1. I was booked to do an Odyssey gig at the Indigo2, supporting Sister Sledge so i thought... "As this is such a high profile gig, I'll take more than 1 axe, just in case I plug the Stingray in and nothing happens. I don't wanna look like a tool!" So I packed the Overwater too, just in case.... Comes to Mid afternoon soundcheck and I pull the Stingray out of the bag only to find the strings lying flat against the board. Tight, but dead flat against the frets. A quick check of the nut and bridge shows no problems but when I turned it over I saw a big split right through the neck about halfway along!!! Now I love my Overwater and it sounded great but I spent the whole gig gently mourning my EX Stingray.....
2. My take on it is that they are what they are.... Boutique instruments. If I wanted a Ferrari, I would pay £100K and not question if the steel was any better quality than my Fiesta. If I wanted a house in central London, I would pay £1M + and not wonder if the brick were made of Amazonian Virgin's spit..... If I wanted a Fodera AJ Presentation (which I do), I would pay £15K (which I cant)..... You pays your money and takes your choice.....

I must admit i haven't heard of him, nor do i know anything about the Jools Holland Orchestra (or fanned frets if im being really hoesnt). At first i thought it was Crez :-) Nice tone and playing though, im going to check him out on line.
According to his website, Dave's playing a Dingwall six string Prima Artist.... 6.
nice score - the black n gold were easy to find for a while but supply seems to have dried up. Bass Central had some that seemed difficult for them to shift for a while. I fancied the 5 string version for a while...
I had a 2006 LTD SR5 from Bass Central.... It was a gorgeous looking bass until a roadie at London's Idigo2 broke the neck!!
7.
Which may just be Bubinga 5 & me Anyway - here's the link to part 1 (parts 2-6 all linked from part 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nC7bzLib0GY Some good stuff in here if you have the time/patience to watch them
Youre not alone...... 8. With my SR5, i have the eq flat, VLE off and VPF about 1 o'clock......
9. Jimmy Nail's Ain't No Doubt has always been a guilty pleasure of mine.. Great line from Guy Pratt....
10. I can only add to the glowing praise for Markbass and Proel.... When I ordered my LMII and 104HF from GAK, i ordered the 4 Ohm cab. This was not a problem at the time but then GAK rang to say there were no 4 Ohm 104's in the country. I explained that I was off on tour in a few days and was a bit worried about having no gear and they put me on to Proel, who had one shipped direct from the factory, next day, for no extra cost!!
11.
You do realise that this is also a swingers venue and not just "lifestyle" naturists?
I went there on a school holiday when i was 14..... It was a PGL ...errr.... 'watersports' camp...!!!!
12.
anyways.... in terms of a compressor my vote goes for EBS multicomp, its perfic and i never turn it off
+1
13. When my MM5 broke, Musicguard sent a courier to pick it up and bring it back to them.. They looked at the snapped neck and called Musicman, who told them they don't sell replacement necks... Musicguard then rang me and said "They dont have your model anymore (2006 ltd black & gold) but they've got a black/rosewood Stingray 5 with the colour matched headstock. Do you want that one?" 36 hrs later, it was in my hands. Thankfully, it's the only claim I've had but I can't fault the process.
14. Musicguard...... Replaced my MM5 when an Indigo2 roadie snapped the neck. No fuss....
15. Whereabouts are you Walman? Nevada Music in Portsmouth usually have A half decent selection?
16. I Wish - Stevie Wonder
17. Did a gig with Roddy Radiation of The Specials once... We talked about the hayday of the band and he said he kept loads of press cuttings and the like, to show his kids. After a family evening of nostalgia one night, little Radiation junior said to him..... "Daddy..... If you were so famous, why are we so poor?" My inspiration, on a similar note, was Madness' Mark Bedford. I learned to play by playing along with all my madness albums!!
18. I'll keep it under my bed with the hen's teeth and the rocking-horse sh*t........
19. One day........
20. How about..... Musofinder
21. Check out a band called Mama's Gun..... Smoooooooth..
22. Great article.... Timing is so often down the list of skills that bass players feel they need. I use this one, from Adam Nitti, with my students.....
23.
I've used monster cables for years but when they die I'll be onto obbm I reckon
+1 I've had the same 21ft Monster cable for 10 years!! There has been much debate over whether the expensive cables sound any better than the more reasonably priced ones but considering I do 300+ gigs/sessions a year, the £/outing ratio and the reliability is pretty impressive!!
24. Moody ....... Pretty (?) in pink....
25.
+1 for Dave Bronze. Saw him with Clapton, great player with a natural unfussy style.
Top man and fellow Essex boy..... he gave me my first lessons and my first gig was depping for him in a jazz funk band when I was 13!!
