Hi guys, thanks for the recommendations of the pedals, but the problem with me is if i get one pedal, it'll lead to 2, to 3, to 4 and so on and i don't want to go using pedals as I prefer my rack setup. I may have got one sorted as long as i can get the money together (and a bigger rack case) but other recommendations are still welcome

My new amp! Trace Elliot GP12SMX racked with my Korg DTR2000 tuner and run through my Marshall JCM800 4x12 and 2x15 cabinets. Sounds absolutely fantastic! It's got a Mesa Boogie 12AX7 tube in the pre-amp which just sounds naughty when the bias is turned from solid state to all valve. Nom nom nom. Me like it! I had to turn the EQ balance to all treble when testing it in my garage as the 2x15 started moving things off the walls... yeah... quite bassy

Hey I'm after a new compressor to go with my rack gear but I only want it as a temporary one as I'm saving up to buy a DBX 160VU compressor (the old 70's one) Thing is, I do need it to have a noise gate built in to it and I need it to be around £100. This may be a bit of a big ask but yeah, I am getting quite desperate for one. I've had a Samson SCom Stereo Compressor/Gate which I sold on so I don't want another one of those. Actually, the noise gate isn't all that important but it would be nice if it had one built in. I'm currently only using a 4u rack case too so i'd prefer it to be 1u (as my head is 2u and my tuner is 1u) but if it's any bigger i'll just have to get the new case now. Cheers Stevie
If it is a Toby model,it can't be a pre Gibson. The previous owner may think it is because Mike Tobias still worked for them up until the end of '92. However, the Toby series were a Korean made line under Gibson ownership. For it to be Pre Gibson it needs to be US made with a serial number up to 1094. US Serial numbers up to 2044,were still made by Mike Tobias but under Gibson ownership.
I'm going to slap the original owner. 4 letters. Starts with CU and ends in NT. Guess what it is? Cheers for straightening out that little issue then. Still, best bass I've ever played. Contemplating buying another one to go with mine. wish I could find a reasonably priced one in Trans Red to go with mine. Considering trading one of my P basses for one actually... -
Sorry to be a dick, but Gibson bought Tobias in 1990,so it's not Pre Gibson.
Then i'm going to check the serial number out because I was told it was a pre-Gibson and I'm sure the seller said it was 1992... If the latter is correct, I'm going to go berserk! If it's definately pre-Gibson, I shall be much happier -

Cheers for the help guys Btw, mythe ste, my Tobias is a Pre Gibson 1992 Toby Pro 4, not one of the newer Tobias' so I don't know if the new ones have the same electronics as the older ones. Especially as mine only has 4 knobs and the newer ones have 5 -
Fun at The Bass Cellar
StevieD_FenderP2009 replied to doctor_of_the_bass's topic in General Discussion
I went into this "lovely" shop a few months ago with a nice stash of cash on me in the hope of walking out with a new Fender or pay half on a Rickenbacker (so you can probably guess my budget by now) but when I went in and asked if I could try the Rickenbacker with a view to buying it, I was met with a look like I'd just walked in covered in bloodk and asking if I could take the innocence of a 9 year old child! That's not where it ends... After they said no about that, I asked if I could try out the other bass I was looking at, a Fender Precision Standard and guess what... I WAS TOLD NO YET AGAIN! So after calling the guy a w***er and telling him I'd never go back there again, I walked out and went into Wunjos and had a good chat with the guy in there as well as trying out a 70's Fender P which did things to me that no woman could do! haha Morale of the story? I hope Bass Cellar goes bankrupt! Bass Chat should take it over and start selling there -
I've had my 1992 Tobias Toby Pro IV-B for 4 years now and it's without doubt the nicest bass I've ever played. It was my 18th birthday present from my parents and nothing can touch it for versatility and growl. Lowest action i've ever got from one of my basses too. It was the only piece of my gear I kept when I had big money problems but now she's off having the finish buffed up as there are alot of scratches on the back and a chip to the headstock. Sorry, I'll move on now. I've seen some newer Tobias basses in The Bass Cellar in Denmark Street but the guys in there are real arseholes. They wont let you try anything out unless you answer a whole bible of questions!

Blend control... What does it do?
StevieD_FenderP2009 replied to StevieD_FenderP2009's topic in Bass Guitars
No wonder it's always sounded like my bridge pick up is dying ¬¬ I shall start to use the blend control more often then! Thanks very much for the help guys -
Blend control... What does it do?
StevieD_FenderP2009 replied to StevieD_FenderP2009's topic in Bass Guitars
Ahhh okay then. On my Tobias, the "pan/blend" control has a center indent on it but i've always played it on fully open. Does this mean i've only been using the neck pick up all this time? When I roll it fully off, the tone is really thin, in the middle it's still quite thin but then fully open is a really nice high end and low end tone -

StevieD_FenderP2009 replied to StevieD_FenderP2009's topic in Bass Guitars
So if i have my pan control fully open, will it have both pickups running at full output? -
Hi Just been reading about a load of active pre-amp control boards/circuits and all of them seem to have a Blend control knob in them but what I don't understand is, what is a blend control and what does it do? I'm probably being so stupid here asking this... Cheers Stevie

Hi there, I sold this bridge to Paul and just like him, i'm totally dumbfounded as to why this won't fit. I myself had this bridge fitted to a Fender Precision Standard (not the American one) and i didn't have to do any modifications to either the body or the bridge. I would show a photo to prove this but I only have one photo of the bass hanging on the wall which doesn't show the bridge that well. Also, LawrenceH, I did fit a Badass II straight into the holes as that is what I replaced the bridge I sold to Paul with. it just dropped straight on again without any modifications to the bridge or body

StevieD_FenderP2009 replied to StevieD_FenderP2009's topic in Effects
Haha i was only joking around anyways man. Yeah i'll definately let you know how it goes. Don't expect a review for a couple of weeks though because the postal service is a joke! Hopefully i'll have the Equaliser and Aphex units to run through my new head (that i still need to pick up but cant due to the snow) and i'll let you know how it sounds -

Also, do you think he puts the graphic equaliser in the effects chain before the aphex unit or after it? -
