Coated string options and questions.
woodster replied to fretmeister's topic in Accessories and Misc
You know nothing of my drug intake, don’t presume! The elixir process kills the tone for me and I killed a set in 4 gigs so the longevity premise just isn’t true for me. You pay your money and take your choice. And that for me is XTs. -

They last longer and I prefer the tension and a slightly smoother feel. -

My tech threw my Elixirs in the bin and told me not to use them. Recommended D’addario XTs as the winding wire is coated before the string is wound, not after like Elixirs. He looks after Keith Richards’ guitars so I’m inclined to listen to him! I think the wrap is nickel but the coating is corrosion resistant so should protect you from it? -
Ear Protection for 11 year old at first gig

Just re-read the post about “kiddie style over the head ones….” Maybe not then!! My daughter had these when she was younger, she was very happy with them. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Edz-Kidz-Defenders-Protection-Children/dp/B09PZ9PFKB/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=ear+defenders+kids&qid=1685954606&sr=8-4 -
Just bought one too, I’ve been looking for something decent after my Mono strap tore through the strap holes in 3 gigs! The Lekato seems great so far, although I had to remove it for recording as it squeaks a LOT against the body of my Overwater. I’m assuming it’s because it’s new and all very tight, so that will probably go after a little use.

Bass Mods K6 - ON HOLD, DEPOSIT TAKEN - *SOLD*

I'm selling this incredible Bass Mods K6 because I just don't use it enough and I'd rather it went somewhere that might use it and love it as much as i do! A beautiful pastel blue with Kent Armstrong pickups, a 35" scale, through-body stringing and an 18V uprated John East J-Retro Deluxe preamp. This thing really sings and dual truss rods mean the neck is super stable! Just back from a service and set up from Joe White in Aldershot and strung with new D'addario XT strings, complete with documentation. Fitted with Diago Twistlock strap locks for extra security and I can throw in a hard case if you need one. I'm willing to ship at the buyers cost or can meet you somewhere between us to drop it off. One small mark on the back of the body and one by the jack socket (see photos). One of the battery compartment covers has lost a hinge but it doesn't affect the closure and is securely fastened. You know how good these instruments are and a new one will cost you around £1500 so pick up a real bargain!

How about You Can’t Stop The Beat from Hairsparay? Scales, modulations, syncopation, it has lots of layers!

I have 2 custom OWs, a J5 and a PJ5 and the both have the “Overwater Design” logo so it’s not that but the general look a quality of the build is very poor! Mine both have body-end truss rod adjusters too, FYI I’m calling fake....

Hey Will! I have my Bass Mods 6-er hanging on a K&S hanger from Amazon. It has 2 vertical fixings (handy for screwing into battens) and the arms can fold together or spread as required. My bass is also 56mm at the nut.

I have an Overwater PJ with a P-Retro in it and it’s an amazing preamp, I’m a big fan of John’s work! i understand your point about the rechargeable battery but it lasts ages and charges quickly too so I just keep it topped up between gigs.

This is one of the early, Italian-made cabs and is in perfect working order. Not to be confused with the more recent, Indonesian made models. There is some wear as I’ve had this for a while but that is reflected in the price. The jack sockets are beat up but the speakon works perfectly. This is a used cab but it has never let me down. It’s housed in a BCS custom front-off flight case which is great for moving the cab around and you can load up on top of the case for those one-trip load ins and outs. The case alone was in excess of £200. Due to the size and weight, this is collection only from the south coast between Southampton and Portsmouth.

Huge fan, seen him many times at venues such as the Jazz Cafe, Barbican and The Forum. Too pricey for me though, I’ll wait for the dvd! Plus..... Only £35 for Omat Hakim with Linley Marthe!!

I did a support slot for a female-fronted 80s band and offered my Eden rig to the promoter which the bassist took me up on. During soundcheck, their guitarist turns to the bass player and says “your sound is awesome, what are you using?” Bass player looks around and says “Eden or something, never heard of them?” On a side note, I’m blind in one eye so I tend to squint a little in that eye. Singer of said 80s band goes on to accuse me of winking at her! Some folk just aren’t very nice.

Petite daughter - best 3/4 bass guitar

Another +1 for the Squier vintage Jag. I have a teenage student who is on the small side and he gets on great with it! Looks cool too! -
There's a couple of videos on Fodera's YouTube talking about saddle height and truss rod measurements and adjustments.

https://distrokid.desk.com/customer/en/portal/topics/915627-saying-goodbye-/articles
Distrokid don't remove it when you stop paying. I used them for an album in January last year, the music is still there on Amazon and Spotify etc.
The only issue I found with Distrokid is if you stop paying the $20 per year, all your music is removed. I'm not sure if that is still the case? If so, I guess it's great for artists who have regular material to release.

I use Emubands and have always had a great service. Upfront fee, £25 for 1 track, £35 for EP and £50 for album, but 100% royalties. Worth looking at them... www.emubands.com

Mark Bedford - Madness... What strings did he use?
woodster replied to miles'tone's topic in General Discussion
I learned the bass by studying every bass line of every song Madness recorded, up to and including the acrimonious Keep on Moving album. There are many wonderful lines in their catalogue which inspired me from age 11 right through my formative years. I would say I owe Mark Bedford a huge debt. -
Ever met a famous musician…. but not realised at the time?
woodster replied to Kex's topic in General Discussion
Not me directly but I did a gig supporting Chris 'out of time' Farlowe. There was a film company there who were in the process of making a documentary about him and in the dressing room our clueless singer asked Chris what all the cameras were for. "They're making a documentary about me", Chris said. Our singer replied.... "Why? Who are you?"
