1. Well what would be the ideal valves to put in those to not have any unwanted overdrive? Also, I've got 2 cabinets (JCM800 bass 4x12 and bass 2x15 stack) which I plan on turning into 4 when they become available so there is reason behind getting a power amp
2. Hey guys I was looking into getting a power amp to go with my rig once it's finished (few months hopefully) and I've managed to find 2 that I would possibly buy. One of them being a C-Audio SR707 and the other being the Marshall EL34-50/50 or 100/100 My question is, would the Marshall one be suitable for a bass guitar rig? would it add any unwanted overdrive to the bass tone and would it get rid of any of the clarity of my bass tone? Oh, also, the obvious one, does it cut any of the low end out at all? If anyone could help me out then that would be great. Cheers Stevie
3. Very sorry to hear it nick. Hopefully everything works out for you. Got a question for you though, do you know what wood the body is made from? and also, how bad is the wearing on the neck? I can't properly tell from the pictures Cheers
4. How wide is the neck pocket on this pickguard mate?
5. MUST... RESIST... TAKING OUT LOAN... OR SELLING FENDER STEVE HARRIS... OR MY SELF... AAAHHHH I WANT THIS BASS!
6. You lot just aren't enthusiastic enough. This website is a complete waste of my TIM and a complete waste of Tim's TIM!
7. Since joining this website i've managed to Sell: Bc Rich Mockingbird Bass Precision Bass copy Ashdown 4x10 cabinet Trace Elliot GP12 head Ashdown ABM head Samson S Com Compressor Various bass pieces Buy: Trace Elliot head (not the same one as sold) Various bass pieces (alot of them even been sent for free, that shows the community spirit of this site) Ashdown cabinet (for a friend) Korg DTR2000 tuner I can honestly say this is one of the very few websites on the net that I would be sad about if it closed. Fantastic site, very informative and very friendly/helpful people on here. So Geofio, you are in fact wrong and very rude!
8. I agree with you Ray, this bass is just... UUURRRRRGH! I'm sure it sounds sweet and plays like a dream but what in the name of Eddie was Steve Harris doing commissioning this thing under his name?
9. Oh really? Well that's fair enough. I've heard before though that Ashdown are REALLY protective over their VU meters and will only sell them to you after you've passed a rigorous questionnaire which is why I think it'll probably be easier to just find replacements somewhere else Cheers for the reply though
10. Chrome Precision Bass pickguard - £60 Taken off P Bass again, was fitted to this bass only for a day as I decided to go for a black pickguard. This isn't a plastic one, this is chrome plated brass. Looking for £60 for it as I paid alot more. Only marks on it are where the nuts for the control knobs were (tehehe knobs and nuts... GROW UP STEVIE!) but this isn't visible when you put the nut back on and especially when you've got the bit on top. Also, it is 13 hole with holes for top and bottom thumb rest as well as pick up cover (No picture yet) Black bass bridge: Badass/201 styled... I dunno what you call it - £12 This is from my P Bass project. Only 4 months old and only seen one set of strings. In perfect condition too. priced exactly the same and both come with the screws to mount it to the body and allen key to adjust saddles. Will fit any 5 or 3 hole bass guitars and a great, cheap upgrade for Fender Precisions/Jazzes or what not. ! already sold! 4 chrome tele style flat topped knobs - [s]£10[/s] £8 These were bought to go on my Tobias bass as a replacement for the black ones on it but I decided against it after I was sent one odd one so in fact there are 3 matching ones and 1 misfit. All are for solid shaft or split shaft dials and have a flat head topped screw to tighten them into place. Only very light scratch on the top of each one, not visible unless closely inspected 4 black dome topped knobs - [s]£10[/s] £8 These are the knobs from my Tobias Toby Pro 4-B bass, I have taken them off of the bass as I have replaced the pots with solid shaft pots so these do not go on anymore. The knobs are in as close to perfect condition as can be and there are no paint chips off them. For split shaft pots. Excuse the stolen picture but I haven't got a picture of the ones of my Tobias yet, will do as soon as I can. As stated, there are 4 and they are exactly the same as the ones in this picture BC Rich top loading bridge - [s]£10[/s] £8 Chrome finish which has worn in one section. Everything is with it, I removed it from the old BC Rich Mockingbird Heritage 4 that I had. Not much to say about this, supplied with 4 screws too Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pound pickups - SOLD Fitted to and removed from my Precision Bass project as I'm currently pulling apart the bass but I thought I'd sell the pickups from it. One cover went missing so I had to make another for it out of the cover from a different P Bass pickup. Fits it perfectly but the pole holes are a little wider than the actual poles. Doesn't affect the tone or anything like that, they still sound exactly the same Gotoh open gear machine heads in smoked chrome finish - SOLD Again, these were fitted to the above mentioned P Bass project but taken off. They're in a smoked chrome finish with the vintage "elephant ear" top. No screws are supplied with these tuners BUT I am supplying 2 sets of bushings for them. I never ended up using the original set as they were to small for the holes in the headstock of my P Bass but I made a set up for going with them and painted them black (not the machine heads, the bushings I made). They will fit any standard P Bass headstock and most other basses with your choice of which bushings you use. Machine heads are in near perfect condition apart from one small ring around the pole of each one where the string wrapped round Wiring harness with black speed knobs - SOLD Just a basic wiring harness from a P Bass here. standard [s]250k pots[/s]* with an input jack all soldered together and 2 black speed knobs to go with it. Was taken out of the P Bass. *I MADE A MISTAKE, ON CLOSER INSPECTION THE POTS ARE INFACT 500K BUT I HAVE ONE 250K POT SPARE AND I WILL INCLUDE THAT WITH THE WIRING HARNESS FOR NO ADDED COST! Chrome Rickenbacker full tailpiece - SOLD You heard it folks, genuine Rickenbacker full tailpiece assembly. That includes the tailpiece, saddles, damper bar, all screws, springs and the strap buttons they use to hold the damper bar on. Was going to fit this to a crappy bass I have in my room to spruce it up but decided not to. Will also include a genuine chrome Rickenbacker neck pickup surround with this bridge. Can't say much fairer than that! (No picture yet) AND THAT'S ALL FOLKS! All prices do not include P+P! I will be adding a few more pictures when I can get them
11. Hey I've got an Ashdown Bass Drive Plus distortion pedal, great pedal, but it's broken in 2 ways... A: VU meter won't light up and sometimes doesn't give a reading. I've opened the pedal up and it's not loose or anything so I'm just going to replace the VU. Any recomendations on which one to use to replace it? I would like one that lights up as well. Preferably the original yellow or a blue colour. B: LF Drive knob is broken, a friend was a little to over-easy with it and ended up making it so that I could spin the knob round without it stopping so yeah, i need to know what sort of knob to replace it with. I need some help ASAP as I'll be using the distortion pedal with a wah-wah for an up-coming gig so yeah, please help Cheers Stevie
12. Sorry for the late update The drummer ended up ringing me the night before the first of the 4 gig run (Northampton - Halfiax - Bradford - Wakefield) to have a go at me then said "Can you make it down to a practise tonight?" (bare in mind this was 7pm he was ringing me) so I said no I couldn't. He then said he'd phone me back in 10 minutes... the call never came Next day I get a text saying "we've got a stand in" and that was it. Icing on the cake? It was their old bass player and they ended up using him for all 4 of the shows. By this point, I was absolutely fuming. I got an apology EVENTUALLY off the 2 guitarists but nothing from the drummer still. We've got a gig on the 16th in St Albans at the Horn which will make or break it. If I get spoken to or treated like sh*t at that one, I'm out. End of story. I would of just quit on the spot if i wasn't so crazy about playing gigs. I am looking for another band though so we shall see what happens
13. None! I sold my Trace Elliot head, regret it soooo much and now I have no amp. Thus the reason I'm selling half my possessions in order to raise a few quid for a new one haha Now, how's about I get that fiver for being so crap at life?
14. Didn't your mother ever tell you not to swear like that? Good god... haha! As i said before dude, the Vintage for Jazz pickups are absolutely perfect for that "Jaco" style tone if that's what you're after so yeah, it's definately worth checking them out. And if you don't like them, you could always sell them on here... NO WHERE ELSE!
15. Had problems on 3 different occassions. 1: Newly built bass (P Bass replica) I had just finished building the bass the day of the gig and had a quick play on it before I went off to the gig and it seemed fine. Got to the venue which was well over an hour away from my house and the neck had decided to bow backwards, thus deeming it unplayable. I wanted to use it as my main bass that evening as my other bass has 4 month old strings on it and I didn't want to rely on it as the main bass. Luckily, i decided to take that bass with me as well and ended up having to use it for the full set which was an hour long. Strings held up (just about) and it became my main gigging bass from then on (after a string change, and just so you know, it's my Tobias Toby Pro 4) 2: BC Rich Mockingbird Classic Heritage Series NT Bass pt1 Turned up to my gig, got sound checking out of the way and the bass was absolutely fine. Then 10 minutes before I was due to go on, I went and warmed up my fingers and tuned the bass. As I got to the G, I noticed it had dropped a whole note where as the other strings were still in nearly perfect tuning. So anyways, as i was tuning it, the gear flew off and had sheared the screw. This particular gig I decided not to take a back up bass so i had to have the G just sitting on the bass and play the set like that which was seriously annoying as I like to do alot of fills and octaves which I couldn't do from the G. My only other bass, the Tobias, was off being set up so that's the reason I didn't take a back up 3: BC Rich Mockingbird Classic Heritage Series NT Bass pt2 Yet again this bastard of a bass caused me problems. This time it decided to drain the battery (which was fresh from only a week before) mid way through a set. Not the best of timing as it died half way through the middle song but luckily I had the Tobias sitting there in the other tuning my band at the time played in so I had to quickly change over and play everything 2 frets higher as it was tuned to Drop C where as the song was in Drop D. That bass has since moved on (to about 4 different people on here) and I never want to see it again. And before anyone says anything, I was in no way to blame for the battery dying. I used to always leave the bass unplugged with all the dials turned to zero whilst I wasn't using it and it was a brand new Duracell battery in it. To sum up, backups are very good to have with you, but if you know your bass is solid (as most Precisions are) then just keep a spare set of strings, a pair of string cutters, set of small screw drivers and a tuner in your gig bag/case just in case you have a problem. I normally take just one bass to gigs now and it's either my Tobias (which has never let me down at a gig) or my custom P Bass (which has also not let me down yet) to gigs but keep a spare battery, screw driver, strings (if i can afford any haha) and tuner in my bag
16. TalkBass? You can't mention that here! But yeah, I'll go with what BassBod said, the SD Vintage Jazz pickups are a fantastic set of pickups. My mate fit them to his Fender J and it sounds so nice
17. I'm not sure about £1300, but I could offer you 1300p for it? No? Oh come on... it's a bloody good offer? (disclaimer, im not saying the bass is worth 1300p, i'm saying that's all I have haha)
18. Just wondering if you've thought any more about doing a trade between our 2 cases?
19. And here's his new display picture
