Flats and playing near the neck as suggested will get you half way there. Are your pickups alnico? If not, that's what you require to get you the other half. 😃

Before 2014 MIM quality control was a bit hit and miss. It may be a great bass, it may be a good bass, it may be a bad bass. You won't know without trying it.

Pretty sure they do top coats also, wrap it or put print onto the bass or guitar and add a few clear coats. Not rocket science, probably something a computer programmer could do!?! 🤣 Most cheap basses which have a sunburst finish have a photo print top and bottom layer with clear coat over it. So if it can be on cheap basses, sure it can be done cheaply.

Ask a car body shop, they often do wraps and will be fairly priced.

Did you lubricate the tuners? A tiny bit of vaseline is all that's needed. All cheap tuners don't come lubricated, so metal rubs on metal. Simple fix. 😀

This is why everyone should try before you buy. Nice choice. P.S I did come to this thread thinking it was about a chocolate bar, was pleasantly surprised it was about a nice bass. 😎
