1. Hi all, Right, here's the setup.... In the back of my rack i have a 6-way strip which i usually plug into an extension reel which in turn is plugged into the wall via a plug-in RCD. This week at rehearsals, i've been getting shocks on my lips from the mic when my hands touch my strings. I made sure phantom power was switched off on the mixer and tried various things such as different mic leads or different channels but only got rid of the shocks when i removed my extension reel and plugged straight into the wall. I've checked the wiring of the reel and all looks fine. What am i missing here? Thanks in advance...
  2.
Are they back to the full original line up yet or is Dammers still being arsey?
Jerry always insisted he would never go back and even turned down £1 million to play at Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan's birthday party. The past year has seen the rest of the band in some very tense negotiations, fights, walk-outs and strops but the Bestival reunion was aweome and the tour will sell out in minutes. www.myspace.com/orangestreet
  3.
I heard that Stevie Wonder got given a cheese grater for his birthday ...he said it was the most violent book he has ever read. (gets my non PC fur coat)
My sister went to see Stevie Wonder at the O2 last month. She was explaining to her 10 yr old daughter that he's a legendary singer and pianist and he's actually blind. Her daughter, in all innocence, asked "is that why he's called Stevie Wonder, coz he wonders where he is?" Kids!!!
  4. I've heard nothing but good things about Lehle... http://www.lehle.com/frameset.php?country=...A_Link=products
  5. Just for info, I went to GAK a few months back to try the Warwick Hellborg rig that's on their website. The didn't have the rig and told me that they don't stock everything on the website but they can get hold of stuff if you want to try it. Might be worth checking they have the Overwaters before travelling.
  6. A little while back, I did a gig supporting a named act from the 80's and the management company rang me to ask if the bassist could use my amp as his was stuck in transit from the US? It was a friendly call and all seemed fine so I said ok. At soundcheck, the bands guitarist turned to the bassist and said "Wow man, your bass sounds awesome. What amp is that you're using?" "It's some kid's (i'm 38). what's it called.... Eden or something.... Never heard of them!!" He then went on to be generally rude and arrogant so I made a mental note to give him the f*ck off tablet if we ever met again. Luckily, I got the chance to about 6 months later and he had to run direct into the PA which REALLY made him happy!!!

  8.
I dont mean to be picky and I have already upset Burpster, BUT you guys keep coming up with cheaper alternatives to the ER's that are frankly crap. Look at the attenuation published on their website: CE Mark attenuation data (sorry cant get it to format properly. Freq. (Hz) 63 125 250 500 1k 2k 4k 8k Mean attenuation 13.9 16.1 19 22.7 25 32.2 41.1 36.9 Thats not exactly flat! Great if all you want to hear is bass mind!
Just for reference, the Er15 data is as follows.... Freq (Hz) 125 250 500 1K 2K 4K 8K Att (db) 17.5 17.6 18.0 16.3 17.3 15.8 20.8 This equates to an almost flat graph and a much more 'natural' sound.
  9.
It was a fair question.. I've seen one chap drop his on the floor of a toilet, wipe them on his trousers and put them back in. You wouldn't stick a dirty spoon in your mouth, so why stick filthy plugs in your ears?
You're right, I was just kidding... I always cleaned them before AND after use so when the itching started I even resorted to a brand new, fresh pair but it was still getting some irritation. It would come on pretty quick and I thought it might be some kind of reaction BUT it was only in one ear. I'd been using ER20's for over 2 years with no problems so i wonder if the makers changed the material in some way....?
  10.
Without sounding like your mum, are you cleaning them properly and regularly?
Is licking them not enough....?
  11.
wow, rave review. My hearing is f***ed, but I might have to investigate this and guilt trip The Bank of Mum and Dad into getting some made. I reckon it would cost thousands of pounds to get my hearing sorted anyway - I'm 23 and can hear about as well as a 70 year old sound man who's spent his career with his head in bass bins
Yeah, I really can't praise them enough! I ummmm'd and ahhhh'd about them for ages but the itching ER20's made the final decision for me. Had the moulds done at my local hospital audiology department and the finished plugs came through 4 weeks later.
  12. I've been using the ER20's (£13 from Specsavers) for a while now and never had any problems with them except they made the on-stage mix sound quite boomy. Recently I started to suffer a little itching in my ears when I was wearing them so i took the plunge and had some ER15's custom made. WOW, what a difference!!! They're sooo comfy and the sound reduction is so even across the whole range. Best £160 I've ever spent, no question.

    RIP Leftysteve

Very sad indeed. Always remember to tell those close to you just what they mean to you and always live each day as if it's your last. One day, you'll be right. Sympathies to all who knew Steve. Chris

  19. Elites strings - I can hear them deadening as I open the pack. Ampeg - I just don't get it. Wireless systems - Why...? Your amp is right behind you...! LED's on the fretboard - "if my mediocre playing can't hold your attention, maybe my fairy lights will? Basses once owned by 'stars' - Yeah, and it was so good they sold it...! Just a bit of fun :-)

  22.
I've just moved back to Southend after spending about 9 years in Norwich. As I grew up here I spent loads of time in PMT and bought a couple of basses, my first amp, and loads of strings in my time. The customer service used to be superb. I guess now that Honky Tonks music has closed they don't have any direct local competition. I won't be doing business with the Manager of that store again, I've dealt with the Sales Staff and they've been much better, but they don't seem to be authorised to sell cardboard boxes from their rubbish themselves Regarding the now closed Honky Tonks: Every knew that you only went in there to buy your first instrument if you knew nothing. After that you bought everything else from PMT
I grew up in God's golden acre and spent many an afternoon in Honky Tonk, browsing the racks. Monkey Business came along and blew them into the weeds though and they never recovered. IIRC, Monkey Business started in Romford, Essex and was connected in some way to the Trace Elliot organization, I think via a guy called Alan Morgan...? Having a shop in town that stocked Trace Elliot and Jaydee was a dream!!!

  25.
He invested £75k for 30% of their entire back catalogue and future earnings. The program gives them more publicity than most bands, they already have some album sales under their belt, Peter Jones knows a load of top guys at Sony - it's a no brainer?
Isn't that how 80's pretty boys 'Bros' got ripped off.....? 30% off the top, take out the recoup and tax and you're left with pretty much naff all!
