Hi guys My 1987 Fender Precision bass restoration project has been put on the serious back burner until I find myself a new job but in the mean time, I thought I might as well shift on some of the parts I got for it. First up is the pick ups. These are a brand new set of a Seymour Duncan SPB-1 "vintage for P-bass" pick ups. They are still in the box with all the foam, screws, wiring diagrams etc. I have NOT fit these to any bass so I don't think it's wrong of me to say that they are brand new. The only bad thing is one of the edges of the lid of the case they came in snapped off when I dropped the lid one time (I didn't drop the rest of the box, just the lid. It dropped onto the metal leg of a guitar stand and cracked off, the pick ups are absolutely fine). I have had these pick ups sitting on my shelf for the last 6 months with the case taped shut on them. I do love these pick ups but I am quite desperate for money at the moment so it seems logical to sell them then buy some more when I have a job. I paid £65 for them plus postage so I'm looking for no less than £50 plus shipping or I'll trade it for a new pre amp for my bass. Pre amps I'm looking for are as follows: Spector Tonepump (aka Michalik BP4) EMG BTS control EMG BQC control Seymour Duncan STC3p 3 band EQ system Seymour Duncan STC2p 2 band EQ system Aguilar OBP-1 Aguilar OBP-2TK (seperate bass and treble) Aguilar OBP-3SK (stacked bass/treble, seperate mid control) Obviously, I'll throw some cash your way if it's something worth alot more than the pick ups If you require pictures of them, I will happily send you some but it would basically be the same as looking at factory photos. These are the same ones as in the Steve Harris signature Fender precision bass which is why I bought them so as you can tell, great sounding pups! Cheers guys Stevie Drop me some messages!
bloody great pickups. there is a reason why steve harris uses them!
Steve Harris doesn't use them, he uses a custom wound SPB-1. The SD site only put that he uses them on their site because the original "Steve Harris signature model" was released with the SPB-3's and was nothing like Steve's actual bass. The newest signature model is a spot on reproduction of his main bass. The original one had a basswood body, red pickguard, lake placid blue body, black knobs and C shaped neck where as the new one has an alder body, chrome pickguard, royal blue metallic sparkle finish, chrome knobs and the neck has been custom shaped how Steve has his. I'm a Steve Harris geek so I know these things The spb-3's are great pickups though, I personally prefer the SPB-1's which I have fitted in my P-Basses (including the newer 2010 Steve Harris signature) but yeah, SPB-3's are fantastic so good choice! -
will you shut up about the quarters. It has me gassing for another P-bass just so I can go back to them again
QUARTER POUNDERS QUARTER POUNDERS QUARTER POUNDERS QUARTER POUNDERS QUARTER POUNDERS QUARTER POUNDERS! Sorry dude

Just as an update, it's stopped working for some reason. I've tried 2 blend pots and it didn't work at all but when I connected the pick ups directly to the pre amp it did so I'm going to be wiring it to have 2 volume controls instead of 1 volume and 1 blend. I don't understand why it won't work with a blend pot but that's how it is so i'll have to try another way but if this doesn't work then i'll be scrapping the pre amp and getting a new one from somewhere. List of different pre amps i'm thinking of are: Bartolini HR4.6 NTMB-918F 3-band Preamp/ Tone Control Module (Volume, blend, treble/bass stack, mids) Bartolini HR4.5 NTBT-918 2-band Preamp/ Tone Control Module (Volume, blend, treble, bass) EMG BTS system (Volume, blend, treble, bass) EMG BQC system (volume, blend, bass/treble stack, mids) Seymour Duncan STC3A 3 band EQ system (volume, blend, bass/treble stack, mids) Whichever pre amp I pick or whether I end up sticking with the one I have (I'd rather do that if I can) I'll be using Seymour Duncan ASB-BO5 pick ups with it so my treble is going to cut through niiiiicely!

I have the old version of the Tone pump which doesn't have the output trim so i always run my output volume at 60% so i'd suggest between 50 and 60% is the sweet spot. If you run it anything higher, it starts to distort and push a very high signal into your amp (Petr Michalik told me that when I emailed him, he was the one that suggest running it at around half way too. He'd know after all, he made the pre amp)

Cheers guys, sorry I didn't post a reply on here before, I do appreciate all your suggestions. I'll contact them in the morning about it. Hopefully they can sort one out for me. Also, the light in the VU meter on mine has gone but the VU meter does still work so is there any way of replacing the light or are there aftermarket vu meters out there that would fit the ashdown pedal? Again, thanks very much guys and i apologise for any offence caused by the original title
Just to recap.... You have 3 units that have "built-in" mains cords (i.e. the mains cables cannot be disconnected from the units) and you want to connect them to your power distributor/monitor ? If that's correct, then yes you can do this. What you need are these connectors - Maplin Euro Line Plug C14 Remove the 13 Amp plugs and replace them with the above C14 plugs. The C14 plug has Live, Neutral and Earth clearly marked inside the plug. The screw terminals can be a bit fiddly but patience pays off. The units themselves should be internally fused in any case. The fuse fitted to a 13Amp plug is really there as a last resort. The Samson unit will have overload protection also (there's a circuit breaker on the front of the unit that will trip in the event of an overload fault in the same way that a fuse would blow). Note that if you ever need to operate these units separately in future (i.e. without the Samson) you can just plug a standard IEC (kettle-type) lead, with a 13A socket on one end, directly into the C14 plug that you've fitted.
thank you so much for that Bod! That's exactly what I was hoping for. I'll get some of those ordered as soon as I get the Samson unit which should be next month. Again, thank you so much for that! You're a massive help

Hey guys My stupid idiot of a "friend" decided it would be a good idea to to try and turn the dial on my Ashdown overdrive pedal too far and guess what... HE BROKE IT! anyway, I unsoldered the pot and took it out but I don't know what sort of pot it is or where to get a replacement one. I've taken some pictures of it to identify it and the details written on it are as follows "Alpha B50K" and it also says "5N1" on it. Can someone help me find a new one? I quite like using this pedal. Here's the pics: HAAAAALP?

Well all of the units in question's power cables are fully attached to the unit (like, soldered to the inside of the unit) so it's not a case of just changing over the cable as they don't use kettle leads already. What I'm asking about is taking off the standard plug that's on it (the sort you plug into a wall or whatever) and replacing that with the male end IEC plug and whether or not it would work. By the sounds of it it would
