1. Definitely track it coz when it arrives at your local Parcel Force depot, they will send you a letter telling you it has arrived which will take another few days. Once the tracking says "at local depot" you can go and collect it. I have a parcel which was sent from California via USPS Priority Express on the 24th Oct. It cleared UK customs today so should be at my local depot tomorrow or friday.
2. Overwater J5 with East J Retro and Overwater PJ5 with P Retro
3.
I wish they'd air Live from Darryl's House in the UK, I've not seen a bad episode of that yet. Puts "Later" to shame ...............imho.
This^^^^
4. Just ordered a K6 on the strength of this post!
5. Search on eBay for 'fingerboard guard'. They make a metal plate with a slot that sits over your fret and protects the board whilst you clean in. Really useful.
6.
I loved Rockschool I got a lot of influences from the guest musician clips, Musician Channel from about '05 was better and more detailed with in depth lessons on all instruments including vocals (That latino looking girl who never wore a bra!) I leaned a lot from the drumming lessons. Pity it did not last. http://www.digitalsp...nches-soon.html
I think her name was Samira khan...? Also featured Jamie Humphries and the late Graham Fox
7. Icicles.... Bicycles.... Monacles.... Test.....ing......
8. I have a Tee that I bought following a guitard's "it's only a bass" comment. It says... "You would notice if I quit playing"
9. Another East fan here. Both Overwaters are loaded with East preamps and I have been to John's when the P Retro needed fixing. Great products and personal service. What's not to love?
10. Me! I've been hooked on this for a couple of weeks now. There's a great version of this tune with Chromeo too!!
11.
This? Do you really think so? Is the version you've heard more groovy? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3X6JgGXkBY
It's a bit of an extravagant version compared to the album track but the groove from 2:49 is kinda what I was thinking of....
12. Check out John Cleary and the absolute monster gentlemen. They have a killer track called More Hipper which grooves like a b*tch!!
13.
Pretty much any session work I have done has come from recommendations from people I know. Jam nights are a great source for meeting people and getting your name known, those people know other people and you want to be in a position where if someone is asking around for a bass player your name comes up in the mix. Once you can get in with a producer as his first call you'll find he talks to other guys and your name gets about quicker. The musicial prostitue comment is a great analogy and I have referred to myself as a musical whore for years meet people, don't be afraid to do unpaid work if you have a spare moment as for me those unpaid gigs/bands/sessions have often led to paid work with other people as well as give me a few interesting things to include on showreels/cv. When you get the call you need reliable gear that works as soon as you plug it in (although more and more often producers just have you use virtual gear in my experience....and dismay!) and a good variety of basses to be able to cover different tones ie jazz, precision, humbucker, soapbar Probably the biggest thing is being able to communicate effectively about parts. Its very very rare I get called in and presented with a fully scored bass part....usually its a sit down with the track and a chat about what the producer has in his head and being able to give him that.
Pretty much this...^^^ Word for word.
14.
I put mine at the end of my effects chain, purely to balance things out a bit when I have multiple pedals going at once.
^ This....
15. Another huge East fan here!!
16. Another BIG +1 for the Diago Powerstation.... Great bit of kit and the compatability chart on their website is really useful!! http://www.diago.co....patibility.html
17.
Call Ron at BCS, they're based in North Boarhunt near Portsmouth. Excellent cases and very reasonable rates indeed. You're after a 'top hat' case I think you'll find. BCS will build whatever you want.
+1 Ron and the BCS guys are awesome
18. I thought that too.... There are a lot of players out there using LMIIs (including me) who might be interested in switching to this BUT....... I use a 4ohm cab to get the full 500W so as interesting as this looks, it would be too underpowered for me unless there is a 4ohm bridged mode.
19.
I'm pretty sure Rush don't use stuff just cos they got if for free... They strike me as knowing exactly what they want in their rigs, if a power regulator wasn't doing something I sort of doubt it'd be there.
I think I read that the national grid in the US is way more unstable than the UK and therefore power conditioners are more popular, and necessary, over there than they are here.
20.
Major 6th = my bonny lies over the ocean
4th = london's burning 5th = Star Wars
21. Gruv Gear Club Bag.... Amazing piece of kit!
22. Another Southamptonian (is that a word?)
23. East P-Retro?
24. The usual arsenal is 2 5-string 35" Overwaters and they fit easily. One is a jazz and one is a wider-bodied P style so their size and shape are slightly different to each other.
