1. Hi there I've just taken out the pre amp and pick ups from my Tobias as I'm looking to put a set of EMG's in there and making it an 18v bass. Only reason for sale is that I played my friends spector and decided I wanted a tone pump JR pre and set of EMG pick ups in my bass. Plus, I'm slowly going to change all my basses pick ups to EMG. I took them out very carefully making sure to use gloves when I was handling it so I didn't get any grease or anything like that on the pre amp board components. This here is the complete set up ready to be dropped into any bass that you want to fit it into. It's powered by a single 9v battery and there is even a clip to hold the battery in place on the pre amp board with a ribbon to safely pull it out with. The only thing I will not be including that was originally on the bass is the jack input as I need that for my bass but if you require one, I'll send a standard jack socket with it. As for the pot set up, it has 3 indented pots for the Blend, Treble and Bass with just a normal pot for the Volume control. The grounding wire will also be connected to the board for you as well. As I said, you will literally be able to drop this set up into any bass. £50 is all I want for the pre-amp and the pick ups. I can't take a penny less on them because the money needs to go towards the replacement set. Everything works perfectly fine as well.
2. Turns out I need the CF4CBC set for it. They're hopefully going to make my bass growl! 10.44cm w 3.94cm d (please ignore the measurements, they're for my use)
3. I'm considering going for 1 pick up and a new pre-amp from Bartolini together with one of the original pick ups from the Tobias until I can afford the other one instead of going for both pick ups at once as I've seen the pre-amp I want for the same price as the pick ups... Gah, what to do Does any one have any experience with the above mentioned pick ups?
4. Haha, I would do if I could find one I did actually look for one first but can't find one, or a ruler, anywhere... BLOODY HOUSE!
5. Hey I'm upgrading the pick ups in my Tobias Toby Pro 4-B so I've been looking at Bartolini Pick Ups as they seem to be the way forward for it. According to the description, the 2 models I'm looking at have "Powerful lows, low mids and bright treble" which is perfect for me as I don't have much mids on my amp but I have bass and treble nearly full. So anyways, the 2 models in question are the CF4CBC -dual coil humbucker at £85 per pickup and the MK4CBC - dual coil humbucker at £85 per pickup Thing is, I don't know which one would fit the pick up cavity of my Tobias perfectly so would any of you guys know? According to Bartolini's site, this is the measurements of each pick up, maybe this is some help to someone CF4CBC: 1.550" x 4.110" MK3CBC: 1.35" x 4.25" Also, will I need a new pre-amp to go with these pickups or can I carry on using the Tobias pre-amp for now? Cheers! Stevie
6. Oh mate, i'm getting serious KAS right now... Must resist selling my dad's house...
7. Talon & Mr Foxen - Thanks very much guys. you were both a real pleasure to do business with and I hope to deal with you 2 again in the future Cheers!
8. I'm not going to lie, I never actually knew what "slab body" meant. I thought it had something to do with the cut of the body but after seeing this, I would love to try out one. Saying that, I do prefer my SH Signature P Bass as I love bodies to be contoured on the front and back to compensate for my *huh-hmm* "chef's stomach" shall we say haha! Really beautiful bass though, I agree with whoever said it needs a black pickguard
9. Top marks to you Truckstop. Just shows what an awesome community spirit this place has
10. Meeee please dude. Very interested
11. ChrisB - No hope in hell of me selling these cabinets. They work perfectly for the sound I want to achieve and they achieve the level of volume I need as well. The Celestion G12-65's provide a really warm bottom end with really clear highs which is perfect for the tone I want. The 2x15 bottom cabinet is mainly there for the extra bottom end boost but it also provides some highs too. Everyone else - I know which speakers they are from taking off the back panel of the cabinet and reading what it says on the speaker itself as I needed to replace one speaker which was blown when I bought the cab (the f***ing dipshit i bought it off decided it was a good idea to replace a slightly damaged G12-65 with some £30 heap of junk that blew straight away when he used it, he then never supplied me with the original speaker so i could get it re-coned) so yeah, I know the exact model of the speakers, the exact model of the cabinets and what ohm's the 4 12" speakers run at as it's stated on the speaker itself. "Impedance 15 ohm", not 16 like people keep trying to correct me on. I think i'll just risk it until I get the power amp i'm after anyways. Cheers for your help. thread finished!
12.
Someone I knew tried to make some oldish bits look even older by leaving them in coke overnight. Next morning when he took them out, the coke had cleaned them up like new!
LOL! What a fail! But I suppose it kinda did him a favour too... Hmmm
13. Mate, a set of RS66LE 50-110 will do the job for that perfectly. I used to play in Drop A# and they did the job for that perfectly so they'll handle Drop C easily. Best thing is, they can be tuned up to E without any problems too
14. Ok, I was wrong, it's not how I thought it was at all haha Well, I give up trying to understand impedance. Cheers for your diagrams though Jon! They do look very helpful. Right, so back to the question at hand, AM I GOING TO KILL MYSELF/MYAMP/MY CABS? haha Cheers Stevie
15. To be perfectly honest, for the time and effort that goes into making one, £20 isn't too bad. Especially if it's a switchcraft jack and it's all unused before. This would be perfect for someone looking to upgrade their bass but isn't very confident. The option of the screw terminals is a really f*cking good idea too. Pick up change would be so much simpler that way... Wish I'd of thought of that...
16. Yeah, I'm in agreeance with OBBM over this, I don't know how the cabinet can be 8ohm when the 4 speakers are 15ohms each. I know there's a website that says that the cabinet is 8ohm but I don't understand how it could be. From what I have kinda understood, 2 8ohm speakers make the impedance of a cabinet 4ohms, am I correct in thinking that? Ps, OBBM, I'm going to be contacting you soon over having some custom cables made And double ps, the speakers all say 15ohms each on the back of them http://www.wikizic.org/1-029-029919-Celest...G12-65-Rola.jpg
17. I can honestly say I'd recommend the Celestion G12-65 speaker. I have them loaded in my Marshall JCM 800 4x12 Bass series cab and they really do pack a really warm punch as well as delivering a crystal clear top end
18. Hi guys I've got (figure of speech, picking it up within the next week or 2) a Trace Elliot RAH250 SMX head with 2 speaker outputs on the back that are rated at 8 ohms each but at home I've got 1 Marshall JCM 800 Bass Series 4x12 fitted with 4 Celestion G12-65 15 ohm inpedance speakers as well as a Marshall JCM 800 Bass Series 2x15 fitted with 2 Celestion G15-200 speakers (Not sure on the impedance, they will either be 8 or 15 ohm) I'm just wondering if it will in any way damage my head or cabinets plugging one into each of the outputs on the head? If you guys could help it would be great. Cheers Stevie
19. Hi Nick, Cheers for answering my questions. Unfortunately it's not what i'm looking for I'm looking for an alder bodied P-Bass (I just prefer the tone from alder bodies) Good luck with the sale though, I really hope you can manage to sell it or that you can sort some other way of getting the money you need with out selling this beauty. Also, fair play Clarky, it does look like an absolute dream to play
20.
Well... I deffinitly think they are overrated... Not only do they charge to much for what they are... They are verry limited to what they can imo... I mean, they are great jazz/blues basses... No doubt! But that's all.... Imo you can't play metal with Fender's, and some hard rock isn't great either -.- That's personal opinion but still... While Washburn and Warwick... They make basses that are great for metal, rock and still able to play jazz/blues ! Fender's like Gibson... Fanboy madness... Great stuff... But way overpriced
Oh really? You can't play metal on a Fender you say? Ohreallynow? Ok, well how's about this handful of non-metal bass players Steve Harris - Iron Maiden (Fender Precision Basses) Geddy Lee - Rush (Fender Jazz and Precision Basses) Alex Webster - Cannibal Corpse (Fender Precision Basses) Markus Grosskopf - Helloween (Fender Jazz and Precision Basses) Sharlee D'Angelo - Arch Enemy (Fender Precision Basses) David Ellefson - Megadeth (Fender Jazz and Precision Basses) James LoMenzo - Black Label Society (Fender Jazz and Precision Basses) Robert Trujillo - Metallica (Fender Jazz and Precision Basses) Cliff Burton - ex Metallica (Fender Precision Basses) Geezer Butler - Black Sabbath (Fender Jazz and Precision Basses) Bob Daisley - Dio/Rainbow/Ozzy Osbourne (Fender Precision Basses) Glenn Hughes - ex Deep Purple (Fender Precision Basses) Roger Glover - Deep Purple (Fender Precision Basses) Colin Kimberley - Diamond Head (Fender Precision Basses) Now I'm sorry, but if you still want to say Fender basses aren't suitable for Rock/Metal then PM me and I'll carry on this discussion...
21. Thanks for the reply! I'll definately give them a shout and see what they can do
22. Hey there I'm giving my Tobias an over-haul at the moment and thought it would be a good idea to maybe replace the pickups. They sound good but they just lack that certain "something"... I like to get a really clean tone out of my basses and the EQ on my Trace Elliot is basically 7/10 bass, 4/10 mids and 9/10 for the treble section. As you can also see I'm a huge Steve Harris fan which is why I love the clanky bass sound. Does any one have any recommendations on what to replace my pickups with? The basic requirements for the pickups have to be that it has a nice and clear top end as well a really thick bottom end, not fussed about mids, the less the better imo haha. I've looked through EMG and Seymour Duncan but I have no experience with any different soapbar pickups so considering you guys are the experts, you can help me out Cheers Stevie
23. For one gig I ran my rig as follows Tobias Toby Pro 4 bass -> Wireless -> DI box out to the 2 splits Split 1: Ashdown distortion pedal -> Kirk Hammet Wah pedal - > Trace Elliot GP12 amp Split 2: sound desk -> my on stage monitors Reason for the split just after the bass was I really wanted just the pure bass tone coming through my monitor so I could make it out clearer but let the crowd have the Wah and Distortion. Sounded really good, I went for a walk mid-song (thanks to my wireless, and just in case you're wondering, the song was "For Whom The Bell Tolls" by Metallica) and I loved the tone the crowd were getting from my rig. Just personal preference to only have the pure bass tone in my monitors
24. I used a MarkBass LMIII through an Orange OBC410 and got a pretty nice tone out of it with my freshly strung custom P Bass but I've gotta agree with everyone who says that the MarkBass cabinets are muddy. I tried out their compact 4x10 cabinet (can't remember the exact model) and it really wasn't very nice at all. So yeah, try out the MarkBass heads with a different cabinet and maybe you'll get the tone you like
25. Right then, well thanks for your help guys, looks like I won't be going for the Marshall power amp then Would of looked f***ing cool with the Marshall cabs but seeing as Marshall won't make one that sounds good for clean bass tones then I'll have to skip it. C-Audio it is then!
