2. I don't mind some of these widdly-widdly guys - EVH and Satch in particular, because they have TUNES. Vai tends to get a bit otherworldly for my taste, and as for Mr Malmsteen - I couldn't get past the frilly shirts and gut. Or the total lack of soul, the pomposity and the scalloped fingerboard. WTF is that all about? Knobend.
3. Come 4th January next year I'll have been playing for 20 years, and I've never broken a string. Not once.
4. Guy Pratt's "My Bass And Other Animals" is a must, but steer clear of John Taylor's one - hardly any insight at all apart from drugs and groupies.
5. One of their former drummers (Stu Fisher) lives near me. He runs a recording studio down here with a friend of mine.
6.
Try pointing the extension cab away from the window next time?
It was...
7. Saturday night at one of our usual venues, landlady's birthday so the place is packed out, good night had by all. Incidentally, new extension cab arrived Saturday morning so perfect timing to try it out. I'm set up by the window, bass sounds great, really clear and I can actually be heard over our two guitarists. End of the evening, the drummer's missus comes to pick him up and says "I've been sat in the car down the road and I can hear the pub's windows vibrating". That'll be me then... They might get some complaints.....
8. Chuck us an 'at over 'ere!
9. I've just noticed that if I touch the pole pieces on the pick up on my P bass, there is a very noticeable buzzing noise coming through the amp. A less noticeable buzzing occurs when I touch the bridge or the metal jack sleeve on my lead. I have recently replaced my pickups and my soldering isn't briliiant but everything is connected as it should be. Any ideas before I electrocute myself?
10. Status Kingbass Artist Mk1, four string, rosewood top, white LED's.
11. Rotosound swing bass sets - every pack I've bought have died after the first gig, Warwick yellow label nickel wounds - dead straight out of the pack (their red label stainless strings are marvellous by the way), flatwounds - not for me I'm afraid, tried them, couldn't get on with them, Elites stainless roundwounds - haven't bought any for years but always used to fade really quickly too. I once bought a set of Trace Elliott Mark King signature strings - beyond rubbish. It's Warwick Reds for me now, all the way.
12. I would sell my left nut for a KingBass. Your dad's one has the kind of wood I'd go for, but I'd have to have white LED's. That's a great photo, if you have a twitter account you should tweet it to MK himself, I reckon he'd be well impressed with that.
13. Hey guys, thanks for the info. I've sent the graphite one back and a replacement is imminent!
14. I've bought a new nut for my VM Squier P-bass - a Graphtech PT1204 slotted which is supposed to be a replacement for precision bass nuts. Having compared it to the old one however, they are noticeably different - the original is sloped toward the G slot, has a flat bottom edge and is thicker. Excuse the camera phone pic, old nut is the white one. There are so many variations available on the net that I'm finding it near impossible to find a exact replacement. It's obvious that I've wasted £9 on the new nut (unless there's someone on here that wants to buy it from me), but is there someone in BCland that makes nuts? I'm sure I've seen a thread on it... Please help!
15. I replaced the Duncan Designed ones in my VM Squier P-bass with Toneriders - much better now, they are good quality and have more punch. Recommended.
16. Crockford with his mahoosive cranium....
17. Hey Monster, thanks for the link but I contacted these guys to ensure I'd get a Mk1 as pictured on their site, and they told me that the Mk1's are discontinued and I would receive a Mk2. So on to GK themselves who told me that the "footprint" of the new cabs is the same as the old ones except for the interlocking corners. they very helpfully offered to send me replacement ones for my combo free of charge, so hats off to Gallien Krueger. I'm going to order my cab today.
18. Hey all, I have a Mk1 Gallien Krueger MB210 combo, and I'm ready to buy the MBE210 extension cab for it, but GK have discontinued the Mk1's in favour of the Mk2's. Will my combo stack OK on the new cab? The interlocking corner protectors don't look the same, and I can't find a Mk1 ANYWHERE! Aesthetically speaking i would prefer a Mk1 to match my combo, but I'm not going to buy a Mk2 if I can't sit the combo on it properly. Any ideas? Fanx.
19. I looked at various speaker configurations to go with my combo, nearly went with the 2x12 which is also 8ohms @ 400w, but decided to go for the 8ohm 400w 2x10 cab, ordered yesterday - early Christmas pressie to meself!
20. Thanks Balcro, much appreciated!
21. I have a GK MB210 combo and I want to get an extension cab for it but I'm not sure what sort of output I'll end up with from different combinations of my combo plus various ext cabs. My combo's output on it's own is 350w @ 8ohms and it says full power 580w on the back. Can someone tell me what sort of output I can expect from the following cabs if I pair them with my combo: 8ohm 200w cab 4ohm 600w cab 8ohm 400w cab Can I use an 8ohm cab with a combo already rated at 8ohms?
22. Kraftwerk - "The Man-Machine".
23. The dude is Level 42's drummer. He has brought a breath of much needed fresh air and a touch of youth to Mr King and co. One of my favourite drummers.
24. Our drummer has an electronic kit, he said the only thing he doesn't like about it is it looks so sparse, so he sticks his acoustic kick drum in front of the kick pad; looks quite nifty actually. Sound wise, well, I prefer an acoustic kit, but it's not up to me is it? Jon (our drummer) doesn't tell me which bass to use, and why would he? Besides, he is the Isle of Wight's answer to Rick Allen - he can trigger the snare with his foot pedal that would normally be used for the hi-hat, and if that makes his life easier then more power to him. Best drummer I've ever played with.
