LaBella flats are incredible. I used a set a while back on my P-Bass and loved them Never use the Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris ones, they will break your neck with the high tension and they go dull very quickly which is terrible for a set of strings that cost £35

Oh god yeah, the Randy Rhoads and Dimebag models have just been completely taken out of context, but the reason I didn't mention them is the same reason I didn't mention Stevie Ray Vaughn's Fender Strat or Chuck Schuldiner's BC Rich Stealth, they're all deceased (RIP) and they've just had their names flogged for bad marketing purposes. With regards to the Tony Iommi SG, I couldn't honestly tell you if it was Gibson or not he was holding in the adverts, but as far as I'm aware, he's played Gibson SG guitars since the start of Black Sabbath apart from a few occasions where I've seen him playing leftie Fender Strats, but I know that he did a deal with Epiphone to release an Epiphone SG Tony Iommi model which was basically the same as his Gibson SG but different wood so it was a bit cheaper for starter to intermediate players to buy. I see you mentioned Mike Dirnt there as well. Well I know for a fact that he and Frankie Bello of Anthrax spoke to Squier about having a model released through Squier for starter bass players to buy but still get decent quality. There's a video on youtube where Frankie is actually talking about it. And lastly, you mentioned the Peavey Scorpio David Ellefson, well I just looked on the Peavey website at the specs of it and then watched a video on youtube of Megadeth's bass tech going through David's stuff and the model listed on the Peavey website is exactly the same as the model David uses live. You may have been thinking about the pickups in them which confused me to start with, but in his 4 string he uses Seymour Duncan SPB-3 and SJB-3 pickups but in his 5 string model he uses EMG P + J pickups which is the same on both the website and with what David uses live
-
Spec wise most are pretty close, for example all the stuff Fender do seem to be pretty spot on to what the artist actually plays (Steve Harris, Tony Franklin, Marcus Miller etc) or what the artist wants it to be (Dave Murray, John 5, Billy Corgan). Paolo even does the adverts for his "signature" model holding his own personal one instead of the one BC Rich are releasing. If they're going to release it with the specs that different, they should not list it at that price or call it the signature model as it's no where near the bass it's meant to be modelled on

Hey there Right, so I was looking around at 5 strings after being drawn back to listening to Trivium again, and after seeing a few of Paolo Gregoletto's bass lines, solos and his actual basses, I thought I'd have a look at his signature BC Rich Warlock signature 4 and 5 string basses. I was absolute disgusted with what I saw on the BC Rich website. After really studying Paolo's 5 string in his "Shogun Bass lines" video section on their album Shogun's bonus DVD, I saw that the bass he plays is as follows Warlock shape White with black binding Neck through construction Reverse stealth headstock Seymour Duncan active MM 5 pickups (Seymour Duncan active MM 4 pickups on his 4 string) Schaller closed gear tuners Leo Quan Badass V bridge (Badass II on his 4 string) 24 jumbo frets Mahogany body with maple neck Ebony fretboard Instead of releasing this as the spec of the signature bass, BC Rich decided to put it out with this as the spec Warlock shape White with black binding *Bolt-on neck* Reverse stealth headstock *BC Rich active humbucker 5 pickups* (BC Rich active humbucker 4 pickups on the signature 4) *BC Rich closed gear tuners* *BC Rich top loading 5 string bridge* (BC Rich top loading 4 string bridge on the signature 4) 24 jumbo frets *Basswood body with maple neck* Ebony fretboard Now to me, that is absolutely disgraceful, especially as they're selling this model for anything between £450 and £600 which is the same price as the new NT Warlock 5 string which looks like an absolutely amazing bass to play. I think BC Rich really do need to sort this out, it's disgusting what they've done with this model

Why has Ebay hidden the sellers location??
StevieD_FenderP2009 replied to Schnozzalee's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
'scuse the pun, but "Ebay Beta? More like Ebay Wurs!" It's alright, I've already got the gun to my head before any of you lot attempt it... -
Hey there Thanks very much for all the replies, especially to d00d on this one for going all out and finding the parts needed for it as well. I'm going to be really picky here and ask if you know what the sort of buttons are that you find on the front of most old Trace Elliots (especially Series 6 GP12's) where you used to press the button and it would activate the EQ or turn it off but it would not lock in when you pressed it as those are the sort I want for the channel switching. I think these are the ones http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2337 Cheers

Does anyone have any idea how to build a rack multi selector? I need to build one with 4 inputs for: Wireless 1 Wireless 2 Cable Mute Also, i want to be able to have a tiny led above each selector switch so i can tell which channel is in use. If anyone can help me i'll be so greatly appreciative! I would go and buy one of the Whirlwind ones but lets face it, £300 is quite expensive Cheers Stevie

I was just looking through the Lado bass guitar catalogue for the billionth time, getting stuck on one particular model and crying when seeing that my bank account will never have the required funds for it unless I win the lottery (incase you're wondering, it's the Lado Steve Harris Signature Unicorn 4 string) As you all know by now, I do have a bit of a thing for anything to do with Steve Harris and it just so happens that he has played/plays some of the most beautiful basses ever but I was wondering if any of you guys and gals on here have ever had any experience with a Lado bass before and would like to share any reviews or stories about what it was like? I found these pictures on the Lado forum of the bass being built for one very lucky customer. I swear to go one day I am going to save up the (mutters £3500 under his breath) to buy this bass as it just looks so nice to play

GREAT SUCCESS! No more buzzing and the treble end of the bass seems to have been boosted a bit since I disconnected the tone pot. I've left the tone pot in there (obviously no wires connected to it at all) just to keep the vintage look on the bass. I am still searching for somewhere to do me a black chrome pickguard and I also need to get 2 black barrell tele style knobs for it. Off to the wanted forum I think...

Some news on the wiring Epiphone: Fully wired and working perfectly. Now all I need to do is get some new tuning pegs (one snapped and another one just chewed all the teeth off) and then give it a set up ready for gigging. It actually sounds alright as well which was a massive suprise to me tbh. Encore pickups with some dead Fender strings on it (only the A and D string on the E and A tuners to test it) and it sounds quite punchy with alot of bottom end. Also, suprisingly, there isn't ANY humming what so ever now. I ran an earth wire from the side of the DPDT switch to the hot wire from the pickup and it's stopped all humming P Bass Custom: Removed the tone pot, cleaned it, re-wired it, put it back together and there's a slight buzzing issue which is beginning to annoy me. I plugged it into my Line 6 Toneport UX2 and brought up the input monitor on my laptop screen to see what came up. When the bass is on full volume without anything being touched on it, it reads -45dB (at -60dB it means there is no input at all) but when you put your hand on the strings, it reads -52dB and there is still the buzzing noise. I have it wired exactly how the Squier (dare I say it) Pete Wentz (oh I did say it...) P Bass wiring diagram shows (I remembered that his signature P only has the 1 volume control and no tone, and may I add, I hate Fall Out Boy...) but yeah, still the buzzing so is there any way to stop this or will I just have to live with it? Cheers

Hi guys thanks so much for the feedback and different responses. I may be just echoing what I said earlier but there really is alot of mixed responses on here about the caps, some people saying they're good and some people saying they're not needed. I think i'll definately go down the test and trial route and see if there's one that boosts my tone at all or makes any needed difference to my bass. Other thing is, with the epiphone that I mentioned in my first post, I've got no volume or tone pots but instead now just had a single DPDT switch between the hot wire of the pickup and the output jack. I also have the bridge ground wire running to the switch but the bass is still really noisy, makes alot of buzzing when the switch is turned to on (but obviously nothing when it's off) so does anyone know any way of getting rid of this buzzing and humming? Cheers guys!

I must be really stupid because alot of that made absolutely no sense to me The wiring kit I bought was the same wiring kit as used in Fender's current AM series and the Steve Harris sig series but I just didn't bother wiring in the cap and I think it was a 0.05 cap... now I don't know what that means but yeah, i didn't wire it in From what else I read here, it looks like capacitors aren't actually needed then?

Build Diary - RIM Marseer 6 Custom
StevieD_FenderP2009 replied to pantherairsoft's topic in Build Diaries
HURRY UP WITH IT! haha. I keep checking back to this build diary every day because I want to see the finished article I've gotta say this is one of the most stunning basses I have ever seen. How much is it costing you in all? -
Hey guys I have a Custom P Bass and an Epiphone Embassy Bass which I have wired both up without a capacitor in. After reading through a few things on here it seems that alot of people put down part of their tone to whichever capacitor is installed in the bass. So, which capacitor would you recommend to go with a Precision bass loaded with 250k Volume + Tone and Spunky Dunkys SPB-3's (going to be upgraded to SPB-1's to match the Steve Harris signature) but to give it a really clean and thumping high end? Oh, also, where does the capacitor have to be wired in to? Apologies for being so stupid Cheers guys Stevie
I couldn't get Logic 8 to install on my PM G4 single 1.25GHz because the supplied graphics card doesn't support some of the features that version requires. If you just want it to record audio, one of the older versions of Logic is just as good. I did all the recordings for SugarBox on a G4 400 using Logic 4 under OS9. I would recommend that you use a dedicated hard drive for your audio, and ideally either a fast SCSI one or SATA running from a PCI card.
Hey BigRedX You seem to come to my rescue quite alot haha! First the Trace wiring problem a few months ago and now this Anyways, thanks very much for the advise. I shall definately have to check one out, I just missed out on one on eBay for just over a tenner so I'm quite annoyed at that. Thing is, I've got copies of Snow Leopard OSX and Logic Pro 8 sitting around waiting to be used to I'm just looking for a mac to use with it now Might have to look at trying Logic 4 though if I end up with a PM G4 but I'm definately going to buy an external 1tb hard drive to store everything on as 80gb is no where near enough for what I'll want to do. Will the Line 6 Toneport UX2 work with these or will I need a completely different Audio Interface to go with it? Cheers Stevie
