I assume you've got the sound coming through a more decent source than the TV's built in speakers?
I hadn't, but I've just put the TV through my Bose soundwave, and to be honest, its still too much keyboards and not much bass. Rio still sounds dreadful, but just a better quality dreadful.

Currently watching Duran Duran live at the Eden Project on the BBC red button service. The worst mix ever. Can't hear John Taylor very well at all, its all vocals and keyboards. Wait until the end when they do Rio. Jesus... What is it with the BBC and live bands? Later with Jools is another. Bass sat way back in the mix, no bottom end at all. I'm writing to Points of View. "Irate of the Isle of Wight..." 😉

***MODS - AS NO INTEREST, PLEASE REMOVE AD, FANX. ***Squier by Fender Vintage Modified 70's Precision bass. This started life as a bog standard VM P bass but I've made a lot of modifications to it over the past 3 years. Starting with the pick ups; I replaced the frankly rubbish original Duncan Designed split coil for a Tonerider - much punchier, higher output, Later, I added another Tonerider, this time a jazz bass pick up at the bridge. Routing done professionally and not a bodge job. Next is the custom wiring loom - a Basschat special made by Ki0gon; stack-knob configuration (Vol/Tone for each pick up), all solderless with orange drop capacitors for a truly vintage sound - very warm, even with both tone controls up full. The rubbish plastic nut has been replaced with a Graph-Tech graphite nut and all the chrome hardware (apart from the neck plate) has been replaced with black gear (Wilkinson machine heads, Northwest Guitars hi-mass bridge, jack socket, strap buttons, string retainer, metal knurled control knobs). I also have a Fender waterslide headstock decal to go with it, bought with the intention of applying it, but never got around to it. Selling because I fancy a change (again) but also because it's a little too vintage sounding and warm for my taste, and I fancy going back to a five string. Hopefully the sale of this will help fund something tasty. Looking for £280. Please bear in mind the modifications - the control knobs alone were £20. Can chuck in a gig bag too. Would prefer collection on this as couriers seem to be incapable of customer care right now; Isle of Wight based but willing to meet buyers at Portsmouth/Southsea/Southampton/Lymington. If you would like more photos, just shout. No trades.

I couldn't give a monkey's if they put Jools on the cover. I know who Dave Swift is, but I don't know who half the other players interviewed in this month's edition are, regardless of what bands they're in.
I wouldn't say I don't like the Red HOT Chilli Peppers. I should have said they're not relevant to me. I don't know enough about them to dislike them. I can't imagine to many guys your age where The Stones would be relevant. Blue
They're only relevant in that they've influenced some of the musicians from my "generation". But then I don't really listen to them either. Maybe the odd Black Crowes tune.
Not in my opinion and I'm a fan. Blue
As always, musical taste is subjective. I was going to post a profound argument in favour of the individual and their freedom of opinion and taste, bit ultimately, I can't be arsed. You don't like Red Hot Chili Peppers, I can't stand the Rolling Stones. CLICHÉ ALERT! "It would be a boring world if we all liked the same things."
Not a lot going right with that one, then..?
Great guys in that band, no problems personality-wise, I suppose a difference in standards is what killed it for me.

Pete Ray Biggin is Level 42's drummer and has lifted that band immeasurably. A total talent.

I did it to mine. Has made my bass more versatile so it's a win for me. Doesn't stop me from dialling out the j pickup if I still want the precision sound. Get it done properly though. 😊
Chris Helme works in Gear4Music now, he sold me a DOD Meatbox the other day.
What a shame. John Squire's loss is G4M's gain.

Revelation RBP65 or Vintage V4? Update - bought the Revelation
Grassie replied to miles'tone's topic in Bass Guitars
Those both look like decent basses, apart from - those bloody headstocks! What is wrong with bass manufacturers at the moment? Headstock design seems to be the last thing they think about. Those Sire Marcus Miller jobs would also be perfect if it wasn't for the dogs dinner on the end of the necks. -
A mate of mine mentioned The Seahorses the other day, so walking home today I put it on for the first time in absolute years. Most of the songs on there, frankly, are better than the new Roses tune.
-
I know what you mean - I'm fine with the riff and the vocals and simple lyrics, but it sounds like the rhythm section from a different band - not very Stone Roses at all
The biggest attraction of the Stone Roses for me was their sense of groove, which is totally missing from the new song.
-
If that's Reni playing drums on the new song I'll eat my chorus pedal.

I'm another that has never really been into the albums, but certain songs have blown me away. For me, the ultimate Prince track is "Sign 'o the Times". It's Prince in a nutshell - sparse, funky, great use of space and socially aware. The only Prince song you'll ever need.
Well drop C is such a drop in tuning that I would have to put heavier gauge strings on my stingray, whereas with a fiver I could tune it to CGCFA or something along those lines. Seems to be the same here then, people are recommending Spector basses and the Legend series, but nobody's played one of these neck thru's
You wouldn't need to re-tune a 5 string to get the low C as the bottom string is a low B.

The guitarist having no idea that the volume knob on his amp could actually be turned anticlockwise. Half-arsedness ("oh, that'll be ok, we can just busk it") which translates as "I can't be bothered to learn this song properly. The guitarist's predilection for Bon Jovi. Booking gigs without making sure everyone else is available for it.
Unless you live in a mansion, I think you might get away with it for maybe 3 years, but it would get harder
That's a risk I'm willing to take. 😁

I like it, it seems to have something that lacked from the last album. The piano is an interesting addition (for them anyway) and lifts the tune. I for one am glad they're not pretending to be in their mid twenties and rehashing BSSM. Nothing worse than old blokes (and let's not forget three of them are knocking on the door of 60) trying to be young and controversial. The one reason I can't even bear to look at Mick Jagger is that he really should stop pretending he's still 21. Looking forward to a RHCP album not "produced" by Rick Rubin too.
