1. Thanks chaps. There are no luthiers as such down here (I'm on the Isle of Wight) but there are a number of repairers/techs who should be able to do the routing for me - that's something I'm not going to attempt, not even on a VM Squier.
2. I have someone to do the routing for me, it's more a question of which parts to buy. I already have a pickup, just need to choose the pot and jack socket.
3. Hi all, I'm going to get a jazz pickup (bridge) installed on my P-bass and was just wondering if anyone had any advice/recommendations for a pot and (side-mount) jack socket with plate. I know nothing about these things, so feel free to fill my head with info... Fanx.
4. What happens to your basses once you've finished them? Are you making them for clients or do you keep them for yourself? You've said before that you're not a luthier by profession so I'm assuming you have a stash of these beautiful instruments at home....
5. Maybe his hearing is going, but I haven't seen a recent video clip where his Kingbass sounds good, the audio always makes it sound really thin. I do prefer his 80's sound, but I also love the sound of the Alembic on the Guaranteed Live video.
6. I've also had a VMJ, good bass for the money, but I found the pickups to be fairly wooly sounding (the DD's on my Squier VM P bass were worse - they're the first thing you should replace IME).
7. Not going. I'm a big fan, but the Sirens EP had about three good tunes on it, and I've seen them quite a bit since 2001, so no more "knackered old hits" for me thanks. It's a shame, because if MK put a bit more effort into coming up with new material I think I'd be more likely to buy a ticket. But he makes his living from touring and not record sales so I can hardly blame him for milking his back catalogue. Still my favourite bassist ever though.
8. I like the look of that, but that headstock looks like it could do with being trimmed down a bit.
9. I'd be really surprised if Metallica played Glastonbury. When asked if he would ever book the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Michael Eavis was quoted as saying that "heavy metal has no place at Glastonbury". If he thinks the Chili's are metal, Metallica have no chance.
10. Next year maybe? 20th anniversary of "...Morning Glory".
11. Have a "I Have The Same Bass But In Mint Green And It's Flipping Brilliant" bump.
12. Anyone know how to pronounce "Lykke Li"? Any help would be much appreciated. Fanx.
13. They're all pretty small down here on the Isle of Wight - The Old Comical in Sandown, The Railway in Ryde, the stage in The Anchor in Cowes has a staircase which starts at the back of it, we recently played a gig at Rookley Country Park where we were asked to play the main bar instead of the entertainment room. The stage was not deep enough to get the drumkit on so we stuck drummerboy on the end in the corner facing the "crowd" at a 45 degree angle. Can't think of any grotty venues - just the towns they're located in are grotty.
14. Guy Pratt played on some of his stuff too.
15. Thanks for all the advice people, much to take away from this. I'll try the stretches on Friday, new strap ordered soon. Fanx again. x
16. I try to stand properly most of the time, but I always sub-consciously end up with most of my weight on my right foot. Most gigs don't last for more than two and a half hours. Those Mono straps look good - might invest.
17. Hi all, I've started to get a pain right at the top of my back, in between my shoulder blades where my neck ends and my back starts if you like. No pain while I'm playing generally, but certainly when I get out of bed in the morning after a gig and for (usually) a couple or three days after. I play an Ibanez ATK and these weigh about 4.5kg but feels like more! I use a 3in strap (nylon weave) which is pretty comfy but ultimately is not preventing discomfort. Anyone else had similar experiences? Cheers.
18. New Ibanez ATK200 brown burst, tort guard. Lush.
19. Surely if the buyer was an oceanographer he'd be after a Galleon Krueger...
20.
John Deacon, Pat Badger, Cliff Williams and Phil Chen underrated?
Ok, so maybe not Mr Deacon (not amongst bassists anyway), but Pat Badger seems to elicit little recognition generally. His groove with a pick is unstoppable. Can I also add Phil Spalding? Fanx.
21. Oh, where to start! Gary Beers (INXS), Nick Seymour (Crowded House), Ben Kenney (Incubus), John Deacon (Queen), Dan Roberts (Crash Test Dummies), Jeremy Toback (Brad). Loads more. All tasteful players, but never play the obvious. +1 for Pat Badger - his tone on Saudades De Rock is monstrous (monsterous?) Whatever...
22.
we talking wifes or bikes?
23.

Nice ride but it's making my back ache just looking at it.
