1. We still don't know how much he flogged it for. 😶
2. I've just flogged the kids and the car and I'm off up town tomorrow to buy meself a 4003 and a Ric coffee mug. Deal with it Bronner.
3. I agree with the idea that different people want different things from a magazine - I have no interest in techniques or lessons, nor am I actually interested in gear reviews. The last few bits of kit I've bought I've done so through loads of web research, youtube vids and online reviews. I find one fairly generic essay by one person does not give me all the info I need. I would rather have more in-depth interviews with players and not these pathetic copy and paste, expanded "bassically speaking" pieces currently being passed off as interviews. It's like the players in question are given a questionnaire to fill in. Rubbish.
4. I put a Tonerider bridge J on my P bass (which also has a Tonerider P pickup) they are excellent. 😊
5. This issue is better than last months foe sure (apart from that editorial nonsense). Free CD too from Albert Rigoni, the Nathan East interview is good, much nicer thanks. This probably means next months will be all about the LBGS and we'll be back to a shocker...
6. They don't have a secret guitarist. That engineer is winding you up. I think they're excellent - they've done what most of us wish we could do, which is make the bass guitar the focal point of a major rock band. Good luck to them, looking forward to the Wembley show with the Foo Fighters.
7. NOW SOLD.
8. "Love" by Aztec Camera. It certainly sounds like it was made in 1987, but Roddy Frame recruited some of New York's finest to play on it - Dave Weckl, Will Lee, Marcus Miller... "Working In A Goldmine" is my fav tune on it.
9. Last chance before I remove it type bump.
10. This month's issue has just arrived and it's possibly the worst one yet. The annual LBGS "preview" issue, with 7 pages of stuff we ALREADY KNOW, like "profiles" of players appearing this year, and (snorrrre.....) pages of manufacturers profiles too. This is stuff BGM have been banging on about since they announced the first guest months ago, a complete waste of paper. They have included more interviews but these are just expanded versions of the dismal "Bassically Speaking" section (which in itself now runs to 5 pages) and it's all THE SAME; "I don't/do slap because...", "I don't/do play 5/6/7/8/10/12 strings because..." GAAAGGGGHHHHH!!! Oh, and here's a handy hint for BGM's gear review photographers - when you take a picture of a guitar can we have an image where we can actually see what it looks like (preferably from the top) instead of pointing your camera down the bass from the bridge end (see this month's Jackson Dave Ellefson Kelly Bird review...) Time for a new format guys, seriously. It's really dreadful this month.
11. Thursday bump
12. Tuesday evening bump. No-one fancy it?
13. Lazy Sunday afternoon bump.
14. Friday bump.
15. Great picture!! I nearly said yes cos of that, but no, sorry, the money is going toward a guitar...
16. Ibanez ATK310 4 string bass guitar in mint green with 3-piece maple neck, 22 fret rosewood fingerboard, 3 band active EQ (bass, middle, treble) and Ibanez's CAP Double Humbucker pickup, which offers three distinct sounds for all styles of playing. There are two humbucking coils inside one pickup, which can minimize noise by hum cancelling in each pickup position (neck, bridge and combined). Flip-top battery compartment and through-body stringing.Currently strung with stainless steel Picato strings (40-100), comes with a decent padded gig bag, all in excellent condition - no dings or scuffs. A great bass with loads of tone, this does a very good impression of a Stingray for a fraction of the cash. The reason I'm selling? Well, I've come to realise that active basses aren't for me, and all I need is my Precision bass. Based on the Isle of Wight so I can meet at one of the ferry terminals your end (Portsmouth/Lymington/Southampton), but buyer collects - poor courier services have put me off posting anything other than letters... £200 and she's yours. NOW SOLD
17. Fretless bass = 80's pop IMO. Pino (Paul Young), Mick Karn (Japan), John Giblin (Kate Bush), that fellow that played on that John Farnham song "You're The Voice"(?) Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel). Think of all those singers biggest hits and you'll hear fretless bass. I love it. Wish I'd stuck with mine.
18. Peter Gabriel never got the lead angel part in any of his nativity plays while he was at school, usually given the part of "Inn Keeper #1" or "Second Shepherd".
19. Just looked up Temperance Movement on YouTube - how much do this lot want to be The Black Crowes? BTW, NF stood in for Roger Glover in Deep Purple for a bit recently (last year I think).
20. Could it have been painted black over that finish cos it might have been stolen...?
21. Yes, absolutely, a bad drummer would make me quit my band. Nothing worse IMO than a timekeeper who can't keep time, can't play quietly when required and can't/won't learn their parts properly. Speaking from bitter experience I'm afraid - come the new year I'm done and moving on.
22.
I always liked Billy Sheehans answer to that question.
What did Billy say then?
23. As others have stated - get the best you can afford. The problem with a lot of 5er's is the indistinct B string which IME can be found on entry level 5's as well as higher end instruments. I used to own a '96 Fender USA deluxe Jazz V which was a lovely instrument, but man, that bloody B string may as well have been made from wool. I believe the general rule is the longer the scale the better tension (across all strings as well as the low B string).
24. I didn't have much of a problem making the transition from 4 to 5 strings, and played 5's exclusively for around 10 years before going back to a 4. Now seriously contemplating picking up a 5 again. Don't forget though, having a 5 isn't just about having those extra lower notes - it's also about being able to play lines with minimal hand movement by playing across the fretboard as opposed to up and down the fretboard (if that makes sense).
