of my tone control knobs on my pre-amp, I've emailed Demeter twice and had no repsonse - anyone got any suggestions about how to get a response from them? Thanks

Jacob Collier - unbelieveable and he's only 22. -
I'm quite surprised to hear about this 3 injections rule. I've had 5 steroid injections in the vicinity of my nevicular bone. Each time they've told me to fast and that they would give me an anaethsetic (never did) it was a real achy pain when they injected it.. As far as I'm aware they were perfectly happy to inject more but the pain went away.

Audio interface for recording band live
MilkyBarKid replied to Gottastopbuyinggear's topic in General Discussion
Doesn't the tascan 16x06 function as a live mixer too - I'd think it was worth a look. The tascam us2000 might also be worth a look with 16 inputs. -
The tascams are great, but sound quality degrades very quickly when slowed down, and they're unreliable, my first one conked out completely, the batteries stopped holding charge after a while, and they are expensive, light also failed, and jack failed. Tthe second one I bought, the jack doesnt work, and the effects are stuck on, and the tuners not great on the b string, - its a bit better on the others. I use transcribe on pc now - the sound quality is much better.

According to some youtube comments - which I was reading while I was listening to some of his other stuff, he's also in a death metal band. I wouldn't have seen that coming.

Depending on how you resolve this issue - if it is resolved to your satisfaction then I'd say don't name and sham, but otherwise if you would tell a friend about your poor service then tell us. I wasn't warned about a certain motorcycle repair workshop, who posted regularly on newsgroups dispensing excellent technical advice, and lost about £20k worth of bikes. It seemed that many of the people on the newsgroup knew about his kleptocratic nature, but didn't publish it. If you've got evidence and you think carefully about it and perhaps discuss it with the mods there should be no reason not to name and shame. I know it's a person's livelihood, but at the same time if they don't produce good work and behave with integrity, there's no reason to feel guilty about naming and shaming.
Here's Dave on bass in this photo. The shorter of the group on the left.
That's him - I don't think I've ever been more comfortable going into a bass shop as the bass centre with him managing it. It wasn't like like the other bass specialists not a million miles away where it's all (in my best Harry Enfield voice) "You don't wanna do it like that!!".
The Bass Place started off in Brum at the address on the t-shirt design, then moved nearer Musical Exchanges in the railway arches. Dave AKA Kink, ran it for a while then moved jobs to Exchanges where I worked with him. Haven't seen Dave in years. The Bass Place became The Bass Centre not long after, think it was acquired by them.
Was Dave quite a short guy? If so I remember he was a very nice chap he really looked after a customer - letting me take basses home, and try them for a few days - I was having problems choosing a bass, and he was fantastic, I think I took about three basses home before buying the two which I wanted. Very trusting which is quite rare in a music shop.

I bought several things from the states, which UPS managed to damage with a 100% success rate. My success rate for claiming from their insurance 0%.
