1.
What killed it?
Dunno, it literally stopped working over night. I tried 3 different batteries and 2 different cables but nothing. It was fooooooked
2. I'm waiting on him to email me to say he's got some of the pots in and he said he'll send me one once he's got some in again which is nice of him
3. Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm not looking to change my amp so I'll get in contact with the string companies you've all mentioned and see what they say. Well, when I have some money I will haha
4.
Maplin - expensive try CPC: http://cpc.farnell.c...plug/dp/PL09635 For the price of the Maplin IEC C14 you can get a ready made C13-C14 cable from CPC.
Thanks very much for that dude, that page is in my favourites now
5. ...as diagnosed by mr Petr Michalik himself. Couldn't of come at a worse time either. I'm meant to be using the bass this pre amp is in to record next week, I have NO MONEY to replace the pre amp with and the strings on my other basses are all used to death. Cherry on top? I only restrung my bass with the tone pump in 2 weeks ago but the ultimate kicker of it all, it's the only bass I have that has 2x2 tuning pegs so I can't even take the strings off and use them on another bass. "You can wire the pick ups in in a passive mode just like a jazz bass so you bypass the pre amp" he also said. Not the point! I have the pre amp in there to make my bass sound good! If the pick ups sounded good without a pre amp, I wouldn't put the pre amp in there in the first place. I know I'm whinging here but honestly, this has really upset and annoyed me. I haven't had this pre amp very long. I must of only been using it for a total of about 6 months plus it wasn't cheap, think I paid about £50 for it. I bought it from someone on here and it was already wired up, all I had to do was attach my pick ups and output jack to it. It was working fine up until the last couple of weeks. Oh well, off to throw a tantrum and look at pre amps I can't afford. Stevie
6.
I have too much time on my hands http://www.dhgate.co...3592414a2a.html
That picture is of Geddy Lee's actual double neck That's a picture from his equipment list off that tour haha. 7. I'll agree with you there Luke! They're awesome pick ups. I have them fitted to all my P basses that I get/sell. cheers for the comment.
8. Bloody hell, 145? That's a heeeeeavy gauge. I'll probably just use 130, 110, 90, 70, 50 gauge from somewhere. That should be perfect for it. Either that or I'll get my usual Fender 7250M 45-105 gauge strings then buy a 130/135 low B string.
9.
Stevie is an honest upstanding pillar of the Basschat community. When he sticks a stamp on a parcel, it stays stuck; the parcel arrives promptly and is full of stuff as good or better than he described. Sombreros aloft!
...most epic piece of feedback I've EVER seen. Thanks very much Chris!
10. Sold my old rack case to Chris and he is such a sound guy to deal with. Messaged me about the case and paid 5 minutes later. Couldn't recommend him more highly. Cheers mate! Enjoy the case Stevie
11. Thanks for all the help guys. Sounds like I won't have any problems with it at all. With what Civictiger said:
& You'll deffo want a high string guage
I'm going to be using a 135 gauge B string (well, low G# string haha) so hopefully that won't be floppy and it'll sound really nice with the bass. I haven't actually got the bass yet as I can't afford it but it's going to be either a BC Rich Widow WMD 5 string or the BC Rich Paolo Gregoletto signature model (the newest one with the soapbars and thru-neck) Such a gorgeous pair of basses and I want one even more every time I see them. I've wanted a 5 string BC Rich ever since I really started loving Trivium again because the tone Paolo Gregoletto gets from his BC Rich Warlock 5 and Mockingbird 5 is just sexy! Here they both are: Widow 5 WMD Paolo Gregoletto Warlock 5 neck thru: Just check out his tone on this song, it's to die for! 12. I was just doing a bit of research in to the frequencies of different tunings so I could compare them against the frequency response/equaliser sliders on my amp but I may have come across a bit of an issue. I've started a new band with a couple of mates and in a moment of madness I said that when I get a 5 string, I want to tune it down to Drop G/Drop G sharp so the lowest string would be G1/G#1 (obviously, the "1" refers to the octave it's in) but here's where the issue starts. The lowest EQ slider on my Trace Elliot GP12 SMX pre amp is 30hz which is fine for when I play in normal Drop C # as the frequency of C#2 is 34.648hz but the frequency of a string tuned down to G1 and G#1 is... 24.499 and 25.956 respectively. Now, I've played a 5 string tuned to Drop A# before (which is technically only half a step down from standard B 5 string tuning) and the frequency for a string down in A#1 is 29.135hz which is just under the 30hz and the amp seemed to handle it fine without any crackling or breaking up but I don't know whether or not it would be pushing it to drive it down to just under 25hz or are the amps meant to handle a bit more either side of the EQ faders? Before anyone says it, I know Drop G is ridiculously low but it sounds so good. I saw Suicide Silence and a few other deathcore bands at a festival I went to, spoke to the bassist for one of them after and he said he played in Drop G so naturally, I want to see if my bass can handle it. 135 gauge low string for the win! Cheers Stevie
13.
I love the look of the white inlays, but I *really* like the neck on this bass and I would not get rid off it. But If I see another cheap enough VM Jazz I might be tempted to get it to do a swap... if that happens I'll get in touch
That's fair enough dude. Just to clear up a rumour, are the black blocks on your VM painted on or are they actual plastic blocks 'cos I've heard that Squier only painted the black blocks on instead of using real blocks
14. Woah FlatEric, that "tribute" bass is awesome! I wonder where you got the name Mr. Lee from I am so desperate for one of those but unfortunately i'll not be able to buy one for a very very long time. I would think about buying that one that Johnston posted but the necks are the wrong way round. Has to be bass on top like the original 4080/12 Although, only thing I don't like about the 4080/12 is the fact the guitar is 12 string, i'd want to use it as a 6 string guitar, not 12.I suppose it wouldn't be a problem just stringing 6 strings on there but it would look silly with the 12 machine heads. Expensive to re-string too *edit* I'm a big bag of special. I didn't realise they did it as a 4 string bass with a 6 string guitar. It was just called the 4080. THAT'LL DO FOR ME!
15. I want that so badly! I have wanted a Rickenbacker 4080/12 for ages but I'm never going to be able to afford one so that looks like a more sensible option. Someone give me the money for it?
16. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Squier-Jazz-Bass-Mahogany-Body-Black-Scratchplate-/250898105259?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3a6ab143ab#ht_500wt_1202 Only difference is that's a 3/4 scale bass, has p bass pick ups, no scratch plate, is made by Tanglewood and has 2 dials. Apart from that, totally the same as a Squier Jazz bass. Also, when has there been a jazz made from Mahogany? It's alright, he'll throw in the case for free. Super deal!
17. Hi guys I've just seen that Squier have done a 5 string version of the VM Jazz bass in natural but they haven't got a 5 string version of the VM Jazz '77 on there (in case you don't know, the '77 is the black one with the maple board, pearl blocks and white binding) which has saddened me deeply as I am after a 5 string and would love to get one of these but I would want it to match my 4 string VM Jazz '77 so if anyone knows if they will be releasing one, please let me know Stevie
18. I've got a Squier VM '77 jazz bass (which is the black version of the 3 VM jazz basses) and I totally agree with you about the pick ups. They are very polite and don't particularly produce the bright sound that I like and am used to. I'm going to be honest, I'm a huge Seymour Duncan fan and have their pick ups fitted in all my basses apart from my thunderbird (will be doing it at some point though) so I'm going to be going with the tried and tested Seymour Duncan SJB-3 quarter pounders or AJJ-1 Pro Active pick ups for my jazz when I've got the money. I will give you one bit of advise, get some copper shielding tape and shield the pickup/control cavities. I did this and it got rid of the small amount of humming the bass produces. Also, if you want to swap the neck off yours for a maple one with white binding and pearloid inlays, let me know. Mine's in perfect condition and only reason I want to swap it is because I want my jazz to look like the Geddy Lee bass Stevie
19. Thanks mate, I really appreciate it. Getting fired for not offering someone a bottle of Ribena wasn't fun either DAMN YOU SHELL!
20.
http://rosetti.co.uk...umbucker-Treble
Those are the pick ups in my Epiphone Thunderbird. If you want a really vintage rock n roll then go for them but if you want something extremely trebley then go for some other humbucker pick ups
